Bio

My greatest curiosity is the human body and how its structures and functions maintain a state of good health. This curiosity prompted me to study Health and Human Performance for my Bachelor of Science. Starting this Fall of 2020 I am pursuing a Masters of Public Health to analyze health through a macroscopic lens. Public health determines how systemic operations and biological, environmental, and social determinants of health can promote or impede the health of society. My concentration at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health is Health Policy and Management and I will also achieve a certificate in Public Health Research Methods and Program Planning. My primary goal for my career will be to utilize systems thinking to improve our health systems and cultures surrounding health in order to prevent disease and promote optimal health and longevity. I hope to reduce socioeconomic, gender, and racial barriers to quality care that cause enormous health disparities around the world and within the United States. I am very dedicated to these goals and am a focused student. I know that there is much we can do to improve health in the United States and globally, and am determined to contribute to the welfare of society through the practice of public health.

My gut is home to a thousand butterflies and my knees are trembling. I cannot believe I signed up to do this, and yet I know if I turn back now, I'll always feel like I limited myself. I close my eyes, listen to the cheerful pop music, willing myself to be nervous but not afraid. It will be fun, right? He counts down from three and before I know it, I've tricked myself into running and jumping off the ledge. My heart pounds, my scream turns to hysterical laughter. Worth it? Absolutely.
