Loxy Burckhard Love is Kind Memorial Scholarship
Being kind is a moral of mine that I have always followed. Throughout my life, my mom has always said to me, “Kill people with kindness.” This means to be nice to people no matter how unkind they are to me. Because my mom taught me this at a very young age, I have always followed this rule and been kind to people. I do this because I know that when someone is kind to me, it definitely makes my day and makes me feel loved.
Kindness is not just words towards another person. It also shows in actions. Doing simple acts of kindness such as holding the door for someone or giving someone a hug after a long day is very rewarding. It feels good to be kind to others. Love is showing these actions. When I am kind to someone, I am showing them, love. A little love and kindness can go a very long way. I wish everyone in the world could understand the importance of being kind and loving others. By possessing these characteristics, people would be kinder to each other. I truly believe that the world would be a better place if everyone understood how to be kind and love one another.
I am known by others for regularly being kind. I am especially kind and generous to the students at my school who do not have many friends or typically get picked on. The people who don’t really have any friends are generally very nice people once I get to know them. I love getting to know these peoples’ personalities. It makes me feel great knowing that I can make someone’s day by simply saying, “Hi!” to them or by giving them a high-five in the hallway. These simple acts of kindness most definitely make these people feel loved. These acts of kindness make me feel loved as well. I love making people feel loved. It is the most rewarding feeling in the world.
In the future, I am planning on becoming a dental hygienist. I want every single patient who sits in my chair to feel loved. I am going to be extremely kind to every single patient of mine. I want to break the stigma that going to the dentist’s office is “scary” to children. When I was a child, I had a dental hygienist that was not very nice or welcoming. It felt as if he was just there to do his job. He did not care about his patients. When my mom and I switched dentist offices, I met the kindest, most loving dental hygienist that I have ever met. This completely changed my mind about going to the dentist. She has been my dental hygienist for about five years now. She even talked me into applying for a dental hygiene program in college, which I am ecstatic for! I want to be the kind face and voice that patients feel when they step into a room with me at the dentist’s office. Someday, I will break the negative stigma about dentist offices and instead, be a welcoming and loving dental hygienist.
