Hello,
I am an upcoming second semester Junior at The Fashion Institute of Technology. My major is Direct and Interactive Marketing with an emphasis in Digital E-commerce.
I have a wide range of hobbies which include spotting new fashion trends, Animal rescuing, extracurriculars, cooking, baking, and watching historical movies.
I am originally from Greensboro, NC born to a single mother with two younger siblings. What makes me the perfect candidate is my drive and resiliency. Since the 10th grade, I worked full-time, took AP courses up until graduation, participated in Extracurriculars where I was the Vice President in DECA. College was no different, I worked over 40 hours a week to help out with my family, I participated in Collegiate DECA as well as the Black Retail Action Group. My passions include Fashion and Digital Marketing and with the scholarship money I plan to use the money to further my education which means paying loans, buying groceries and paying my bills ahead of time.

As far as my professional goals, being a Database Marketing major with hopes of becoming a data analyst, I would also like to infuse the housing sector with more accessibility and equality. Every day, as a realtor I use data analyzing tactics to determine a location based on things such as income, family structure, and zip codes. From my gatherings on a day-to-day basis, POC tends to have more of a harder time when it comes to housing because of things such as gentrification, people wanting to unspokenly preserve certain areas for certain demographics, and people ignoring to lease to people with vouchers and government aid. Because of this I have a passion for equality and would want to one day own a brokerage to ensure these things are being implemented properly in my community as well as ensure that the conditions being offered to lower-income people are livable and create governmental programs with things in the area such as after school care, education centers, and programs for kids at risk.
The challenge I have overcome as a student was the inability to believe in myself. Growing up I didn't have anyone around me who was college educated as I am a first-generation student. My mother was a single mother who was a Medical Assistant, and my dad never finished high school and was incarcerated for the majority of my childhood. I did not realize how crucial it was to pursue your education until I saw how it was a ticket to the world for most. Once realizing that education was crucial at a young age, I started to join extracurricular activities, emphasize how important it was to pursue education and to take it seriously, and obtain a dean's list throughout my career as a student. Making the dean's list and staying focused has landed me at the #1 ranked fashion school in the world, although I feel I am doing well, I still feel I can and will do more. From all of this, I have learned that it doesn't matter where you come from, if you stay focused you will obtain success.
I have given back to my community as a realtor and soon-to-be data analyst by helping educate others through housing laws, housing rights, and information on important factors such as credit and budgeting. For a mass majority of my community, a lot of us aren't as knowledgeable on subjects surrounding finances, A lot of us didn't learn these things from our families as well as it wasn't being taught in schools. Although I feel I should be doing more to help my community progress in mobility with housing, rights, and income, I feel I am doing my best with the minimal resources that I have.
This has inspired me to make a difference in our world because I feel education is the token to the majority of our problems worldwide, the issue is the lack of resources and inequality being different age groups and wealth gaps. I would love for my people to be put into a light where we can shine and show the world our abilities, but I would also want everything to be ethical and equal.
With the money I plan to pay my bills ahead of time so that I can have more time to do the things that are important to me. I will pay my student loans as graduating with no debt is my main priority currently. With the amount that I have left, I plan on creating an investment account to help fund my passions and dreams.

I am passionate about data analytics because I love merging the idea of STEM and psychology. I feel data analytics is such a wide field that you can also learn from people, consumer behavior, and how demographics correlate. Also, working in real estate has helped me gain a stronger passion for both data analysis and equality. I conduct data daily as a realtor, and what I have gained from my calculations Is those certain demographics get better care and housing equality than others. Often realtors tend to "avoid" and "ghost" people who need housing assistance and as unfair as it is, I'm sure something can be done with defeating inequality in housing and gaining equality for everyone.

The main reason that I can't be as involved as I would like is that I work two jobs and go to school full-time. Although my schedule is jammed packed with working as a Real Estate Agent and a Cocktail Server, I still do my best to be involved in school. From volunteering to being a former Vice President of DECA, to now being a collegiate member while also representing my community in hopes to create equality in the retail sector with the Black Retail Action Group, I somehow make it all work.

Receiving this scholarship will help me tremendously because I could pay my rent, put some money towards my student loans, and buy things that I would need for school. I could also take some time off of work to focus more on school and my extracurricular activities. Considering I am an out-of-state self-sufficient student working two jobs as a server as well as a realtor, I feel this money will give me some lead on putting money to the side and establishing more of a "cushion" and not necessarily living check to check. I am also entering my senior year, meaning that I will need to intern to gain more experience and increase my chances of receiving a job. This money will allow me to take on an unpaid internship as well as a lower-paid one considering landing a paid internship is super competitive.

I am originally from Danville, Virginia where I was born to teenage parents Tia Reed and Jamaal Price. Growing up in North Carolina, I was pretty much always considered “ low income” although I've never felt as if I wanted anything. Although I come from a low-income household, education was heavily emphasized by my mother. We didn’t have everything, but one thing that I knew could take me places was my education. From getting accepted to the #1 ranked fashion school in the world, making the dean's list pretty much throughout college, and holding positions in extracurriculars such as the black retail action group where I hope to increase equality for African Americans in the retail industry as well as participating in DECA where I perform marketing tactics to improve business cases. On top of that, I also work a full-time job and a part-time job, hard work is something that I was bred for. My degree is in “Direct and Interactive Marketing” where I study with an emphasis on Database Marketing/ Data Science is something that I would love to pursue long term to help out my community and low come POC around me.
Along with my dream of working in data analyzing, I also work as a cocktail server as well as Real Estate Salesperson to get by in school. During my time as a realtor, I have learned that a huge demographic of African Americans is being discriminated against due to vouchers, or in other terms, section 8 housing. Tons of realtors don't even respond to people in need of housing due to income and the voucher situation. With the scholarship money, I plan to put half of the money in my savings investment accounts to start my brokerage to increase fair housing and awareness for oppressed groups with ethical and quality living standards. With the other half, I plan to pay up my rent/ tuition. I currently work two jobs so this money will put me ahead by months as well as give me more leisure time to take up more extracurricular activities and more time to study and shadow to achieve a broker's license to implement the start of my brokerage. Not only do I plan to regulate fair housing, but I would also love to create programs to help educate African Americans on real estate, credit, and assets as I was not taught these things growing up. Overall, the goal is to transfer wealth and create generational wealth for my community.

My name is Xavier Price. I am a junior at The Fashion Institute Of Technology majoring in Direct and Interactive Marketing where I hope to work in Trend Forecasting and diversify the fashion corporate ladder. I am a member of the Black Retail Action Group at FIT where I am running for Vice President to help create voices for African- Americans in the retail industry. I am also an alumni of DECA in high school which has led to furthering my chapter in collegiate DECA. My experience in DECA has been an overall success, I had the opportunity to score statewide at the 2020 DECA convention. My other extracurricular activities outside of school include working as a Cocktail Server in Midtown NYC as well as working as a Real Estate Agent where I have hopes to own a brokerage which will lead me to diversify and educate other African Americans on debt which prohibits them from purchasing homes considering we have the most college debt compared to other demographics. The top three major accomplishments that mean the most to me is moving to New York City on my own at the age of 20 from North Carolina where me and my family have minimal. I took the risk to better myself as well as the lives of my family so that my mom, grandma, and younger siblings wouldn’t have to endure hardships. When moving to New York City I promised myself that generational curses will end with me. Being born to two teenage parents in low income housing where my mother never finished college and my father never received his high school diploma/ GED. it was hard not having someone who could take my hand and inform me on how Important education is because it is my one-way ticket to the world and I wish it was emphasized more growing up. Another accomplishment that meant a lot to me is that I was able to attend FIT which is ranked number one in the world for Fashion. In my family and my hometown, this is unheard of as I am first generation to be receiving a bachelor's degree as well as attending the highest-ranked fashion school in the world. I feel this is super personal to me because I am doing this to not only better my life, but to be a role model to children who come from economic and societal hardships as I did because at the end of the day, with determination anything is possible. Lastly, being featured in VOGUE was another accomplishment because I was able to do this all on my own in less than a year of living in New York City with the help of nobody. I came here with a purpose and I’m not leaving without fulfilling my promises to myself and family. With the scholarship money, I plan on paying off my loans which will allow me to catch up and avoid debt starting off my adult life. I want to be able to invest freely and wouldn’t want loans holding my family back which would lessen the load and put us years ahead. I will also pay my bills in advance because living in NYC is expensive and I am 20 years old working jobs full time as well as attending college full time with 20 credit hours along with my involvement with other extracurricular activites. Overall, I want to educate, improve, and create a new foundation with no generational curses for the youth in my community.
