I want to see a change in my community, country, and the world to be willing to help others without thinking of self. I want to see a world where when there is an incident or disaster, people automatically say "I want to help", and not "I wonder if I should help". I want to see a world where everyone is willing to give their time, donate their resources, or even risk their life for someone in need. I want to see a world where instead of people watching and recording acts, everyone is too busy helping to be watching and recording. I hate it when I see "I need volunteers", because there should be enough people to be willing to help in the first place. That is something that I want to change. In my community, I volunteer every week in some way or another. I am a member of the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary (Civil Air Patrol. With that program, I volunteer every year to help out with emergency services, aerospace education/safety, and EAA Airventure (The largest airshow in the world). I am also a part of a volunteer fire department within my area. Within the department, I hope to increase my impact of teaching fire safety to the community, while enjoying responding to people in distress. I volunteer once to twice a month at the local food pantry as well. I enjoy helping give food to people who are working for a place to stay and paying for food but only for their kids. Those people are especially hard to see, and it is sad seeing there are no other ways to help them receive help. I wish more people were willing to put in the time. It is sad to see a time where instead of everyone giving time, one person gives time and five others record the person giving time. It has ruined us, but I hope to create a change in that very soon.
100 Women Giving Back Northwoods Up-and-Coming Giver Scholarship
To the 100 Women Giving Back Northwoods: My name is Troy Kosobucki and I am 17 years old. I live in Peshtigo, Wisconsin, and am a Senior in high school at Peshtigo Middle/High. I have huge motivation and engagement towards helping others and volunteering for my community. I love to help people who have it even just a little worse than I do. I enjoy seeing the smiles that people get from volunteers helping, but most importantly, I enjoy seeing the sense of hope that is given to some who never thought someone would care. One of the activities I volunteer for most is the Civil Air Patrol. The Civil Air Patrol is the Offical Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. We focus on Emergency Services, Aerospace Education, and Cadet Programs and are composed of 52,000 members. During the year 2020, we volunteered to run supplies and vaccinations around the country to medical and government facilities that struggled to receive supplies. This past year, I volunteered all 8 days during the EAA Airventure air show in Oshkosh, WI. I was responsible for tracking aircraft, directing aircraft, and directing/assisting passengers boarding and exiting aircraft. With the program, I am also trained to track and locate downed aircraft, perform search and rescue, and have a First Aid/CPR certification. All 52,000 of us do this while completely volunteering. I also enjoy volunteering for other organizations as well. I am a volunteer firefighter for the towns of Grover and Porterfield Fire Department. I enjoy every second of it and love helping the people who call for us when needed. I attend training 9-18 hours a week, while still assisting at the department and going on calls. I also volunteer for the local food pantry as well. 1-2 Wednesdays a month I go and assist with loading groceries and toiletries into vehicles for people who are disabled or struggling physically. I believe the more philanthropic people, the better our community becomes. There is so much opportunity missed by people who do not volunteer or do not believe in it. Giving time is one of the most important gifts, in my opinion, that can be given. Unfortunately, we have lost a number of philanthropic people due to only believing in ourselves. Just doing basic things such as holding a door opening, helping pay for someone's coffee, or helping someone upstairs who is disabled can change an entire outlook on life. As my life moves forward, my number one goal while volunteering is to pass the joy on to others. The same joy I feel while seeing the smile on people's faces. My favorite hobby is volunteering. Just since May of 2022, I have put in over 300+ hours of volunteering. I am currently on track to reach my goal of 600+ Hours by May of 2023. I believe helping others and volunteering is something unfortunately not seen as an everyday practice anymore. I am out to change that and give my time to someone else, hopefully at least once a day.
