Bio

I'm Verónica Godína, a passionate advocate for immigration rights and juvenile justice. I have a personal connection to immigration rights due to my family's mixed citizenship status. As a student at Brown University, my studies focus on Latin American and Caribbean Studies and Migration Studies, allowing me to comprehend these complex issues. Recently, I volunteered at a Mexico City shelter supporting deported DACA youth, solidifying my commitment to just immigration policies. Studying migration at El Colegio de Mexico further expanded my insight. In Chicago, I volunteer as a translator at a sanctuary church, aiding migrants seeking asylum. As an intern at an all-female-run law firm in Chicago, I assist in the cases of queer and female migrants from Latin America. I aspire to be an immigration lawyer providing pro-bono work at the border for equal access to justice. Committed to juvenile justice, I volunteer at Rhode Island for Community and Justice, participating in non-punitive juvenile hearing boards. I'm honored to serve on the Rhode Island governor-appointed Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee. Brown has recognized my dedication with honors, including the Bonner Fellowship, Global Experiential Learning and Teaching Grant, and Undergraduate Teaching and Research Award. I'm also a 2x recipient of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. My journey is driven by an unwavering passion for immigration rights and juvenile justice. I strive for a just and inclusive society as an immigration lawyer, supporting marginalized communities and working toward equity.
