Bio

My objective in pursuing a doctoral degree is to catalyze positive transformations within my community by offering both a model and inspiration to individuals who perceive aspects of their identity reflected in mine. My community is diverse, encompassing African Americans, caregivers of individuals with special needs, single mothers, and non-traditional students. My ambition extends to providing comprehensive mental health services that cater to the entire community, transcending those who might share my specific interests. The decision to specialize my graduate studies in clinical mental health with a focus on caregiver counseling was deliberate, driven by a recognition of the unique needs within this demographic. Furthermore, I am acutely aware of the historical mistrust among African Americans towards mental health services, a skepticism rooted in past medical experimentation on African American communities and persistent healthcare disparities affecting people of color. By exemplifying success and empathy as someone who shares their experiences and has achieved the pinnacle of academic qualification in mental health, I aim to challenge and dismantle the stigma associated with seeking mental health support, particularly the apprehension that stems from a perceived lack of relatable practitioners.
