Bio

Hi. My name is Trisha Thuy-Nhi Le. I am Vietnamese-American and have lived in America all 17 years of my life. I really enjoy doing art, dancing, and learning about art history. I am a senior at my high school. Currently at my high school, I am quite dedicated to my clubs, especially K-Pop Dance Club where I have been active for 2 years due to COVID-19. My freshman year at my high school was quite different from the average freshman year due to COVID-19, so my freshman year was online rather than in-person. The pandemic has affected my learning earlier on, but I overcame the obstacle as I settled into the high school.

      Resilient Scholar Award
My name is Trisha Thuy-Nhi Le and I am a senior high school student at Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. I come from a low-income family and rely on financial aid to help pay for my tuition. I am quite dedicated to my education as I currently have a 4.0 GPA. I participate in multiple clubs at my school, such as Active Minds Club where we raise awareness for mental illnesses. I am 17 years old and am graduating from Benjamin Franklin High School in May of 2024. I was raised by my mom and currently live with her and my maternal grandparents. My dad was incarcerated many years ago, so my mom has custody over me. Throughout my life, my mom and I often visited my dad and when I was in 4th grade, my dad was released. Although he is released, he still does not live with me and my mom. He does, however, visit us almost every weekend. Because of this experience of being raised without a very visible father figure, I realized quite young that my family was different from others. My friends often had both of their parents come to watch their performances, but I rarely had my dad watching me. My mom would often be busy with work and unable to attend, so my maternal uncles would attend in her place and record for her to watch later. This has occurred quite often throughout my life as I really enjoy performing and dancing. My parents both know of my hobbies and support me, however it can be difficult. I often struggle to find a ride to practices and mostly have to rely on my friends to carpool with them. I understand these circumstances, but I really wished there was a way for me to be fully participating in these activities with my parents help. However, when I think of these events, I often reason that this is because my family is different from others. My dad only visits on weekends and my mom is often busy with work. Being unable to rely on them, I learned to rely on my uncles and aunts that also live in my maternal grandparents' home. Ever since I was young, I learned that whenever I needed help, I shouldn't bother my mom, but instead I could ask my uncles questions about my homework. My mom does help me sometimes, but I understand she can't be there all the time. This experience allowed me to understand that my family isn't like others, but I like how it is now.

I am 17 years old and am graduating from Benjamin Franklin High School in May of 2024. This scholarship will help me because I wish to become a pharmacist later in life. My family currently is struggling with money as my maternal grandfather has suddenly become disabled and often is taken to the hospital. Because of how serious his health has become, my grandfather is taken to the hospital for weekly check-ups. He has had both feet amputated and has type 2 diabetes. My grandfather has recently visited the hospital and was said to potentially have kidney failure if we do not pay attention and start caring for it now. We currently have a home nurse come to our home weekly to help us attend to my grandfather. She helps us take care of him to try to prevent his health from deteriorating and has also helped me decide on the path I wish to take. He has also been in and out of the emergency room many times throughout the last two years, which also adds to our family's debt. My grandfather has been prescribed many different types of medicine which my family also struggles to pay for. He takes almost 6 different pills every day and I help organize the pills according to the doctor's instructions. I want to be a pharmacist to be able to make medicine and help others who are in similar situations. Experiencing such things is stressful, especially for people my age who are also soon to be graduating high school. The constant worry about paying for college tuition fees and family debt is very stressful. Due to such worries, I have constantly thought of what I can do to help out my family to relieve the debt. I have been doing well in school and suddenly became interested in medicine, which led to my decision to aim towards pharmacy. I want to be able to help make medicines that can help others and also save others.

      Ultimate K-Pop Stan Scholarship
My favorite group is ENHYPEN. I loved every one of their albums and even collected their albums. My bias in the group is Yang Jungwon, the leader. My favorite song is TFW (That Feeling When). I also went to an ENHYPEN concert in 2022 and had a great time watching them perform. During COVID-19 quarantine, I was quite fond of survival shows like Produce X 101 and eventually, I found I-Land. I watched I-Land as it was released and watched the contestants as they worked hard for their dreams. I then saw how the group was formed and was greatly impacted by their hard work towards their own dreams. I remember being so excited when I saw their debut song Given-Taken release and later on, when they announced their fandom name EN-GENE. I am proud to say that I am an EN-GENE. Seeing them so passionate towards their dreams inspired me to be more active. I was always a shy person, so I was quite scared to talk to others, especially those who had the same interests as me. After seeing I-Land, I gained the courage to join my school's K-Pop Dance Club and became quite active. I've performed in every ENHYPEN song the club performed. I performed in Paradoxx Invasion, Upper Side Dreamin', and also Bite Me. I, of course, also performed in other songs as well, but I really enjoyed Bite Me where I was a backup dancer for my friend who performed as Heeseung. By having the courage to perform such songs, I gained confidence in my dancing and also made many new friends. Thinking back now, I believe I have really grown since I learned about ENHYPEN. I gained confidence in myself and my skills. I would have never expected myself to be able to make so many new friends and also dance in front of the whole school. I remember when even my own family was shocked when they heard I willingly joined a club just to dance to the music I love. They always ask me how I don't feel nervous on stage when I dance in front of others, but I always respond to them saying that I just suddenly felt confident that I can perform as well as I practiced with lots of effort. I just hope that others can see how much effort I put into dance or just school in general. Seeing how ENHYPEN put so much work just to get to where they are today inspires me to work just as hard so that I can also reach my dreams.
