My experience with mental health has hindered my relationships with people and employers. Im working on my bachelors in Psychology, I would like to help with veterans or children who suffer from mental health. I would like to run a non profit for people with mental health related issues that is how I would give back. I suffered from mental and physical abuse as well as sexual abuse. I would like to open a plat form for women girls to open up about abuse. Would like to have a mentor ship program for girls.
I struggle with my mental health daily. I meta man almost 5 years ago who understand my struggle I can be hard to deal with sometimes but he is there to love me regardless. I want women and girls to know they're not alone through what ever abuse they are suffering. Please get help tell the police your family, friends some one you trust. Also see a therapist for help, does not mean you're crazy.
The psychology field needs more caring and trust worthy people in the field too give back. I love helping others. When I was a child I always wanted to be a counselor. So many people lack compassion for others I do not. The current field I work in is criminal justice as a case manager I enjoy my job helping offenders get back on their feet. I work as an education coordinator, and religion coordinator have other trainings under my belt as well. I see that in this field there is less compassion due to what a person has done. I look at the re entry aspect of it, the offender is already being punished for what he has done.
Mental health has went down in many aspects. There are not many places for people with mental health to go. People with mental health usually end up in prisons where there is limited help. You may have one or two psychologists per prison and they may have 200 offenders to see which limits interaction with offenders. People need to have a structured environment to go to when they have mental crises.
I would be grateful to receive this scholarship award to finish my education and to make a difference in peoples lives. I would like to promote more awareness in physical, mental, sexual abuse. I would like to have a place for ladies and girls to go to talk and let their emotion and feelings flow with out judgement. Thanks for taking the time to view my essay.
Sincerely,Toysha White
