FinalistBio
I am a 25 year-old Mexican who wants to get to work at the United Nations, the World Trade Organization and/or the World Bank. My purpose is to find a job that helps me contribute to my community and the world. I am passionate about education, international affairs, languages, culture and volunteer work.
As for now, I have a B.A. in International business and I am pursuing a Master's degree in Finance.
I've had the opportunity to travel and study abroad thanks to scholarships. Before I was 21, I lived in Mexico, Canada, United States, and China. I don't come from a wealthy family, but that hasn't stopped me from trying to accomplish what I want in life. Traveling abroad and getting to know people from different cultures and historical backgrounds has expanded my vision and my horizons. It amazes me how diverse we can be, yet so similar. For that, and many other reasons, my main goal in life is to contribute to my community, and wherever possible, to the world.

I Can Do Anything Scholarship
I was born and raised in Mexico and I come from a family that has taught me that education is important. My parents and their respective families struggled with money as they grew up, but they never stopped studying. In my dream version of my future self, I would like to work with different organizations to bring schools to poverty areas that cannot afford education, I want to give the children of my community the opportunity to expand their horizons.
Taylor Swift ‘1989’ Fan Scholarship
I have been a Taylor Swift fan since I was in high school. I grew up listening to her songs and feeling somewhat identified with the lyrics. In 1989 we can listen to a more mature Taylor, that has gone through a lot and who has a more realistic approach to life. My favorite song in this album is "Clean". We all have experienced heartbreak at some point in life and I just love how Taylor portrays her process of healing her broken heart in this song.
When we start being in a relationship, everything is happiness, bliss, and excitement. When we are falling in love, we see rainbows and colors in everything we do with that special someone, and we create happy memories. Eventually, a part of the other person becomes part of you too. Sometimes you know that a relationship is not meant to be, but still you want to try to make it work, despite having all the odds against you. Sometimes you are just so infatuated with someone, you portray him as a perfect human being without realizing that they have flaws too. For whatever reason, sometimes things just don’t work out and after you portray a future with someone, it is harsh to realize that things with someone you love came to an end.
Grieving for someone that is still alive is one of the worst things in life, especially when there is a connection, but you know it’s best for you to refrain from contacting the person. Everywhere you go and everything you do is going to remind you of that special someone. There are going to be memories everywhere, and it is going to be gut-wrenching. That’s going to be the hardest time, as Taylor describes:
“The drought was the very worst
When the flowers that we'd grown together died of thirst”
Then, as time passes and things happen the wound eventually heals. In order for this to happen, you might even hit rock bottom and feel like it’s the end of the world. You might even explode in a way you didn’t even know you needed in order to move on:
“Rain came pouring down
When I was drowning, that's when I could finally breathe”
And then you overcome the pain of missing that person: you are ready to let go. And letting go doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t miss the person anymore, it just means you came to terms with the fact that this person wasn’t meant to end up with you:
“Ten months sober, I must admit
Just because you're clean, don't mean you don't miss it”
And then, after all you went through to mend your broken heart, it’s always scary to fall in love again:
“Ten months older, I won't give in
Now that I'm clean, I'm never gonna risk it”
This is my favorite 1989 song because I can relate to it in so many levels. And I know this song was written thinking about a broken heart due to a relationship that didn’t work out, but that’s not the only thing that can break your heart. It can be about a friendship that didn't work out, or about a situation in your life in which you feel betrayed by someone you love. I think that this is one of the most underrated songs of Taylor Swift ever. I also love how this song despite being part of 1989 gives the energy a song we can listen to in Folklore or Evermore would give.
