My name is Trinity Meekins. I am a senior at Alleghany High School, located in Covington, VA. I am currently maintaining a 3.5 GPA. I enjoy life, I love having fun, but most importantly I love to learn, which is reflected in my school work and my overall attitude to succeed. My short term goal is to complete high school and rank within the top10 of my class. I believe this would help set the stage for my future success. As for my long term career goal, I am striving to be like my mother who work within the healthcare field. I would like to obtain my bachelor’s degree in nursing to become a Nurse Practitioner.
Since I was a little girl I have always had a passion for helping others and making a difference. Recently, my father was hospitalized with a heart condition, and I witnessed firsthand how nurses can impact the outcome of a person's life, not just physically, but also mentally and emotionally. The doctors and nurses that saved my father from potentially dying made me very thankful. They provided him with comfort, continuous medical attention, and administered the necessary medication to promote his healing.
Seeing their level of professionalism and compassion in person, further motivated me to join the medical field. Knowing that I can have this effect on others, drives me even more to pursuit an education in nursing. I’m also currently enrolled in an Advanced Healthcare Pathway program at my high school, which I feel will give me a head start and a foundational understanding of the nursing field. In this program it allows me to participate in medical simulation activities, and develop professional mentor relationships with practicing clinicians.
Going through this ordeal with my father inspired me to look at life a little differently. It has giving me a sense of passion and purpose, which I hope will be reflected in my future medical endeavors. The doctors and nurses that gave me a glimpse into their world, has completely opened my eyes as it relate to helping others. They will never know how happy and thankful they made this future nurse practitioner.
