Hello! My name is Thomas Case Jr. I am a 2024 graduate from Spalding High School. I was a freshman when Covid hit. It was hard, I struggled with at home learning. It took years of hard work to recover and bring my grades back up to the respectful 3.0. I have learned that all hard work pays off. I have also learned that I learn better in person than online.
I am the first male in 7 generations to go to college and the first male in my family to graduate high school. I have a lot to learn and a lot to prove. My mother and father never graduated high school and have stressed the importance of an education.
I played football for all 4 years of high school. I played offensive line for Junior Varsity for 2 years and offensive line, defensive line, and special teams for Varsity the last 2 years. Football has taught me the importance of being part of a team and how to be a team player.
My coaches have taught me the importance of grades, setting examples, being respectful, having a routine, being disciplined, hardwork, and a family. I have spent the last 4 years building relationships that will last a lifetime.
I have been accepted into Columbus State University and will begin the Fall 2024 semester. My hope is to become a Game Warden for the State of Georgia or Deputy Sheriff for the Spalding County Sheriff's Department.
My family has been an outdoors family since I was little. We spent time camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, and swimming in almost all the state parks in GA. This has given me a deep love for the outside world and all it takes to keep it up for generations to come.
I have helped for the past 8 years, planting, growing, harvesting, and canning a garden. This has helped to feed 4 families (including mine). I have watched seeds turn to food with a little help from humans and a lot of help from mother nature. To see what the earth can provide and how to help others learn is a passion.
I will be using my love and respect for the law to earn a Criminal Justice Degree. I want to learn all I can about the ins and outs of the law. I believe the more knowledge you have about ANYTHING, the more you will be able to respect and help others understand.
I plan to volunteer at the state park in Columbus, GA, to gain experience. I will also volunteer on campus with campus security to gain knowledge.
I will be working to pay for my tuition (work study) in the school's athletic department. I will be living on campus to make sure I am available to learn all that I can and experience all that I can.
Thank you for taking the time to consider me for this scholarship. I hope what you have learned about me helps in that decision.

Biff McGhee Memorial Scholarship
WinnerHi, my name is Thomas Case. I am entering my freshman year of college at Columbus State University. I am the fisrt male member of my family to graduate High School. I will be the first male member of my family to attend college for the past 7 generations.
I will be studying Criminal Justice in the hopes to be Game Warden for the state of Georgia. I have been an avid outdoor lover since I was born. I have been camping, fishing, hunting, hiking and gardening for as long as I can remember. I have spent many years doing anything and everything outdoors.
Outside is my happy place, my peaceful place. My family has camped in tents every summer for weeks at a time. It has been something the entire family has committed to. We would spend the days on the lake fishing, swimming, floating and the evenings around a camp fire. The outdoors are a reflection of my family and all our time together.
I have played any sport that would keep me outside. I have played football, was in track and fields for all 4 years. Helped out in concessions for baseball and soccer.
For the past 8 years I have helped plant, maintain and eat out of a vegetable garden. We have grown, harvested and froze vegetables for 4 families. The outdoors is not only a place to have fun but a way to provide nurishment.
I want to be a Game Warden to help protect the outdoors that I love. To educate others on the importance of keeping the outdoors clean amd following the laws. I believe that the more everyone knows and understands about the outdoors, will make them a better person for the life of our planet.
I want to learn all I can about the outdoors, animals, plants and bugs that help make outdoors such a wonderful place. The reasons behind the laws and regulations, the way everything outside works together.
I am pursuing Criminal Justice not only as a way to become a Game Warden but also with the understanding that I may serve in the Sheriff's Department. I am a stickler for laws and regulations and look forward to my career in either field.
Thank you for taking the time to read and learn about my passion for the outdoors. I hope this will help in the decision to consider me for this scholarship.
