Bio

My name is Sydnee Rice, and I am currently a dual enrollment student at Vermilion High School and Lorain County Community College. I am taking college credit plus classes to help achieve my associate's degree in science. After I graduate I plan on getting my master's in psychology. Specifically, I would like to be a sports psychologist or a cross-cultural psychologist. I have played soccer and basketball most of my life but I am unable to because of traumatic brain injuries and I suffer from gastroparesis. Although I have had these setbacks I continue to do my best and I strive for greatness in everything I do.

Living with an autoimmune disease has been an intricate and transformative journey that has profoundly shaped the person I am today. From the initial shock of diagnosis to the daily challenges of managing my health, this experience has become a crucible for personal growth, resilience, and the discovery of inner strength. Living with an autoimmune disease demands a constant dance with resilience. The unpredictable nature of flare-ups and the daily management of symptoms are formidable challenges. I am constantly at appointments or stuck in the hospital for surgery or procedures. However, each hurdle became an opportunity to cultivate resilience. I learned to adapt to the ebb and flow of my health, discovering a wellspring of inner strength that I didn't know existed. My journey has transformed me into a resilient individual capable of weathering storms with grace and determination. Rather than succumbing to the limitations imposed by my autoimmune disease, I chose to turn my struggle into strength. The daily battles with fatigue, pain, and uncertainty became opportunities for self-discovery and empowerment. I delved into understanding my condition, equipping myself with knowledge to actively participate in my healthcare. This empowerment not only transformed my relationship with my illness but also allowed me to advocate for others facing similar struggles. Living with an autoimmune disease has heightened my sense of empathy and compassion. Having experienced the isolation and misunderstanding that can accompany chronic illness, I am acutely aware of the importance of support and understanding. This firsthand knowledge has inspired me to reach out to others in the autoimmune community, creating connections and fostering a sense of camaraderie. My struggle has become a bridge to connect with others, offering a listening ear, a source of understanding, and a wellspring of compassion. I have used my social media platforms to share about my chronic illness. When I was first diagnosed, I started researching on TikTok and found an influencer who also struggled with Gastroparesis. It was very comforting seeing someone I could relate to. When I had my feeding tube placed, I was very nervous. I had messaged her on Instagram. She responded and explained the whole process and gave me a lot of hope for my disease. Now when I share videos about my tube feedings or hospital visits many other people suffering message me. Being able to share my experiences and help them not be as afraid is an amazing feeling.
