I strive to give back to the community, through the arts. My motives are targeted at the upcoming generations. Last year, in March I began searching for ways I could help my community, and yes, I am a scholar, but dancing has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I have been dancing at Price Performing Arts Center since sixth grade, but I have been dancing since the age of three, and I wanted to give back to my community, by sharing the joy of dance with young people. At my studio, I began filling in for teachers when they were absent and taking over classes like beginner jazz, hip hop, or tap. When my director called me one morning and asked me to instruct a baby tap class, I jumped at the chance to help her, and my community, and give back in a form a style I know well. Even though it was only supposed to be until she found a permanent teacher, I ended up teaching all year and even created a dance for the end-of-year recital in June. This year I am teaching beginner hip hop, and I have the chance to work with a different age group, which I appreciate more, because I have more of an impact, and they understand the arts more than the age group I had last year which were ages 2-5. Overall, I just want to show them the joy of dancing, show them how it can be a release of different emotions, and how you can use the arts to your advantage, influencing the upcoming generation of artists.
One of my main goals in life is to receive an education and utilize that education to benefit my community through my chosen field of pharmacy. Becoming a pharmacist is a lengthy process, but medicine is crucial within our society, whether it is medicine for the common cold, Tylenol for headaches, or developing a crucial vaccination that we needed to survive and get back to normal after the covid-19 pandemic. Receiving this scholarship will allow me to pursue my goals of gaining a fantastic education, while not having to focus on the expensive financial payments of an institution, and to gain skills I want to utilize to benefit the greater good. I would be able to focus strictly on my academic success, which is the main reason for attending college. Being able to focus on my schoolwork will allow me to get better grades, and turn in better quality assignments, which also goes along with my goal of not only attending my dream college but graduating with honors I do not believe that would be possible if I am constantly focused on the how I am going to school and shifting focus from the why. I also want to be able to release some financial commitments from my parents, considering that I have two younger siblings that are dependent on my parents. Having to pay college tuition, amongst other fees will be a large financial burden.
