Hello everyone, my name is Titus Dao, a 16 year old who lives in the Mendocino county of Ukiah. In order to enhance my studies however, I am also a student at multiple community colleges, such as taking classes such as Mendocino, Santa Rosa, Los Rios, and East Los Angeles City college. I prioritize my studies and classes, as I want to achieve my time into reaching my goals.
That being, I would like to go into the field of Neuroscience and Biology, so that I could achieve my occupation of being a neurosurgeon. With that as my ambition, I dedicate myself to being a hard-core, but ambitious worker, as to accomplish my goals, I have to apply myself to go beyond just someone of my age. It was not easy at my age to be treated with much respect however, as everyone believes that someone my age should take it easy, relaxed, and to enjoy my teenage, high school years. However, I digress from all their statements, as I believe that in our current day and age, we are in a world that constantly needs more people in the health-care business, with more people who need assistance and help.
Helping others is a commitment that I want to achieve at any cost. As someone who always want to help someone, I believe that universal goodness comes in the form of helping others, in any way, shape, or form. While I am still young, still knowing and growing, I feel like it's a moral obligation for me to still be there for people.
A person can't just wait until they're older in order to finally achieve doctor-hood to help people. In order to help now, you have to start young and optimistic now.

Adversity is an inevitable part of the human experience, capable of shaping individuals in profound ways. Whether it stems from personal challenges, societal hardships, or unforeseen circumstances, adversity has the potential to test one's mettle and resilience. This paper explores the multifaceted impact of adversity on individuals, delves into the strategies they employ to overcome it, and highlights the transformative effect it can have on people's lives.
Adversity can have a profound effect on people's lives, both emotionally and psychologically. It challenges their sense of identity, tests their beliefs and values, and often leads to feelings of fear, despair, and uncertainty. Adversity can cause individuals to question their purpose, abilities, and worth, creating a tumultuous inner landscape. However, it is within the depths of adversity that individuals have the opportunity to discover their true strength and resilience. While adversity may seem insurmountable, individuals have a remarkable capacity to rise above it. They employ various strategies and approaches to navigate the tumultuous waters of adversity. These include:
Resilience: Resilience is the ability to bounce back from challenges and setbacks. It involves cultivating a positive mindset, maintaining a sense of hope, and adapting to changing circumstances. Resilient individuals view adversity as an opportunity for growth and learning, using setbacks as stepping stones toward success. Recognizing the power of human connection, individuals often seek support from friends, family, or support networks. Sharing their experiences and emotions with others provides solace, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. Through shared experiences, individuals realize they are not alone in their struggles, fostering a sense of unity and collective strength. Adversity often prompts individuals to engage in deep introspection, examining their strengths, weaknesses, and personal values. They harness adversity as a catalyst for personal growth, embracing the opportunity to learn from setbacks, refine their character, and develop new skills.
The journey of overcoming adversity extends beyond the individual, as it has the potential to inspire and uplift others. When individuals triumph over their challenges, their stories become beacons of hope for those facing similar struggles. The display of resilience, determination, and courage serves as a testament to the human spirit's capacity for triumph. By sharing their experiences and lessons learned, individuals empower others to confront their adversities with strength and resilience.
Moreover, the act of overcoming adversity creates a ripple effect that extends beyond personal growth. It fosters a culture of compassion, empathy, and understanding, as individuals who have faced adversity are often more attuned to the struggles of others. They become advocates for change, working to create supportive environments and offering guidance to those in need. The transformative power of overcoming adversity helps build resilient communities that thrive in the face of challenges. As such, adversity has the potential to shape individuals in profound ways, challenging their resolve and testing their resilience. Through strategies such as resilience, seeking support, and self-reflection, individuals can overcome adversity, emerging stronger and more resilient than before. Furthermore, the impact of overcoming adversity extends beyond personal growth, inspiring others and fostering a culture of compassion and empathy. Embracing resilience in the face of adversity is a testament to the indomitable spirit of humanity, reminding us that through perseverance, we can overcome even the greatest challenges that life presents us.
PAC: Diversity Matters Scholarship
In a world that spans a multitude of different cultures, religions, and races, it is an entire massive sphere that encapsulates our entire world and Earth. As an aspect of my identity, as a male Asian American, it feels very quick to feel overwhelmed by the nature of the entire world's multiple and diverse amounts of cultures, races, religions, and other important external factors. Growing up as an Asian and Buddhist, I was constantly viewed oddly and strangely in my times at elementary and middle school since the majority of the population not consisting of Asians around the communities I lived in, it was difficult to fit in and adjust to the crowds of people. Even helping and assisting others was a challenge as the different ethnicity of people I grew up near and with always viewed me as someone who was just a strange "Asian," in a pool of different races around me. As such, I buried my feelings of indifference and sense of self to fit in with my fellow neighbors and the community around me.
However, as I grew older, I began to see a transforming change in myself and those around me. From moving to a newer community, I began to feel a sense of acceptance and growth in me, as compared to my previous nature, I began to reveal more about my Asian distinction and history, instead of barring it behind closed doors in the back of my mind. In addition, the newer people I was with were more open and friendly about my Asian distinction, asking compelling questions about my past and history, compared to before when it was the needed, polite nod or affirmative okay to just acknowledge me. As such, the barriers that once made me feel obligated to be separated from others broke down into a harmonious, open nature with myself. From this unbarred nature, I was able to speak openly about my Asian culture and religion, such as my belief in being a Buddhist, the eternal belief in helping and assisting others, and being a vegetarian.
With my now open nature, it allowed my identity to open even futher to pursue my educational and healthcare goals. From my shy and recluded nature about my past gone, I was able to converse and speak with others to further advance my studies in schools. Another way how I was able to influence my interactions in the healthcare industry, such by finding peers who supported my goals. These peers and advisers then showed and assisted me in showing different paths to my occupational goals, all while respecting my religion and culture. As such, my identity as an Asian American Buddhist resonates inside me as something that would never be hidden again.
Filipino-American Scholarship
As a Filipino-American, it was challenging to adapt and fit in with the rest of society, being of Filipino descent in a nation where all other cultures surround and overwhelm you. When people think of someone of Filipino descent, it isn't as regarded highly important as someone of another Asian race such as Chinese, Vietnamese, or Indian. That being said, growing up being Filipino was very challenging for me, as I had to struggle to fit in and adapt to the society of American culture. I had to start speaking English as my first language, wear strange clothes that were very uncomfortable such as thick, stiff jeans or itchy, cotton t-shirts, and had to be cautious with my every action to not bring attention to my Filipino-American identity. This trait carried on from my elementary and middle school years, as my fear of being kept as an outsider or alien to others always had a deep, tugging feeling in my heart. As such, I had this trait defended inside of me, and it eventually became a regular habit and behavior that I kept.
However, this all changed when I entered my high school years. Compared to elementary and middle school, high school had a profound difference in terms of diversity, culture, and traits that people had. Freedom of expression and style was abundant in the high school, with students and even teachers expressing their quirks and interests. As such, it slowly brought out more of my Filipino-American identity to the world. I started to collaborate and talk with my friends but without the fear of revealing my Filipino descent and culture to others. This further boosted my confidence to be able to start talking Filipino to not just my friends, but to new people, teachers, and peers. As such my purpose for my Filipino-American descent was more than just a heritage, it is the fact of your upbringing, culture, and moral values that you bring. Salamat.

The medical career is a difficult path of a job along with medical school which also is a difficult path to go through as it requires a lot of hard work, time and effort, and trial and error. Why should they pick me? What are my intentions to go applying for it? Is there a reason why you want to apply for medical school?
I feel like becoming a doctor was never for the benefit of myself. From the time when I was young until now, I always had the dream to go for a medical career, striving for a high-paying job in the future. A doctor always gets the most respect out of all careers, save for politics. They are the ones people look up to, as it is the hardest type of career that many people will tend to turn down for an easier path. I had always had a strong feeling that I could become a doctor, not only because of dreams but hard work and dedication. The reason why most people don't want to become doctors is that it’s a long, tiring mountain of obstacles. I feel like that is the reason why people tend to chicken out. However, they don’t see at the end of the mountain, there is a valley of opportunity, waiting for the people who are willing to make the journey. Along with that, doctors also receive high pay for their jobs. They are one of the highest payest people in the world besides business owners and tycoons. With that kind of money that doctor makes, I could use it to help others. As the world demands more or better people during this time, a doctor can help people in their time of need. Doctors sometimes go all out to travel around the world, saving people's lives, aiding the sick, and helping out the poor. While some doctors do it for fame, wealth, or recognition, I want to do it out of humility for human kindness and virtue. Doctors are not supposed to go around bragging about their wealth or fame, instead, they are supposed to help people. Along to help other people around the world, I also have another reason why I want to become a doctor. To help out my own family. As I was young, my parents have always provided everything I needed to achieve my goal. My education took me across the world to see how people who need help, motivate me to become a doctor not only for other people but for my family. In the future, I see myself as a doctor, helping others, donating money to those in need, and becoming the person I always wanted to become.
Being a doctor is a rough journey, a long tiring one. Yet as the saying goes, the mountain never really stops until you reach the top. How I apply it to myself is to study, work hard, and eventually, I will climb up the mountain. I will reach the top, become a doctor, and then make my way down, to help others and achieve my life’s dream.

While everyone has their own unique and diverse experiences, some people have more special and interesting qualities that make them more different from the average person. For me, I differ from most people that I know, which is being known to show signs of leadership, kindness, and respect for those around me. In addition, these characteristics will lead me to follow my goal career and then give back to my community. Growing up in an impoverished and low-income neighborhood, it was always my goal for me to find ways to help others, whether their issues were to be emotional, physical, or mental problems that I could help alleviate or solve in any way. This trait of helping and aiding others was always a priority that I dedicated myself to managing. Although unclear why I dedicated myself so intently to this goal, I believed that in an environment where people constantly had to work and try to support themselves, I usually took charge of helping those folks, in any way possible. From there, I took charge in always leading, assisting, and managing things between my families, friends, and community, as well to also provide comfort when the situation arose. So, in times when I wasn’t cleaning up the neighborhood, helping others with their duties and chores, or just going around to find someone to assist, I was also busy focusing on my studies and school. Since my family advised me that receiving a good education and career was the key to success, I figured that achieving an occupation that can help me be financially stable, but also enough to provide for others, sparked my interest in trying to find the best occupation that correlated with my skills and interests, as well as my keen interest for helping people. That being said, these experiences further correspond with my career goal of being a neurosurgeon. A neurosurgeon was my best career choice because it targeted the three factors that I wanted for a career path, that being a path in the medical field, a great career choice of income and finance, and an overall deal of helping and aiding others. With those three attributes contributing to my job, I would be able to give back to my family, friends, and community, financially and medically as well. With my source of new income, I would be able to give back to those from my community, as well as assist them with free medical attention and support when the need arises.

For me, I found the best way to overcome adversity, the best thing to do is to take it by the horns and try to take it down before it overcomes you. Adversity can come in many ways, physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually, or any other ways in which you might be facing at the moment or have been. However, the best way to deal with a problem is to face it and not run away from it. If you do, the problem will catch up to you one way or another.

One book that inspired me to read was the book, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Back when I was in second grade, I greatly struggled to click or relate to a book, that being in which I could never find an interest or connection to any books I read. However, when I started to read Percy Jackson, I felt like a gate opened out from me, with my interest in books suddenly reaching a whole new level. Ever since then, I started to read more difficult and challenging stories further down the line.

Video games, more specifically online gaming, are shaping ours and future generations in a way that makes our world more corrupt, more or less. How this relates to me is because when I grow up in a generation that relates to others playing video games such as killing, gambling, and such, it promotes the motive around our generation to follow that standard as well.
