Growing up being the youngest and only girl with three brothers was not easy. I was not spoiled, I had to work for everything that I earned. I was raised in my dad’s childhood home located in South East Houston.
My parents worked hard every day. My mother, a Pre-K teacher and my father was employed at FedEx. My father’s dream was to own a bar-b-q restaurant and his dream came true. Our family started out with a food truck and later owned a restaurant. Everything was going well until my father was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and passed away when I was nine years old. Going from two incomes to one put my family in a financial bind. I watched my mom struggle to put food on the table, to keep the lights on, and to provide for my brothers and I; no matter the sacrifice. After my father, my brother, Corbin was killed in my home on July 5, 2014, less than one month after he graduated from Sterling Aviation High School, My mom and I moved to Sugar Land that same night. We left the only home that I ever knew on that night and never returned. That event took a big toll on my life.
In the past few years of my life, I've struggled academically, financially, mentally, and with my stability. Meeting new people and struggling with a new curriculum and a faster pace of learning new material. My grades were rocky when we first moved; trying to make new friends that was weird because I would talk to a stop sign if you let me. My life changed a lot, now I spend my time pushing others to be the best person that they can be at Bo’s Place. My Faith, family and close friends are the reason I am who I am.
My future included attending Prairie View University in the fall. That was until the Covid-19 pandemic occurred. Right now, I am worried about finishing out the remainder of my senior year. I wonder if I will even have a prom or a traditional graduation. Once this crisis is over, I will become a freshman at Prairie View University where I plan to major in Nursing. My first two years will be done on the campus of Prairie View University in Prairie View, Texas. Upon completion, I will move to Houston to finish my last two years of Nursing School and to complete my internship. I plan to pursue a career as a Medical Surgical Nurse. My ultimate goal is to further my education and become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist or Nurse Practitioner. I would love to work in the Texas Medical Center and be a member of a team of professionals who are responsible for nursing the sick back to good health. I one day would love to find the man that God has for me and get married.
