I am a senior who attends Saint Raymond for Girls High School in the Bronx. I plan to attend a four-year college in hopes of studying journalism either in publication or broadcasting and business (entrepreneurship). I aspire to become a traveling journalist, writing stories of people who have gone unseen, and start two businesses based on my two passions, rollerskating and filmmaking. I am very passionate about kids and service to my community in my free time I volunteer as an intern explainer at the New York Botanical Garden and work as a Sunday school teacher. I would make a great candidate as I always make sure to put my best foot forward, persevere with every challenge I face, and stay grateful for every lesson I receive.

Kynnedy Simone 'I Am The Dream' Scholarship
The lesson I’ve taken from my upbringing is that an act of service expands both your character and potential. That is why I’ve spent the better part of my time in high school volunteering and participating in activities that would help me to step out of my comfort zone. My community service experience includes an annual clean-up event at my local park, tutoring underclassmen, and being an intern explainer for the Children’s Everett Garden located in the New York Botanical Garden. These experiences have allowed me to value the environment and how well I take care of it for future generations. Working at the Children’s Everett Garden I’ve managed to see and bring joy to little children from quizzically answering their questions to giving them tasks that expand their imagination of what our natural resources can be used for. As far as extracurricular activities I participate in debate club, student ambassadors, book club, social media club, track (indoor and outdoor), virtual bible study run by my local church, a financial literacy program called Fast Track, National Honor Society, and Sunday school as a part-time teacher. In the past, I have served as an English speaker for a foreign exchange program called Global Talk Network which allows high school seniors to discuss American culture and language with high school girls in Vietnam. From the program, I got to learn about Vietnamese culture as far as the girl’s uniforms, fun activities, assignments/testing, school environment, and beliefs/values.

Title: Come By Sometime
I sit on the porch day and night waiting for you to come
Run if you can before the streetlights come on
But instead, I am left with a solo conversation and a pint of hope
Maybe a bar of soap
You know what I cannot stand, is to see you on the other side of the street trying to explain yourself
Extend yourself until you are no more
I see your crown is crooked
Daughter of a king but you better left unseen
Your form says you look like a shack that's been ran through
But I know that this is not you
You look tiresome, nervous, unsettled in spirit
Your friends I see are fond of you but I know they will not help you
They looking for the next train to abandon you
That's all the things I have seen from my open porch
It's always open for you to come by sometime
But you always say today's not that time
Feeling rejected and dumbfounded because you say I'm doing what's best for me
Your best will always be least without me
I know you will come to find me sometime
Today's just not that time
Instead, you are running for a little boy's attention
Distraction is all I see
Love is a word, not an action verb your vocabulary
Isn't he like the rest?
Tell me when you done with all these soul ties
Because your soul still belongs with me
I wish you would see that I'm here to stir you wrong
Be a voice of reason, a beacon of light because you seem lost in these streets
One day it hits you that you have nowhere else to be
So that's when you cross the street
sit by me
wrap your arms around me
And say today's just that time
