I established a teen music jam in my backyard with a full sound system for young people to come and share their voices in song and share their individual messages and help their craft through language and songwriting. The high pressure I’m under to perform perfectly is intense and I ended up memorizing the guitar without hearing it in an hour and just strummed and sang during the performance like it was perfectly natural and it all worked out miraculously. You’ve got to problem solve under pressure and not give in to your emotions too much. And use the pressure and emotion to enhance my performance. This also helps me with taking exams at school. It’s not easy to get up in front of thousands of people and show your talent but there’s also nothing like it in the world and it’s so rewarding personally and on a large scale. Daniel’s ability to report in war torn countries inspires me every day to have the courage to perform. I hope to continue to have monthly music jams in college where people can collaborate and create positive music and messages together. I had met all these kids through something I call “Teen Music Jams” I host every few months at my home with a complete sound system so teens can perform their originals & new covers in front of a safe and supportive audience. We released the song and submitted it to competitions and festivals to spread the word, which paid off immensely with my most spectacular win of the #1 International Songwriting Contest last year. It went on to be shown at more festivals and performed at events at elementary schools around the world to award shows. This achievement showed I could make my passions become a reality, no matter how young I am. And that language is a powerful communicator through music.
