I am a psychotherapist student, who believes mental health is one of the key factors to full restoration. Addiction and substance abuse is caused mostly by loneliness and being unable to cope with one's problem and situations. Recovery for this population means, finding community and support that they can cope with and arise with. Providing suboxone or therapy itself won't lead them to the pathway to independent living. As I am finishing up my degree, I am preparing a business to create a psychotherapy system that will give them a pathway to finding financial freedom and a permanent community. I will not just stand still in my office hoping the client comes in for help, to make changes, I will rise and go out to the world to help those who are in need.

I came to United States at the age of 8, due to a domestic violence from my father. With no money in the pocket, my mother, brother and I came here to America, seeking refuge to our mother’s side of the family. Everyone was poor and no one had money, but we had place to live. At age of 17, I started working full time from waitering to every kind of job I can work in. Our family was financially poor and mentally broken. My mother faced with anxiety and depression with multiple physical health issues. My brother dropped out of school and was showing signs of conduct disorder. All the weight of the family fell onto my shoulders. In 2012, DACA was announced by President Obama, opening doors for me to attend college. By 2013, I was full time student and full time worker, I was constantly burned out, but I knew I had no space to give up. I would attend church on Friday evening and Sunday to build relationship and seek refuge in God. My whole family needed a psychotherapist’s professional help, but we couldn’t afford it. To change the system, I decided to pursue mental health field on my own to become a psychotherapist and make a system to create affordable therapy. I am currently preparing a online mental health business that is affordable for immigrants and low incomes plus, providing pathway for financial growth during the program. I am finishing my graduate program this December, so during the period of studying, I’m preparing myself to start up the business. As of right now, I lack low in fund with student debt and needing to support the family, but with constant persistence, I may be slower in growth compare to others, but I will succeed and help those in need better than anyone. Those who have gotten out of the pit, knows how to help people get out of those pits. I will revolutionize the mental health care system, it may take 10 years or more with little funds I have, but with hard work, I will achieve anything.

My inspirational song would be High Hopes by Panic! At the Disco. I grew up with a low-income background with very limited resources. I was an immigrant growing up with a single parent who barely spoke English. At the age of 17, I started working full-time to support my mother in her financial needs. I was a full-time worker and a full-time student for the past 10 years. I am now a 27-year-old graduate student pursuing to become a psychotherapist and an entrepreneur. For me, the hardship and the excitement of changing my life inspire me. I want to be an inspiring story for many people, showing anyone can achieve anything if they put their hearts to it. I wish to be financially enriched, not to travel or buy expensive stuff, but I love the idea of financially being smart and growing my value. I watched and grew up in a family of no financial background, so it was exciting learning everything from the beginning. I look forward to the day when I can say, "anyone can be whatever they want to be if you put your heart and effort to it".

I love that I came from a broken family of a single mother, who suffered from PTSD, anxiety, and depression, who made me dream of working as a psychotherapist. I love that my brother was a rebel who showed me what was the wrong thing to do by doing only the wrong thing. I love that I came from a low-income family, so I learned the importance of working hard and dreaming bigger. Many will see my life and call it a curse, I would call my life lucky, as it built character into me that no one can teach me in my life.

I am defined by many of the unwanted statuses in the United States, I am marked as Asian, undocumented, and low-income. I lived with ADHD when I was young and my mother struggled in raising me as a single mother with two children. I watched my mother struggle with me and my brother as she worked full time, trying to take care of two boys. She fell into depression and anxiety as she worked countless hours, being unable to take care of herself. Through my mother and my past, I came to be interested in the field of psychology, I wanted to analyze behaviors like Sherlock Holmes and helping people in coping with their mental health issues. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology with two years of experience full-time working as an ABA/Behavioral therapist. It was one of the most emotional jobs I have acquired in my life, I wanted to quit so many times watching no changes in my clients. In my 3rd month as an ABA therapist, I had two families thanking me for their children's improvement. I remember low-functioning children who refused to talk and fell into tantrums every time they were requested to do the next activity. This same child was able to say, "clean up" and do a hand motion for all done before moving to the next activity, instead of a tantrum. That was the moment that encouraged me to stick with the program and had me passionately working for the field for two years. At the end of two years, I was offered education for the BCBA master's degree program, but I felt limited in my practice, so I looked into the program called Marriage and Family Therapy. I started attending Hope International University for their MFT master's degree program. My goal was to study and learn the whole field of mental health and have bigger ideas on how to tackle this matter. I am currently in my last semester of the program. Our family financial issues never got better, so I have been working full-time as well as being a full-time student. I'm also saving little money to open an online program that provides a financial pathway for people who are in need of mental health care but do not have enough money. I have a long financial way to go to reach my dream, but with every opportunity such as this, I will be risen to make a bigger impact on this world. I believe in what I do and I believe in what I have prepared, I hope you can find the same passion in my words.

In my life, two books have changed my perspective in life, I had very few to few adult figures in my life whom I could learn the world from, so these books became my flesh and bone. The first book is called, "Rich dad poor dad", which taught me about the financial system of the world. I came from a low-income family with very poor spending habits. The book taught me to dream and invest in my life, I am pursuing to become a psychotherapist, but I am also a realtor and soon-to-be online business start-up for psychotherapists. Finance is hard to learn, but that book gives a good perspective on what I have never been taught. The next book is the Bible, I had no significant adults in my life whom I can rely on and talk deeply about my feelings. Bible provided a pathway for me to learn about love, that life is not all about winning, but it's about loving others and receiving love through God. My heart is genuine and empathetic because of what I have learned from the Bible and I learned to cope with my emotions through God, which gave me the pathway to succeed.

The most helpful financial advice I received in my life is, "don't seek for instant gratification". It is so hard to beat the temptation to use the money when the world is becoming materialistic world. We are constantly shown different products and new technology that gets us to open our wallet without thinking. My goal is to save and invest that money for the future and with the money that comes from that investment can now be used to buy my wants. Making money with money before spending money with time I sacrificed. I need patience and need to learn to close my ears and eyes from the world that tells us having no constant gratification is losing. It may take work to get there, but eventually with right mindset, I will be there.

Anxiety and instability of mental health can be caused by food. For example, drinking Monster energy drink can cause anxiety and flight or fight mode in your body to constantly build tension in your body. I grew up in a poor low-income family with a single mother as an immigrant from South Korea. We lived very poorly with many days going hungry, trying to survive in this country. At the age of 16, I found an under-the-table paying job at a church and started working part-time, while going to school. At the age of 18, I started working full-time trying to support my mother and brother as a person with the highest degree. At the age of 20, President Obama released a program called, Dream Act and DACA, which opened the door for me to enter a profession and work legally in a professional setting. I worked full-time and was a college student full-time since then. At the age of 27, I am a full-time graduate student, who is working full time, owning a side hustle job, and trying to build an online company. I work 16 hours a day, somedays not having time to go eat. I grew up hungry for success and lived a life that always pushed me to the edge for me to climb back up with my own strength. I take every opportunity seriously and this opportunity will give me a chance to get back up stronger.

During my high school year, I met an English teacher who was very unique in his teaching style, he gave a few homework, but always taught me to show actions matter more than words. I was a very quiet child with low self-esteem and had little confidence in my verbal ability. During class, we would always do activities that involved in speaking out our minds about the subject. I was an immigrant, so reading materials were a little difficult sometimes when it came to Romeo and Juliet and etc. I understood the story wrong many times, but the teacher always responded with, "hmm I like what you found in the story, but let me tell you how I understood the story to see where we can discover new aspects of the story". He knew my English wasn't up to the standard, but because of his effort to go over the reading materials, I wasn't ashamed to share my thoughts. Near the end of the year, we watched a movie called, "Dead Poet's Society", a movie about student's being able to freely explore the world and speaking out their mind. After the movie, he said, "show me what actions you are willing to take to stand for what you believe". A week after, our finals came and as the teacher was handing out the final, he stated, "what have you learned in this class?". We went around in class explaining our thoughts, but he stopped us and said, show me in action what you believe. We as class all got on top of the table like the movie and spoke out our belief and that was the real final. The confidence to speak out our mind and breaking out of the norms when the pressure is present. It did not change me at that moment, but that sparked a belief in myself, that my voice mattered and I can be so much more than what the world has to offer. I can be whatever I want if I can just stand up to what I truly believe. I never knew I could go to college or pursue any career, but that little moment in my life has gave me enough confident to get me to master's degree and a career in Real Estate.

I came from a broken family with a single mother who struggled alone to raise her two sons. I watched my mother struggle, but she really tried her best to keep both of us happy. I saw my brother slowly turning away and becoming a rebel in society as he dropped out of high school and went to become a drunk. At a young age, I was able to tell my mother was suffering from depression and guilt as she has worn herself out, but was feeling guilty of my brother's outcome. I had a different outcome thankfully to my brother, watching him do all the wrong things made me do only the right things in life. I met God in 2008 and some good people at church who took care of me and had taken care of my mental health as older brother and sisters. In 2012, when I was 18 years old, I joined the church leadership to serve the kids who were coming to church. I wanted to be there for them like how the church was there for me when I was suffering alone as a young child. It changed my life as I joyfully was able to see good changes in kids' life and them finding joy at church. As of 2021, I am in a master's degree program for psychotherapist training to help families with mental health care needs. I am also preparing an online program for low-income and immigrants for affordable mental health care and providing a financial pathway on the way. Generosity can be defined a simple act of giving up your spot on a bus or a train, but in my life, the true generosity can be given when you reach your peak of your life. I believe I need to work hard and earn a lot to give back to the society. We can claim that giving our kindness and time could help others, but in realty, many who are suffering are suffering due to lack of funds. They may not have money to go see a doctor, therapist or other treatment. They may not have money to pay bills, rent or food, these can be helped with generosity from someone who has worked hard. Generosity is a concept of giving, to do so, I need to give myself time to grow.

I read this book daily to remind myself of all the struggles my clients are going through and through that I gain empathy and passion for my work. This book will stick with me for the rest of my life, so I became the closest friend.

I admire B.F Skinner, who developed many psychotherapy foundations, especially on his experiment with conditioning. Conditioning is an idea that we can adapt to behavior through punishment or reinforcements. It has been applied without us recognizing our entire life and we live as if that is the norm. Upon recognition of conditioning, I found myself realizing what has been programed into me and change the way I act and view the world.

I am a graduate student learning to become a psychotherapist, I noticed America has a broken mental health care system, the cost of mental health care is unfathomed. In America, insurance covers about $20~40 for each psychotherapy session while the cost average about $120. Average people will need to break their bank to fix their mental health. From my experience and learning, finance has a strong correlation to mental health, so it does not make sense that we are making a system that causes people to break one to fix one. Currently, I am preparing for a business that will provide affordable mental health care from professionals with a 24/7 coping skills program. At the end of their program, they will not be asked to leave but invited back to make more money than they have spent. Like college, they invested in their mental health, so we are going to use their knowledge to help them build a career.

This would be only possible with growing power of internet.

I have many things at work and every help I receive will pave the way for our society and I truly believe in my work.

My program will pave the way for financial freedom by providing a pathway to make more money than they spend on therapy. My program will provide a 24/7 coping system and will be available for anyone who joins. The problem with current mental health care is that low-income families who struggle through finance will fall victim to a mental health issue but we charge them with ridiculous amounts that will create an endless loop of financial issues and mental health issues. My business will pave the way for financial and mental health freedom. I will not send people out after their therapy sessions are done, I will invite them back to our program, so they can now make money and use the skill they learned from psychotherapists to help others, who were in their shoes.

As of undocumented Asian in the United States, 2020 to 2021 was the saddest and most heartbreaking time of my life. Watching the Asian hate from the president himself and attack immigrants, my heart broke as I was watching Asian Americans being treated like they were an outcast. I have taken a stand by discussing and doing presentations at my school during COVID times, trying to discuss Asian-American society in America. I was always told that we weren't victims of anything and Asian's were not facing any kind of racism. It was heartbreaking, but I knew my answer couldn't be hate against hate, so I proceeded with love, in hopes of positive Asian image.

I lost my father when I was 8 years old, he was drunk, who would use violence against his own family every night after he got drunk. My mother, brother and I was the victim of domestic violence and we had to survive his violence years before finally deciding to run away to America in 2002. I grew up watching my mother suffer from depression and anxiety, she stayed strong in a country that was not kind to her, calling her names with racism, but my mother stayed strong because she had two children she loved more than anything. My brother suffered from depression and anxiety as well, causing him to go drunk and heavy smoker at a young age, being diagnosed with conduct disorder (defiance disorder). Even when I was young, I was able to recognize everything that was going on and I had to play the pure child part of the family, bringing energy and joy even through my own fears and sadness. At the age of 18, president Obama released a program called Dream Act and DACA, which provided a pathway for immigrants like me to go to college. I was a full-time worker since 17 years old working under the table, but this provided me a way for a better future. I started attending college at 20 years old, I was a full-time student and worker, as I had to provide for my family. I was tired and restless, but I had a dream of becoming a psychotherapist, to help people like my family in need of mental health care. At age of 21, my father called me saying, he was gonna kill himself but wanted to apologize before he committed any actions. My heart was broken and I was mentally breaking, but I knew my mother and brother needed me. I stayed strong, nothing was going to bring me down from where I was. My father's unknown survivability, but I will remember him as a man who placed such passion in my heart to work hard. If he hadn't been violent and done what he has done, I wouldn't have worked so hard in my life. As of the age of 27, I got my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and I am currently in a master's program, studying to be a psychotherapist. I am still financially broken, but I am not going to let anything stop me from achieving my dream. On the side, I am preparing for mental health care business that will be affordable, achievable to everyone, and will pave way for financial guidance to all the members. I knew just becoming a psychotherapist wasn't enough for me to change this world. I had to step up and develop a system that will make sense to everyone who is in need of therapy. My program will provide psychotherapy and financial assistance to everyone joining, so no immigrant or low-income families are discouraged from getting the mental health care they need. This opportunity will change my pathway and create a route for my future business as well. I am a one-man fighting to change the world, but with every help, we will change the world together.

I am a master's degree program student studying to start a business in the mental health field. The problem with all the programs in the mental health field is that financial pressure in getting the treatment is causing an endless anxious look for the clients. Insurance only covers about $20-40 per session and the average psychotherapy session cost around $80 to 180. The biggest victim of mental health issues is the low-income and many of them suffer depression and anxiety from financial deprivation and we charge them an overwhelming amount of money to be treated. Once the client learns to cope with their emotions, we kick them out back to the street with their wallet empty and expect them to be better, but in reality. It creates an endless loop of financial depression that will create them to come back. My business will solve that issue by providing a financial pathway to make more money back than the money they spent in the program. My program will only charge $65 to 70 dollars and will give the client opportunity to make more money than their regular job and will provide flexibility, so they can work anytime they want. People with depression have phases where they will feel paralyzed and powerless, so if we put them in a 9 to 5 job, they will perform less and have deeper depression. I will be fixing that problem by providing side hustle that requires no experience, but their own therapy experience. My program will also provide 24/7 coping programs that they can access as part of the program fee, they will not be charged extra, so at midnight if they are feeling an overwhelming amount of emotions, they have a place to find refugees. The program is still in need of more funding, but the business model, legal documents, and programs are ready to go. Opportunities like this will provide me funds to advertise and spread the world of changing mental health field as I bring a new style of mental health treatment into the world.
