We all agree that the Filipino community is the best through our delicious food, kind-hearted people, history and great values. As the first full Filipino to be the senior class president of Henry Perrine High School I was able to shape my educational journey and desire to make our community better. I was granted the opportunity to be the leader of our Thanksgiving week, including a teacher's free breakfast that I cooked with my culinary teacher and the assembly for our culture day. As a Filipina, I was proud to show my culture to everyone. That is why I came up with the plan to create a day where all the students can express their culture through varieties of food, clothing and dances. I may not have helped the world to be better but I sure made the different cultures of our school feel loved and accepted by letting them express themselves. As a Filipina who grew up in the Philippines, I was taught different things but I was able to show it to my school and let them learn how beautiful it is to be a Filipino. But I also believe that it is not just about your culture or where you came from that you would be able to achieve your desired future. It is how you apply that knowledge to good things and let yourself learn from your mistakes. Me and my mom recently moved here in the United States for about 5 years now. For these 5 years of us living in the United States my dad and two brothers are still in the Philippines. I started working when I was 15 years old because I saw how my mom was working tirelessly just to provide for our needs and my family's needs back in the Philippines. As the oldest sibling of my family, they expect a lot from me because of my high grades. I want to keep making them proud because I know how hard it was back in the day for my parents. My mom got pregnant in her senior year of college and because of me, she wasn’t able to use her diploma to apply for her dream job. That is why I want to finish college and make her proud because I want to give back her huge sacrifices for me. This financial support would help me because my mom sacrifices a lot for our family and I would like to take my financial responsibility during my college years so that she doesn’t need to worry about paying any of my tuition and other fees. I believe that if I was allowed to be granted this financial support. I would do everything to reach my future goals because I want to make my mom proud and for her to know that all her sacrifices won’t go to waste.
