Since I was young I've always had a connection to art. With the support of my mother, I illustrated books that had wild stories, made a fashion line of recycled plastic bags, and performed Grammy-worthy operas all in a 200 square foot living room and one clap from the audience sitting with a bright smile on their face. Different forms of art such as these carried on from childhood and into adulthood and helped me cope with many issues in my life including mental health. Growing up, all i have had to witness on mental health care was getting put in a mental institute after a suicide attempt from my teen older sister and my fifth-grade little sister after she was kidnapped and abused. What kind of support is that? From the lack of knowledge of what to do and the lack of resources to help, my mother could only do so much. After begging her to not send me to the psychiatric ward as well, I had to find my outlet. I turned to writing blogs and joining theater and art club for help. Because of the lack of resources in many communities, I want to create an art hub for anyone struggling with mental health. They can join at any age and there would be programs on specific days and times to cater to specific demographics and/or artistic endeavors to make sure everyone in the community is catered to.
