I want to become part of the solution to the traumas of history. I believe the law provides a forum where peace, hope, and love can conquer the temptation of using the legal system as a weapon to hurt enemies instead of as a shield to help victims heal from harm.
I want to study Indian Law so I can help address past harms by providing in-person and remote legal services to Indigenous tribes, communities, and individuals. My post-graduation goals include opening offices on reservations and offering remote legal services. Because I have operated an online notary business and writing company, I believe I have the skills and experience to optimize digital technology as a tool to address financial and geographic barriers that can make legal services unaffordable. Inaccessibility to competent and affordable attorneys made it difficult for Indigenous Americans to enforce treaty rights, reclaim land, protect resources, strengthen sovereignty, and build infrastructure. With tribes winning lawsuits to gain control over roadways and other critical infrastructure, lawyers are necessary to create regulations, zoning requirements, and advise leaders. My experiences volunteering in politics allowed me to understand the high cost of legal services for small communities. If I can donate legal services to tribal development projects, it will reduce costs and increase resources for other advents. I believe addressing a major cause of past inequalities will provide a path towards reconciliation and a more positive future, as wounds cannot heal if their cause is not treated.
