Ginny Biada Memorial Scholarship
Growing up with a single mother taught me the value of hard work, determination, and respect for women. My mother was always an inspiration to me as she worked long hours serving others and came home with swollen ankles, yet never lost her resolve to provide for our family. Despite her busy schedule, she was also responsible for taking care of me and my younger sibling brother. Her unwavering commitment to our family is evident in the sacrifices she made to move us out of the inner city of Cincinnati to Arizona, which was a turning point in my life as my grades improved dramatically.
My mother has also taught me the importance of perseverance and resilience. Even when faced with difficult challenges, she never gave up and always found a way to push through. This is a lesson that has stayed with me throughout my life and has helped me to become the person I am today. Her passion for learning and her dedication to improving herself is truly inspiring, and she continues to attend Arizona State University alongside me, where we have a friendly competition going on to see who can achieve better grades.
I am proud to be the son of such a remarkable woman and I strive to live up to her example by working hard, showing respect for women, and never giving up in the face of adversity. I am grateful for all that she has done for me and I am determined to repay her by providing the same love, support, and opportunities that she has given me.
My mother’s sacrifices and unwavering determination have had a profound impact on my life and I am grateful for the opportunities she has provided for me. I hope to continue her legacy by pursuing my education and making a positive impact on the world.
In conclusion, my mother is a true inspiration to me and I am grateful for her unwavering love and support. Despite the added responsibility of taking care of two children, she never wavered in her commitment to our family and her sacrifices have taught me the importance of hard work and the strength of women. I am proud to call her my mother and I am determined to repay her by continuing her legacy and making a positive impact on the world through my education and personal growth.
Thank you,
Valencio Gray.

Bold Giving Scholarship
Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, my head coach of my little league football team gave back to us as players by allowing us to participate in extracurricular activities and keeping us out of trouble due to our location in the inner city. It's critical for me to continue the cycle and ensure that kids who are similar to me don't get into trouble and participate in activities that keep them active. Because, in the end, health is wealth. I want to create my own little league football team as well one day and coach high school.
Deborah's Grace Scholarship
Because of my natural athletic ability, sports were a mainstay in our family home when I was growing up. Football was my favorite sport since I was six years old. I played little league all the way through college. The most difficult adversity came from the injuries I sustained during my football career. Being raised by a single African American mother made me mentally strong. During my senior year of high school, I suffered a major knee injury known as a meniscus tear. It was a two-month recovery process, and because I was a senior in high school, I couldn't get surgery because it would mean missing the entire season, which I couldn't afford because I had colleges looking at me, so I played through the injury. I was able to amass enough film to earn a scholarship to Colorado Mesa University, a division 2 school. I ended up starting my second year and breaking my hand twice during the season. Anyone who knows college football knows that injuries push you to the bottom of the depth chart, and I had to work my way back to the top, which I did. During my recovery, it was difficult because my teammates thought I was deciding not to play despite the fact that my hand was broken and the doctor refused to clear me, so it bothered me that my teammates thought that about me. I ended up joining the team with a cast and padding on the cast, and I got a spot. Later on, I decided to leave that school and join another school in my hometown community in order to have the opportunity to transfer to another school, but this time it would be a D1 school rather than a D2. Little did I know, my final and final blow of adversity was on its way. I ended up tearing several ligaments in my knee, including the ACL. To cut a long story short, my recovery was not going so well. I was unable to play again and decided to concentrate on my studies, becoming a scholar athlete that year. This academic performance was significant because I had always been an average student in terms of grades. That year demonstrated to me that I was capable of maintaining a high GPA while also being an exemplary student. To this day, college coursework is simple, and focusing on finishing my work is easier because I approach all assignments the same way I did in 2015, the year I suffered my last football injury. Now I tell others that nothing good comes without some pain and that everything happens for a reason.
Mirajur Rahman's Satirical Experiential Essay Scholarship
I previously worked in the insurance industry for the well-known company State Farm. I work in the company's IT department, ensuring that systems are up and running properly for the 40,000 agents and team members. One thing that makes me very concerned about humanity's future is that many of the agents and team members in their 30s and 40s have no idea how to reset a computer password. I mean, the computer literally tells the associates when their password is about to expire, and even after I explain how to change it, they are still computer illiterate. Understanding technology is critical given where the world is heading with the arrival of COVID-19. On a more serious note, I recently completed a research paper on how natural gas drilling leaks methane, which then evaporates into the atmosphere, negatively affecting the world, also known as global warming or climate change. If the world does not learn how to use natural gas sustainably and transition to renewable resources such as solar or wind, we will lose humanity at some point because electricity is almost as important as water and food for humans that when natural gas runs out in 2060, as studies have shown, we will lose power if we do not find another resource to power electricity other than natural gas. As a result of studies conducted by various organizations, the world is moving toward a much higher demand for electricity. I mean, no one needs me to cite any sources to see that everything, including cars, the only technology that is going to have a forever era is going to be electric soon. The truth is that natural gas is harmful to the environment and life in general. Which could potentially put a date on the end of humanity if we do not change our source of electricity generation.
Jameela Jamil x I Weigh Scholarship
I grew up in Mesa, Arizona, and attended Westwood High School. When we talk about diversity and inclusion, we often forget that it is about more than just race, religion, or sexual orientation. Those with disabilities are a group that is frequently left out of the discussion. The purpose of this essay is to shed light on individuals with disabilities. In high school, there was a young man named Jack, and I would rather not use his personal name because I am not in contact with this gentleman and would rather not expose his name to the public, but Jack was a peer of mine at Westwood, and every year a school has a high school prom, and typically nominees create a video on why they want to be prom king. Jack created his own video with his mother, who stated that one of Jack's lifelong ambitions was to be Prom King once he reached the age of seniority. Jack has been a huge football fan for as long as I can remember. As I was a teammate, Jack was always excited to high five me and talk with me, but as prom approached, it became clear who would be Prom King, and I always thought people treated others with disabilities in high school as if they were invisible. So I automatically cast my vote for Jack and hoped he would win. When all of the voting was finished, the entire school voted for him to win! When he was named Prom King during the football game that night, he was overjoyed, and I remember tearing up myself as his mother walked him into the middle of the field to have the crown placed on him in tears. That was the day I realized my generation in 2011 was unlike any other because we came together as a student body to make a dream come true for one of the nicest, happiest people in Westwood's student history. As a young high school student, I was proud of my senior class, and that day gave me more faith in humanity.
