Lost Dreams Awaken Scholarship
Recovery is the period in my life where I implement self love and kindness, from starting in a twelve step program to my career. Recovery has enabled me to have a healthy growing relationship with myself for years. Starting in twelve step, I have learned how to love myself, others, and implement healthy boundaries. While I have had many benefits from recovery, I have also been able to participate in others' recovery journey. Becoming a sponsor, I have found more responsibility, patience, and kindness develop for those around me. Now as a registered nurse, I am able to provide health care for those in addiction facilities. Recovery has been in my life and supported my growth personally and in my profession.
Bold Science Matters Scholarship
A favorite scientific discovery is the smart bed. As a nurse, there is a need to ensure the patient is receiving the best care possible. Smart beds can ensure patients in all areas of the hospital are receiving the best care possible, while helping nursing staff with their body mechanics. In the medical surgical units, this may appear as a patient being turned to prevent or treat pressure ulcers, where as in the labor and delivery unit, it may appear as a to be mom with an epidural being repositioned by the bed and nurse to ensure a successful outcome. In these every day examples, nurses and their patients have health benefits. Health care settings can also have benefits, such as avoiding having to payout a nurse who got injured, or patients not healing efficiently. Although not every health care setting has this scientific innovation, I hope more nurses, patients, and health care settings will come to discovery in their own setting.
