My life goal is to become the first to graduate in my family. I'm most passionate about pursuing a field that can help people, such as occupational therapy. I'm a great candidate because I'm resilient and highly motivated.

It wasn’t until I saw my mother interacting with her patients at the nursing home that I realized I wanted to become an occupational therapist or anything else in the health profession. I witnessed how amazing she was with the people she took care of. Seeing my mother help out others inspired me to do the same. Ever since the day I first visited my mom at work I’ve dreamt of becoming an occupational therapist. My mother plays a huge role in my aspirations to someday practice medicine. Every time I reflect back on what and who I want to be, I think back to when I first visited my mom's job. I think I was between the ages of eight and ten when I first went to her job so I got an idea of what I wanted to be at a young age. Children don’t often think about their future but I started early because I have goals to strive for.
I come from a Haitian background so I know what it's like to not be seen. I think many minorities also feel the same way when it comes to the professional atmosphere, like healthcare since it's usually dominated by Caucasians. I will commit to diversity within my occupational profession by ensuring fairness and transparency are used to enable equal opportunity amongst all races.
When it comes to financial needs, I need help paying off my tuition. Currently, I take out loans to help me get through college. I support myself so I do my best to pay for my tuition, transportation, and book fees during college without any parental support. I will use this scholarship to either pay for my next semester's tuition or put it towards my loans. I know this scholarship will be able to help me in my future endeavors.
My goal within the next ten years is to possibly make a difference in someone's life. I know there are going to be a few milestones to get where I want to go, maybe even more than I expect but every obstacle I face will aid me to work even harder to achieve my goals. I’m proud to not have gone astray from a career in healthcare because it could lead to me possibly doing great things someday. The aspirations I had back then are still the same as the aspirations I have now and will continue to be the same in the future.
