Bio

Hi, I'm Staci. I currently work as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant for my local school district. I help general education and special education students to be as independent as possible within their educational environment. Each student has their own individual set of goals to work on. OT in the school district covers a wide variety of skill sets, ranging from fine motor to visual motor.  I started my OT career in New York, where I grew up, in 2011, working in skilled nursing. I wanted to travel and obtained licenses in PA, NC, and TX to make that happen. My first travel assignment was  a rural town in central PA. Long story short, I ended up meeting my now-husband and never went on to travel. It is funny how life works! As much as I'd like to further my career in OT, the system does not make it convenient. There are no schools in the state of Pennsylvania that offer the OTA-to-OTR bridge program. This program takes you from an associate degree level (OTA, to a master degree level (OTR.  The closest college that offers this bridge program is four hours away. I would have to physically go to classes every third weekend of every month on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for three years!  The bachelor's in educational science will allow me to get emergency certified for a teaching position. I will be able to keep the nine years I have already invested in the retirement system and further my career!

RonranGlee Special Needs Teacher Literary Scholarship
The quote by Professor Harold Bloom, "The purpose of teaching is to bring the student to his or her sense of his or her own presence," resonates deeply with me. This means helping students understand their unique value and capabilities. As a special education teacher, my mission is to guide my students to realize their potential and embrace their individuality. At Grand Canyon University, where I am majoring in Education, I have learned that every student has their own way of learning and expressing themselves. My goal is to create a classroom where each student feels valued and understood. By using personalized teaching strategies, I can help my students see their own strengths and talents. This, in turn, will help them build confidence and a sense of self-worth. One way I plan to achieve this is by fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom environment. I will use a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles and needs. For example, I will incorporate visual aids, hands-on activities, and technology to make lessons more engaging and accessible. I will also encourage open communication and collaboration among students to promote a sense of community and mutual respect. To illustrate my mission, I would like to share a brief fairy tale. In this story, I am the heroine, guiding my students to discover their own presence. Once upon a time, in a small village, there was a group of children with unique abilities. They were often misunderstood and felt out of place. One day, a young teacher named Staci arrived in the village. She saw the potential in each child and decided to create a special school just for them. Staci used her knowledge and creativity to design lessons that matched each child's needs. She encouraged them to explore their interests and express themselves freely. Slowly, the children began to realize their own strengths. They discovered that they could achieve great things, despite their differences. With Staci's support, they grew more confident and proud of who they were. In this fairy tale, the children represent my future students, and I am the teacher who helps them find their sense of presence. My passion for special education drives me to create an environment where every student can thrive. By focusing on their individual strengths and fostering a supportive classroom, I believe I can help my students realize their full potential and embrace their unique identities.
    Mental Health Importance Scholarship
My name is Staci Landis, and I am a rising senior majoring in Education at Grand Canyon University. I believe my mental health is important because it is vital to my success in life. Without good mental health, I would struggle to achieve my academic goals, maintain relationships, and enjoy life. As a future educator, I understand that my mental wellness directly impacts my ability to support and inspire my students. Maintaining my mental wellness is a priority for me. I make time for myself and the things I enjoy, which helps me stay balanced and focused. One way I do this is by setting aside time each day for activities that bring me joy. Whether it is reading a book, going for a walk, or spending time with friends, these moments allow me to recharge and reset. I also enjoy creative activities like painting and writing, which provide a healthy outlet for my emotions and stress. Another important aspect of maintaining my mental wellness is staying organized and managing my time effectively. As a college student with a 3.8 GPA, I have a busy schedule filled with classes, assignments, and extracurricular activities. By keeping a planner and setting realistic goals, I can stay on top of my responsibilities without feeling overwhelmed. This helps reduce stress and allows me to focus on what is most important. I also believe in the power of physical activity to support mental health. Regular exercise, whether it is a workout at the gym or a yoga session at home, helps me manage stress and improve my mood. Physical activity releases endorphins, which are natural mood lifters, and it gives me a sense of accomplishment. It is a simple yet effective way to take care of my mental health. In addition to these strategies, I make sure to connect with others and seek support when needed. Talking to friends, family, or a counselor provides me with different perspectives and helps me process my feelings. It is important to remember that I do not have to face challenges alone, and reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Lastly, I practice mindfulness and self-reflection. Taking a few moments each day to meditate or simply breathe deeply helps me stay grounded and present. Reflecting on my experiences and emotions allows me to understand myself better and make positive changes when needed. In conclusion, my mental health is crucial to my overall well-being and success. By making time for myself, staying organized, exercising, connecting with others, and practicing mindfulness, I maintain my mental wellness. These habits not only help me thrive as a student but also prepare me to be a supportive and effective educator in the future. Thank you for considering my application for the Mental Health Importance Scholarship.
