Loxy Burckhard Love is Kind Memorial Scholarship
"Love is kind" is the unconditional care and consolation that people give one another. This love can take place at any time or place. Love is the willingness to support and guide someone else through any stage of their life. In my everyday life, I show love in taking care of my grandparents. My grandma is 83 years old and my grandfather is 88 years old. My grandmother suffered a life-threatening stroke back in 2018. Since then, I have had the big task of watching over her and making sure she is taken care of. This includes preparing her medicine, taking her to the bathroom, and making sure she is fed and nourished. I have the help of my mother but she is not always available as she works a full-time job. Because of this, I am sometimes forced to sacrifice time and effort to take care of her and my grandfather. I do not get paid or any special award for being their caretaker, I simply do these tasks out of love for my grandparents. I feel that the love for these people, in return, makes me a kinder person. It helps me build my social skills and develops my patience. These tasks give me immense gratitude as I get to spend as much time as possible with my grandparents. The love and appreciation I gain from my experiences will help me impact the world as I have shaped my morals and values based on my elders. While partaking in caring for my grandparents, I am taught several lessons and stories about the struggles and hardships that they faced growing up, whether it was racism, hard work in the fields, or having to support their other siblings because they were the oldest in the household. Their experiences showed me how lucky I am to have the opportunity to invest in myself and go to college. I have used these morals to guide me to a 3.9 GPA and a rank of 4th within my class. I hope to get a degree in software engineering and become a computer administrator at a high school or college campus. It is there I will have the opportunity to shape the next generation of students and prepare them for their life ahead.
