I believe that a career in law is the most effective way that I can help people. All I’ve ever wanted to do is help my community and other vulnerable communities. There is only so much that you can do with donating money or time. Nearly every issue that I see in our society comes down to issues with the law, whether it is the legal and justice system needing to be changed or needing to increase access and understanding of our legal system.
Coming from such a hardworking family and experiencing poverty for most of my life has also allowed me to understand many different walks of life, people's everyday struggles, how to help others, and led me to develop a strong empathy for others.
I strive to truly understand the systemic issues that surround us and to find the best way to effectively help and create long-lasting sustainable change. I want to be an inspiration for those who have never had a role model in the legal field and educate high school and undergraduate students on the opportunities that are available to them to further their education in law and enter the legal field.
I am very passionate about environmental justice and protection. There is so much suffering caused by pollution and over consumption of our natural resources. Animals and nature suffer as they struggle to find shelter, food, water and navigate our growing cities and highways. But people also suffer, people in many countries rely on heavily polluted bodies of water for their drinking water, cooking and bathing. Our storms and weather patterns have become more and more severe as we put more stress on our natural systems. Hurricanes, droughts, wildfires, extreme heat, floods, are taking many lives and destroying communities in their path. Helping put policies in place that help people and the planet is a major goal for me. We as everyday people don’t have to change very much, we do not cause the majority of our environmental degradation, the change needs to come from holding major corporations responsible to do their part.
I am also very passionate about immigration law. Many people look to the United States as a place of hope and safety for their family. People continue to come every single day and the more help there is to process people the better our country will be. Our country is built on the hard work of immigrants and the more people that are able to come here documented the better it is for everyone. When the system isn’t working and people aren’t able to come through legal routes people will still come no matter what, because coming here illegally is usually much better compared to where they're fleeing from. Coming from a background of Puerto Rican and Irish immigrants I am very thankful for the hard work my ancestors have done to travel to this country and give me a better chance at a good future.
