My life goal is to be the best orthopedic surgeon in all of Utah, I’ll do anything to get to that goal, I’m passionate about medicine, helping people, and humanity in general. I would describe myself as a confident and kind person but direct and a leader when I need to be.

Hailey Julia "Jesus Changed my Life" Scholarship
My name is Yair Ortega De La Rosa and I'm a practicing Roman Catholic. When quarantine happened, I was with this girl, she and I would drink, have sex, sleep together and do the things that our lord and savior would disagree with, but during quarantine, we broke up because we would be toxic to each other, at that time, we had a dog and things that we had made together (not children).
After we broke off, I felt like I lost everything, I lost my girlfriend, my dog, my family (because instead of being with my family, I would be with my girlfriend), my friends, and most importantly, I felt like I lost God. I felt lonely in the world, and I felt like I would be lost forever but instead of going down of spiral of self-loathing and hate, I decided to put my full trust in God and Jesus Christ. I put my whole faith in him because I knew that he would always love me no matter what.
I started going back to church, and it was the best decision of my life, everything got better in my life, my relationship with my family has been really good and my friends and I have started talking more and more. I even got a position as an ambassador (by random chance) at the Granite Technical Institute, and most importantly of all, I met this wonderful, Christian girl who, even with all my sins and warts, loves me to the fullest extent, no one has ever loved me like her.
I thank God for this blessing and I have surrendered my life to him, I wear the cross every day and I don't plan on taking it off anytime soon.
"Your Success" Youssef Scholarship
It started when I was 13 years old, I was going down a slope rapidly and I ended up falling from my scooter, breaking my left arm in two places, with the ulnar bone sticking out. The healing process was long, and depression quickly set in. I felt like I couldn't do anything because of my left arm and even worse, I had a big, ugly scar to remind me of that day.
Later on, I had an appointment to check on my arm and see if it was healing right, I was still very depressed about my arm until I looked over at my doctor and saw his arm, to my amazement, he had the same scar like me. I asked him about his scar and he said that when he was young, he got into an accident and broke his left arm in two places and that they had to do surgery to fix it, leaving a big, ugly scar.
That inspired me, that even though he had the same thing happen to me, he ended up being successful and that made me pursue medicine, to help other Yair’s with the same thing or even worse. I want to be an Orthopedic Surgeon, to help the ones broken and fix them up and hopefully inspire more to be like me or better, that even though they are broken, they can persevere through anything.
I’ve been studying medicine since the age of 14, I’ve taken every class possible to gain as much knowledge as I can, I've taken intro to health, medical terminology, EMR, medical anatomy and physiology, sports medicine, advanced health science (med term, Med A&P, sports Med and advanced health are all concurrent enrollment) and lastly, I'm certifying as an EMT, so I can help people as soon as possible, you can say that I might be a little obsessed with medicine.
I’ve met great people because of medicine, like my teachers Mrs. Morrow, and Mrs. Riel, they have greatly inspired me to become a better medical professional and showed me compassion when I had none at home, and to that I am eternally grateful.
My name is Yair Ortega De La Rosa, Medicine is my passion, along with the need to help humanity, I will persevere through Medical school and go through all of that to become the best goddamn orthopedic surgeon in all of Utah.
