Teachers are often on the front lines when it comes to interacting with students daily. This puts us in a unique position to notice changes in behavior, mood, or performance that may indicate underlying mental health issues. Unfortunately, not all teachers are adequately trained to recognize or respond to these signs. This gap in knowledge and training can leave students without the support they need during critical times.
I believe that all future educators should be trained to handle mental health issues. This training should encompass recognizing the signs of mental health struggles, knowing how to provide initial support, and understanding when and how to refer students to professional help. As students, we were expected to continuously perform at our best, without much consideration for our emotional and psychological well-being.
I believe that acknowledging students' needs for balance and rest can significantly enhance their overall well-being and academic performance.
