My dream as a 3 year old was to become the best drummer in the world. Since then an immense passion for music developed and my dream has become more realistic which was to become a world class musician. This newfound dream has started becoming a reality as I recently got accepted to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. I was born and raised in Gqeberha South Africa, so pursuing my application and acceptance at Berklee has been a very bold decision knowing that it won't be an easy pursuit. I would say that the thing that separates me from other candidates is my determination despite the odds that were given to me. I aspire to go against the odds for as long as I can breath.

Chang Heaton Scholarship for Music Excellence
WinnerThroughout my life, I have discovered an unwavering passion for music and the arts. From my earliest memories, I was captivated by the harmonies that filled the air, drawing me into a realm where emotions were painted with melodies and rhythms. It was in those moments that the significance of a career in the arts took hold of my heart and forever imprinted upon my soul.
For me, having a career in the arts goes beyond a mere profession; it is a way of life. The arts provide a unique avenue for self-expression and creativity. They grant me the opportunity to communicate and share my emotions, thoughts, and experiences with the world. Through music, I can convey the deepest recesses of my soul, bridging gaps and forging connections with people from all walks of life. It is a universal language that transcends boundaries and speaks directly to the heart.
Moreover, a career in the arts offers a platform to inspire and uplift others. I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of music in the lives of individuals. It has the ability to heal wounds, evoke emotions, and ignite the flames of hope in the darkest of times. Just as music has touched my own life, I aspire to create an impact on others, to be a conduit of joy, hope, and healing through my artistic endeavors. It is a calling to share the beauty and power of music with as many people as possible, leaving a positive imprint on their hearts.
A career in the arts also represents a lifelong journey of growth and exploration. It is an ever-evolving pursuit, where creativity knows no bounds. Embracing a career in the arts means constantly challenging myself to push the boundaries of my own abilities, to delve into uncharted territories, and to embrace new techniques and styles. It is an endeavor that demands dedication, discipline, and a perpetual hunger for knowledge and improvement.
Lastly, I recognize the profound responsibility that comes with a career in the arts—to contribute to the broader artistic community and nurture the talents of future generations. I am committed to sharing my knowledge, experiences, and insights with aspiring artists, guiding and inspiring them on their own creative journeys. By fostering a supportive and collaborative environment, we can collectively elevate the arts to new heights, leaving a lasting legacy that extends far beyond our individual contributions.
In conclusion, a career in the arts is not only important to me; it is my life's purpose. It is a means of self-expression, a way to inspire and uplift others, and a path of continuous growth and exploration. Through my artistic endeavors, I aspire to leave an indelible mark on the world, reminding people of the transformative power of music and the arts.

Optimistic - Sound of Blackness
This is one of those songs that stays with you forever. It is a message of faith and hopefulness. The song was written at a time when there was a lot of negativity in the world and the writers (Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam) wrote it to uplift all kinds of people no matter what ethnicity or race they were. I resonate with this song today because of how it brought me out of a dark time in my life and helped me into a transitional phase to having faith and trusting that everything was going to be just fine regardless of what others may think. It helped me believe that I could overcome anything in the world, and that realisation gave me a reason to be optimistic no matter what.
Even though the song is as old as it is (created in 1991), its message is powerful and timeless as it still is relevant today with the negativity that is going around in the world. It can uplift people in any circumstance even if they are already uplifted, it is truly a beautiful song.

Music is the reason I am the confident and charismatic person I am today. Ever since music came into my life, it has given me life and a multitude of reasons to live it well. I've loved music since a very young age and I've seen how it affects me and how it affects those around me. Music is powerful. It is one of the greatest gifts that God has given us. It gives us the power to share our emotions and feelings with others in one of the most contagious ways known to man.
As music gives us life, it can give life to others in the world who are hurting or are broken, it can even take away the pain of the sick and bridge the gaps between rivals uniting all kinds of people. We could use music to inspire people to do things that are far greater than they can even dream of; take them on a journey of self-discovery and show them a world full of brand new ideas and imagination that broadens their understanding of life.
Music touches every heart and every soul, whether people say they like music or not it is within all of us. It can take the lonely and broken-hearted to a place of healing and belonging. It allows our souls to breathe a breath of fresh air and exhale the negative thoughts that were consuming our minds.
With music, we have the power to bring these feelings of belonging, healing and inspiration to all people across the globe. I aspire to bring music to as many people around the world as possible so that their lives can be changed for the better forever. I would love nothing more than to use the gift of music to reach out into the world and break the shackles of depression and brokeness in the world. To equip the helpless so that they too can have that power to reach out to others and help them out of their situation.
There are countless people out there that feel like they have no purpose in life and that there is no place for them in this world. It is one of my life's goals to minister to these people through music, to inspire them to a greater understanding that they can do the greatest of things and that they can dream as much as they want to and still have the power to make these dreams come true. They have the power to do anything their heart desires, everyone has that same power. Music has shown me this reality in countless ways and this is why I am so passionate about music.
