Bio

I am currently a second year accounting major at Susquehanna University. I am a hardworking and disciplined student, who is always looking for new challenges. During my time at Susquehanna University so far I have been involved in a few organizations, most notably the track and field team and the accounting club. I understand I received a lot of help to be where I am today. Which is why I strive to give back in the ways I can. I regularly volunteer at my University and inside my community. I hope after my time in school I will be able to give back to those that have helped me. As well as those that need the same help that I received.

    Sustainable Business Scholarship
In recent years, it is no question the global community has witnessed an increasing awareness of environmental issues and a growing concern for the planet's future. One of most significant factors that influences how our world develops are businesses and their industries. Companies now must adopt sustainable practices as a matter of ethics and strategy, in order to maintain a landscape they can survive and remain competitive in. This essay discusses the importance of companies using sustainable practices and lists three green projects that may drastically lower their carbon footprint. One of the primary reasons for businesses to implement sustainable practices is the growing importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR). In today's business world, customers are concerned about a company's ethics and environmental practices in addition to the goods and services it provides. Adopting sustainability improves a business's standing and fosters customer trust. This is a real investment in the loyalty of long-term customers, not just a publicity stunt. Businesses that show a dedication to environmentally friendly operations have a greater chance of drawing in eco-aware customers and gaining a competitive edge in the marketplace. Globally, governments are implementing more stringent environmental laws in response to the growing risks posed by climate change. Companies that violate these rules run the danger of harming their reputation and facing legal repercussions. By putting sustainable procedures into place, a business may minimize the danger of legal action and the accompanying financial penalties while also operating within the confines of environmental legislation. Moreover, encouraging resource efficiency and resilience against resource market volatility, sustainable measures can reduce operational risks. Businesses may promote long-term sustainability by adopting eco-friendly activities proactively and projecting a responsible corporate citizenry. Contrary to the misconception that sustainability practices are costly, many eco-friendly initiatives can lead to substantial cost savings for businesses. Reducing waste, using energy-efficient technology, and managing the supply chain sustainably all save operating costs while also protecting the environment. Investing in renewable energy sources has the potential to reduce energy bills over time, and implementing the concepts of the circular economy can minimize waste disposal expenses. Hence, adopting sustainable practices helps firms be solvent and more robust to fluctuations in the economy while also promoting environmental well-being. In conclusion, the adoption of sustainable practices is no longer an option but a necessity for businesses in the contemporary world. In addition to the ethical need to protect the environment for coming generations, companies may gain a great deal from sustainable activities, such as improved brand recognition, cost savings, regulatory compliance, and reduced risk. Companies can concentrate on programs like resource efficiency, regulatory compliance, and corporate social responsibility to lessen their carbon footprint. Businesses may establish themselves as industry leaders in a society that is becoming more conscious of morality and environmental responsibility by adopting sustainable practices. By doing this, businesses ensure a sustainable future for their own operations in addition to making a positive impact on a healthier world.

My name is Thomas Stitt, a native to a small town in northern New Jersey, currently navigating the challenges and triumphs of being an college student and active competitor of the men's track and field at Susquehanna University. My journey here has been marked by difficulties, but the support of generous individuals has shaped me into the well-rounded man I am becoming. Raised by a resilient single father, I am one of three sons who witnessed firsthand the perseverance required to navigate financial difficulties and the absence of my mother. My father's determination taught me that hard work can overcome any disadvantage, a lesson that has fueled my approach to challenges, making me believe in the limitless possibilities ahead. I am also well aware of the privilege I hold in overcoming learning and physical disabilities, particularly being on the autism spectrum. Reflecting on these challenges, I see each opportunity as a blessing and a chance to make the most of the slim odds that brought me here. I am closest with my father as he is the greatest role model I have ever had. During my childhood, he never gave up on me when I think many easily could’ve. Despite his extensive work schedule, he always made time for me in all regards. Whether that was my participation in sports at a young age, school, relationships, or our shared love for watching New York football. Any issue or experience I come across. He still continues to be my number 1 support as I embark on my sophomore Track and field season. Track wasn't initially the sport I thought would become my passion, But In middle school, spurred by reflections on my older brother's positive experiences, I decided to give track a chance. As a result, the Pole event resonated with me almost immediately, challenging me in ways I hadn't experienced before, requiring both athletic and psychological aptitude. The unique community within track and field, balancing competitiveness with camaraderie, drew me in and solidified my commitment to the sport. Thriving on passion and coupled with a mentality of gratitude, I found myself excelling and securing the opportunity to continue at the collegiate level. Choosing a school within a reasonable price range, considering my family's financial difficulties, was crucial. However, the commitment to excel in both academics and athletics at a prestigious institution drives me to put my best foot forward. Bearing in mind the unwavering support from my father and others, I am compelled to work towards a position where I can give back. This commitment has led me to pursue a major in accounting, a field with the potential to provide a wide variety of impact on a professional and financial level. My goal is to give back to those who have supported me and others facing similar challenges. Whether through scholarships like the one or by creating affordable resources for education, athletics, or basic needs such as food and utilities, I am determined to make a meaningful impact.

As I embark on my college journey, I reflect on the uncertainties with my decision regarding a major and career path. Prior to enrolling in college, I grappled with various considerations such as satisfaction, sustainability, and personal fulfillment. While exploring different possibilities, the prospect of pursuing a career in accounting initially eluded me. However, as I delved deeper into the subject and gained a comprehensive understanding of its intricacies, I quickly realized the immense potential and opportunities that lie within the field. I am driven by the prospect of joining a respected profession that carries immense responsibility, serving as a trusted advisor to companies and individuals in planning and reaching their financial goals. Accounting encompasses principles that resonate with my personal values and aspirations. In particular, I am drawn to the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), which form the foundation of the profession. These principles ensure the integrity, transparency, and accuracy of financial statements. By adhering to these principles, accountants uphold their commitment to being honest, transparent, and respectful in carrying out their essential responsibilities. Embracing and upholding these principles as I work towards becoming a CPA is a personal aspiration, I hold dear. As I venture into my career as an accountant and future CPA, I feel a profound sense of humility and privilege. The applications and fundamental concepts of accounting are key drivers of a company's profitability and overall success. It is essential to me that my career serves a greater purpose, aligning with companies that are committed to making a positive impact on society. I am particularly inspired by companies like Toms or Bombas, which integrate accounting practices to generate donations and contribute to noble causes. Witnessing the influence of accounting in promoting social good further motivates me to pursue this path. Accountants play a hugely important role in both the corporate world and the general public; thus, their participation is vitally essential. Accountants are the financial backbone of firms, guaranteeing precise record-keeping, conducting financial analysis, and offering priceless insights. Businesses can analyze performance, manage resources wisely, and make educated choices thanks to their experience. Accountants protect financial integrity by ensuring rules are followed and encouraging transparency. They are essential to establishing and sustaining a company's reputation in the eyes of stakeholders and the public. They stand out as important pillars of the financial industry due to their moral behavior and dedication to preserving honesty. Moreover, I am fascinated by the prospect of engaging in investigative or auditing roles within the field. Despite my reserved nature, I am acutely aware of the power that lies behind the numbers. As the saying goes, "Numbers don't lie." I recognize the importance of applying my competency and knowledge to uncover financial discrepancies, ensure compliance, and maintain the highest ethical standards. The ability to provide insights and guide companies through financial challenges underscores the strength and impact of the accounting profession. Throughout my college experience, I am impressed by the academic programs and internship opportunities that accounting offers. The opportunity to learn from experienced professors and mentors who will guide me in my pursuit of becoming a CPA is invaluable. I eagerly anticipate the challenges and growth that await me on this demanding yet rewarding journey. In conclusion, my passion for accounting grows stronger each day. The prospect of becoming an accountant and ultimately earning the designation of CPA fills me with a deep sense of purpose and determination. I am committed to embodying the principles of the profession, making a positive impact, and upholding the highest ethical standards. With enthusiasm, dedication, and continuous learning.

In a world with a staggering population of 8 billion people, it takes a lot to call yourself a maverick. Standing out and defying the societal norms established by such a vast populace can seem daunting. However, I think everyone has the potential to be contrasting because each of us possesses a unique set of qualities and circumstances that can be leveraged to create something exceptional. The key though is what you do with the gift you’ve been given. Live with the intention that writes your life story with variety and full of experiences. Being open to new horizons and living life to its fullest will help someone grow much more. Instead of being lured by the traps of wealth, clout, comfort, pleasure, and a career, to name a few. After experiencing many shortcomings, I too realized that I could be a maverick. For a long time, I followed others into new challenges and changed who I was to please them. This process was extremely unhealthy and destroyed my sense of self. I lost track of who I was and what my purpose was in this world. Despite my fear of being different, I reached a point of realization that this is not how I should be living my life. I learned that the more I tried to change my persona, the more frustrating times were. From then on, I was determined to rediscover myself and live my own way. My goal is now to make a substantial difference while being the best version of my unique self. This mindset has helped me reach high achievements and get through great challenges. One of the first places I discovered my flaw and be able to shift my mindset to overcome a great challenge was the road to becoming a collegiate athlete. Coaches and mentors made me realize that I couldn't achieve my goals while following others that are constantly seeking comfort and never taking accountability. In order to come out on top, you have to do the work that no one else is doing. When I started instilling this in my training, I was getting results that others weren’t. I was finally excelling in athletics and academics. Ultimately guiding me to excel in many other facets of life. After witnessing how much can be gained from doing things differently, I thought to myself, how can I do more differently? Growing up, I was raised by a single father who had limited resources. Despite our financial struggles, my father always made it a point to help others and give back to the community. So I took it upon myself to carry out that initiative and demonstrate the power of doing things your own way. Consequently, I have already accumulated over 100 services in the last 2 years. Yet, the impact has left me wanting to do more unique actions. It has also shifted my career goals from getting a traditional job for myself towards more of an entrepreneur that fuels service-based programs and makes a difference. I am driven to work and live in my own way that only I love, while making an impact on people around the world.

A vital part of total well being is mental health. It affects our opinions, social connections, and hopes for the future. Although my experience with mental health has been difficult, it has also influenced my values and goals. My battles with anxiety and depression as a child had an impact on how I interacted with other people. I had a hard time connecting with others and being vulnerable. However, I discovered coping skills to control my anxiety and difficulties through counseling. I was able to develop deep connections with others and speak up more about my issues as a result. I came to understand how crucial it is to ask for assistance when necessary and to not be ashamed of mental health problems. remember the specific instance when I made the step for help and change was at the beginning of high school. I was having anxiety problems. Making friends and interacting with others was challenging for me. One day, I accepted an invitation to a party extended by some of my classmates in an effort to come out of my shell. But as soon as I got there, my worry took control, and I found myself sitting by myself in a corner, unable to take pleasure in the celebration. I ultimately left early and was dejected. I learned from this experience that I needed to get support and learn coping skills to deal with my anxiety. It also showed me how crucial it is to move outside of my comfort zone and take baby steps toward my goals. Ever since I decided to get help, my life drastically changed for the better and has been influenced in more ways than one. For example, I’ve taken mental health as a major consideration for my future career goals. As of now, my field of study is accounting. However, I’d like to incorporate ideas and knowledge from a field like psychology, so that I can support people who are experiencing mental health problems or life struggles in general. I want to inspire and create a secure environment where people can share their challenges and get the coping skills they need to take control of their situations. I think that mental health is an important part of overall welfare and that it has to be treated carefully. My understanding of the value of self-care has also been informed by my experience with mental health. I've discovered how important it is to look after one's physical and emotional health. Self-care involves getting enough rest, maintaining a nutritious diet, and taking part in enjoyable and relaxing activities. When dealing with mental health concerns, it is simple to put self-care last, but I have come to realize how important it is to give it top priority. In summary, my experience with mental health has shaped my values, interpersonal connections, and job goals. It has taught me the value of asking for assistance when necessary, of not hiding mental health problems, and of placing self-care first. I want to improve the lives of others who are battling with mental health difficulties by using my experience to aid them. This goal can be accomplished and a beneficial impact on society with using my strong suits as well as knowledge that can be gained from a field like psychology
