My name is Zenia Davis, I'm currently transferring as a rising junior to UCLA with a major in English Literature and pursuing a minor in Film and Television studies. In the future, I want to be able to screenwrite and introduce realities that put minorities in a transparent spotlight and as well challenge modern society's perspective of these communities. As of now, my goal is to obtain as much cultural knowledge as I can, I'd loved to travel to do so as well, but I love using all my resources by reading, watching documentaries, talking about certain topics with peers, and taking classes. As a student, I've always been my biggest motivation to achieve new milestones and pushing myself in positions where I'm not super confident so I may always be in the face of new opportunities.

I've selected these songs as they describe a period of personal blossoming and overcoming new boundaries as a college student. My first two years of college were spent at a community college, which was a very unexpected choice and not where I wanted to be. "Frame" relates to this feeling of disappointment in myself, but then learning to embrace the resources this type of college offered me such as saving money and exploring general education courses that pushed me into deciding my career path. The song, "Massa," talks about this new development of a person, which I believe accomplished these new personal boundaries while in college as I came to embody who I truly am and how that attaches to my major. Learning opened me to these discussions where I was able to challenge my perspective and expand knowledge. I ultimately went from holding myself in to being able to explore and speak out.
The song "Baby Girl" was selected to highlight hitting a wall of exhaustion which was influenced by a demanding routine of constant energy so that I may have a part-time job and be a full-time student. This songs makes a point of reflecting on all the reasons why I choose to be in college and how I need to be the strength to my own self. Furthering into the list of songs, I developed this feeling of independence where I was able to bare strength, make good connections with professors, myself, and peers, and radiate this new part of myself that's able to prevail. So far my college experience has allowed me to become this transparent individual who is obtaining important historical social history, especially black history, which I plan to embed within my creative writing and hopeful as a screenwriter in the future.
