I am a veteran with over ten years of service in the Air Force. I am seeking funding to help pay for my professional pilot degree/certifications. My life goal is to be a professional aviator. I have loved aviation since I was five years old. My grandma and aunt were flight attendants who took me to different locations yearly. Seeing the world from the skies gave me a humbling perspective on life's beauty from 30,000 feet. I am very passionate about helping people. My mentor told me to be something other than a gatekeeper of knowledge. As I continue to gain an understanding of topics, I will pass it down to the next generation. I am a great candidate because your support won't go in vain. I am hard-working and determined to reach my career goals.

Growing up in Syracuse, New York, and loving aviation is a unique experience deeply rooted in the city's history. It has been influenced by key figures who have made significant contributions to the aviation field. Syracuse, known for its rich aviation history, has been home to many influential individuals who have shaped how we view aviation today. As a boy, I remember going to the airport and watching airplanes take off and land. I always wanted to see them come out of the cloud for a smooth landing. It's very cloudy in Syracuse, so clouds are very intense. I went through most of my teenage life without scratching the itch of pursuing flying. I put self-doubt on myself because I listen to others who say flying is too complicated and even more expensive. I wanted to join the Air Force as an aviator to get closer to flying. I took and remarkably failed the officer test. It was a massive blow to my ego. I spent a lot of time practicing and looking at different figures to give myself a chance. As aviation started to slip again, I enlisted in the Air Force. It was one of the best decisions of my life. I saw the world in a different light and met incredible people. Stationing at different bases allowed me to see various types of aircraft. My favorite was still is the CV-22. I got an opportunity to do a fly-over in Greenbay. It was so calming to see 69,000 people from 3,000 ft up. As the years passed, I just put aviation as a flying commercial without being a pilot. Covid hit, and I had a lot of time to reflect on my life. I wanted to give myself one more chance of being a pilot. I called a few local schools, and they told me there was an opportunity for me to attend school if I wanted to use my VA benefits—unfortunately, the school I wanted to go to previously closed its doors. I tried again, and I was able to get connected with the Community College of Baltimore, which explained the process of being an aviation pilot. I enrolled in the fall of 2023 and now have my private pilot license. School is expensive, and this scholarship will help me continue my journey of working for the airlines. I will be the person who a kid will see descending from the clouds. I display leadership in how I carry myself. I never ask for the leadership title, but I provide direct or indirect direction to people. When asked, I tell my story of being a kid from Syracuse and not letting life stop me from dreaming. I wouldn’t be where I am now without someone guiding me, so that is what I aim for providing knowledge to others.
    Future of Aviation Scholarship
Aviation has been my passion ever since I was a child. The thrill of being up in the sky, feeling weightless and free, has always captivated me. When I was younger, I knew I wanted to be a pilot, going to the airport and watching planes take off into the sunset. Now, as a college undergraduate student pursuing a degree in aviation, I am determined to turn my passion into a successful career. My professional aviation goals are clear, and I plan to achieve them. I am thankful to the people I have come into contact with for providing advice and networking opportunities. One of my main goals is to become a commercial pilot for a major airline. I understand I need to obtain my pilot's license, build up flight hours, and gain experience flying different aircraft types to achieve this goal. I am enrolled in a flight training program at the Community College of Baltimore County, where I am learning the necessary skills and knowledge to become a competent pilot. I am dedicated to excelling in training and earning my pilot's license quickly. In addition to obtaining my pilot's license, I am working towards earning a degree in aviation. I believe that having a solid education in aviation will make me a better pilot and open up opportunities for advancement in the industry. To round out my education, I am taking aviation management, safety, operations, and general education courses. I currently have a 3.7 GPA. I am heaving into my sophomore year of school. Another one of my professional aviation goals is to become a certified flight instructor. Becoming a flight instructor will help me build up flight hours and allow me to share my passion for aviation with others. Working with my CFI, I understand how important it is to have someone to teach the foundation of aviation streamline success. I plan to complete the necessary training and certification requirements in college. I am excited about teaching others how to fly and helping them achieve their aviation goals. My plan to achieve my professional aviation goals is to stay focused, work hard, and never give up. Becoming a commercial pilot is challenging, but I am determined to succeed. I am constantly seeking opportunities to gain more experience and knowledge in aviation, whether through internships, networking events, or additional training. I am confident that with dedication and perseverance, I will be able to achieve my dreams of becoming a commercial pilot and making a successful career in the aviation industry.

Growing up, I faced numerous financial struggles that shaped my understanding of money, responsibility, and perseverance. These challenges helped me learn valuable lessons about budgeting, saving, and investing. In this essay, I will discuss the historical context of financial struggles, their impact on me, and the influential individuals who have contributed to understanding and overcoming such difficulties. I came from a one-parent home; my mom was unable to provide financial help for many needs I had as a youth, so I had to find odd jobs or give plasma to assist me. I didn’t know how bad we had it until I came home, and the landlord told me we were evicted because of too many missed payments. I faced financial struggles due to various factors, such as job loss, unexpected expenses, and lack of financial literacy. These challenges forced me to reevaluate my spending habits, set financial goals, and make sacrifices to stay afloat. I learned that money doesn't grow on trees and that economic security requires discipline, patience, and long-term planning. Even though I didn’t have money, I didn’t let it stop me from dreaming. I dreamed of being a pilot for airlines. One of the few things I could do for free was watch planes take off and land at my local airport. Overall, the impact of financial struggles on my life has been both challenging and transformative. While these difficulties have tested my resilience, determination, and creativity, they have also taught me valuable lessons about the importance of financial literacy, planning, and discipline. By facing these challenges head-on, I have become more confident, independent, and knowledgeable about managing my money and securing my financial future. Looking ahead, I believe that the field of understanding and overcoming financial struggles will continue to evolve and adapt to the changing economic landscape. With advances in technology, improved access to financial education, and a growing awareness of the importance of financial wellness, more people will have the tools and resources they need to navigate economic challenges and build a secure future for themselves and their families. One of the most compelling reasons a scholarship can help me give back to my community is by enabling me to acquire the education and skills needed to make a difference. It's essential to pay your blessing forward. Education is often seen as a powerful tool for social mobility, as it can open doors to better opportunities and help individuals reach their full potential. By providing financial support for education, scholarships can make it possible for me to be an example for those who might think it's possible to achieve their goals based on their situation. One thing I always was fond of was postage stamps. I was excited to get a stamp and see different images, for example, the American flag, Martin Luther King Jr., and an airplane. To help people understand stamps, I would start with their importance and history. In the 1800s, stamp I paved the way for the postal service to recover costs and improve the speed of mail delivery. Every current concept of delivery had a break-off from stamps.

Joining the Air Force in 2013, I never thought of being affected by PTSD. Being young, I was naïve to believe I was invincible to anything mentally. 2014 everything changed, and my life would never be the same again. I was severely hurt physically, but mentally, I was worse. In the beginning, I was proud to ask for help because I thought it was seen as a weakness. As a person living with PTSD, I have learned a great deal about myself and the world around me. PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder, is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It is a complex disorder that can profoundly impact various aspects of a person's life, including their relationships, work, and overall well-being. In this essay, I will explore what I have learned about my PTSD and the world around me, including the historical context, key figures, impact, influential individuals in the field, and potential future developments. One of the most important things I have learned about my PTSD is the importance of self-awareness and self-care. Living with PTSD can be challenging, as it can bring up painful memories and emotions. It is essential to deeply understand one's triggers and coping mechanisms to manage symptoms effectively. Through therapy and self-reflection, I have learned how to recognize when I am experiencing symptoms of PTSD and how to practice self-care to alleviate distress. Furthermore, I have gained insight into the historical context of PTSD and how it has been understood and treated over time. PTSD was first recognized as a formal diagnosis in the aftermath of the Vietnam War when veterans began to exhibit symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, and hypervigilance. Before this, PTSD was often overlooked or misdiagnosed, leading to inadequate treatment for those suffering from the disorder. The acknowledgment of PTSD as a legitimate mental health condition has paved the way for more effective treatments and support services for individuals living with the disorder. Key figures in the field of PTSD research and treatment have played a crucial role in advancing our understanding of the disorder and developing evidence-based interventions. One such figure is Dr. Judith Herman, a renowned psychiatrist and trauma expert who has made significant contributions to the field of PTSD. Dr. Herman's groundbreaking work on trauma and recovery has helped to shape the way we approach PTSD treatment, emphasizing the importance of addressing the underlying trauma to achieve lasting healing. The impact of what I have learned about my PTSD and the world around me has been profound. I have come to appreciate the resilience of individuals living with mental health conditions and the importance of promoting understanding and empathy for those who are struggling. By sharing my own experiences with PTSD, I hope to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues. I have also learned the importance of self-advocacy and seeking support from others who can provide guidance and validation—saying to veterans that it's okay to seek help because we are not alone. I received this advice to help me take the 1st step of seeking help and starting my road to recovery.

Freedom of speech Freedom of speech is a fundamental right that plays a crucial role in the functioning of a democratic society. It allows individuals to freely express their opinions, ideas, and beliefs without fear of censorship or persecution. The historical origins and development of freedom of speech can be traced back to ancient civilizations such as Ancient Greece and Rome. In Ancient Greece, Athens was known for its democratic system, where citizens had the right to participate in public discussions and debates. This concept laid the foundation for the notion of free expression. Similarly, during the Roman Republic, there were instances where citizens were allowed to voice their thoughts and criticisms openly. However, during the Enlightenment period in Europe, freedom of speech gained significant momentum. Thinkers such as John Locke and Voltaire emphasized the importance of this freedom as a cornerstone of individual liberty. Their writings influenced subsequent movements like the American Revolution and French Revolution, which further cemented the idea that free expression is essential for a just society. Freedom of speech is vital for a functioning democratic society as it allows diverse opinions to be expressed openly. In a democracy, people have different perspectives on various issues ranging from politics to social matters. With freedom of speech, these differing viewpoints would be heard and considered by decision-makers, leading to an imbalance in power dynamics. Moreover, freedom of speech promotes transparency, accountability, and participation within a democratic framework. It enables citizens to hold their governments accountable by criticizing policies or actions they deem unjust or unfair. Through open dialogue and debate facilitated by this right, societies can address societal problems effectively and make informed decisions collectively. Individual empowerment is another critical aspect associated with freedom of speech. When individuals can express themselves freely without fear or intimidation, they gain confidence in their voices. This fosters personal growth, self-expression, and creativity since people are encouraged to explore new ideas without restrictions. However, there may be limitations or challenges when exercising this right. Speech that incites violence or promotes hate speech can be restricted, as it threatens individuals' safety and well-being. Striking a balance between protecting free expression and preventing harm is an ongoing societal challenge. Furthermore, freedom of speech contributes significantly to social progress and innovation. Throughout history, many positive changes have been brought about by individuals who dared to challenge existing norms through their words. For example, activists like Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Malala Yousafzai used their voices to advocate for civil rights, equality, and education, respectively. Allowing dissenting opinions in society is crucial as it encourages critical thinking and pushes boundaries. By challenging established ideas or practices, innovation can flourish. Scientific advancements are only possible with the freedom for researchers to question prevailing theories and propose new ones. In conclusion, freedom of speech is essential in maintaining a free and democratic society. It has its historical roots in ancient civilizations but gained prominence during the Enlightenment. Freedom of speech enables diverse opinions to be expressed openly, contributing to transparency, accountability, and participation within democracies. It empowers individuals by allowing their personal growth, self-expression creativity. Moreover, it leads to social progress through positive change sparked by dissenting opinions. However, limitations exist, such as restrictions on incitement of violence or promoting hate speech, which poses safety threats. Society must strike a balance between protecting this right while also ensuring that harm is prevented.

Recognizing the potential impact of adverse effects on one's character has allowed me to forge relationships with individuals with similar values and ambitions. This intentional choice cultivates an environment conducive to personal growth and fosters meaningful connections. V. Conclusion In conclusion, while it may seem unconventional for someone incarcerated to serve as a role model, my dad has defied expectations by imparting invaluable life lessons from behind bars. V Overcoming Adversity Despite my numerous challenges, I have demonstrated resilience and resourcefulness in my quest to overcome adversity. Success stories abound within this community, highlighting the indomitable spirit of individuals who have risen above their circumstances. Community initiatives such as mentorship programs, scholarships, or vocational training can provide crucial support systems to uplift individuals from impoverished backgrounds. Moreover, policies that address systemic inequalities and provide equal access to educational and employment opportunities can contribute to breaking the cycle of poverty. VI Conclusion The issue of African Americans, including myself growing up in poverty is complex and deeply rooted. Historical factors such as systemic racism and discrimination have perpetuated this cycle. This demographic's socioeconomic challenges are profound, affecting education, healthcare access, and employment opportunities. Furthermore, the psychological impact cannot be ignored; it erodes self-esteem and overall well-being. However, despite these obstacles, I have exemplified resilience through various success stories and community initiatives to uplift those from impoverished backgrounds. Moving forward requires a comprehensive approach that addresses historical injustices while implementing policies promoting equal opportunity for all. By acknowledging the lasting impact of poverty on the path of African Americans and working collectively toward change, we can strive for a more equitable society where everyone has an equal chance to thrive regardless of their economic background or racial identity.

Obstacles in life Obstacles in Pursuing Higher Education: Overcoming Challenges to Give Back I. Introduction Pursuing higher education is often accompanied by various obstacles and challenges hindering one's progress. These obstacles pose significant barriers to individuals seeking to improve their lives through education. However, it is crucial to acknowledge these hurdles and develop strategies to overcome them to succeed academically. As a student, I have encountered numerous obstacles on my journey towards higher education. Financial constraints have been a significant hurdle, as tuition, textbooks, and other essential resources can overwhelm many students. Additionally, balancing work commitments with academic responsibilities has posed a significant challenge in managing time effectively. II. Obstacles in Pursuit of Higher Education Financial difficulties are not exclusive to me; they affect countless individuals who aspire to pursue higher education. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), approximately 20% of undergraduate students face financial hardships that impact their ability to complete their degrees (NCES). Moreover, juggling multiple responsibilities, such as family obligations or part-time jobs, further exacerbates the challenges faced by students. To illustrate this point further, I recall my own experiences working part-time while attending college full-time. The grueling schedule drained my energy and limited my time to study and engage in extracurricular activities. This obstacle taught me important lessons about time management and perseverance. III. Utilizing Education to Give Back to the Community Despite these obstacles, I am determined to overcome them and use my education to give back to my community. By pursuing higher education, I aim to acquire knowledge and skills that will enable me to achieve personal growth and make a positive impact on society. One specific initiative aligned with my interests and skills involves volunteering at local schools where access to quality education may be limited due to socioeconomic factors or geographical location disparities. This involvement would allow me to provide students with mentorship and guidance, fostering their aspirations for higher education. IV. Conclusion In conclusion, obstacles are an inevitable part of the journey towards higher education. However, overcoming these challenges not only prepares individuals for personal success but also equips them with the tools necessary to give back to their communities. By persevering through financial constraints and time management difficulties, one can develop resilience and a strong work ethic that will enable them to make a positive impact on society. Through my experiences and future endeavors, I am committed to using my education as a vehicle for change. By addressing the barriers that hinder access to higher education and offering support and mentorship opportunities, I aim to inspire others in my community to pursue their educational goals despite any obstacles.
