Hello! My name is Sophia Papadopulos. As an avid reader, it is one of the things I love to do the most. I’ve noticed that in my day to day life, I’ve found much inspiration through pages of books, and the vast stories within, just waiting to be explored. Writing has also been quite the creative outlet of mine. I’ve learned to construct my thoughts and ideas into developed stories, as well as present myself with confidence and surety. Community service has also been really impactful in my life--from being a dedicated Girl Scout, to volunteer youth AYSO referee, to being a coach at the Titan Basketball Academy at my high school. These experiences have influenced me to understand the value in giving back, and stimulating meaningful connections in my community. Furthermore, music is another way through which I get the opportunity to experience diversity and gather new perspectives, through discovering new genres or going to concerts. Finally, social justice truly is the thing that inspires me the most--especially when it comes to my future career, hopefully one as an attorney. Championing for women’s rights, human trafficking, and hate crimes is specifically a passion of mine, and this coincides with the legal research internship I was a part of over the summer, as these were the precise topics of my research. Above all else, I just love learning. Whether it comes to discovering new facts, or diving into pressing global issues, I always try to place myself in a new opportunity to expand my knowledge, and broaden my worldview.

One way I challenged myself academically is when I took AP Language and Composition. Beginning my junior year, this class was something I feared. I knew AP Lang held a reputation for difficulty, which impaired my faith for the subject I love. Walking through the door on the first day, anxiety consuming my body, I knew that reputation was true.
In English, writing creative, argumentative, and narration pieces has always been something I could produce thoroughly. However, I realized I never appreciated, or knew how to articulate my words using the rhetoric, strategy, and artistry writing requires. This was the class that taught me the value of writing--and formed my love for it.
The challenge of mastering intellectual and meaningful pieces under pressure was something that instantly piqued my interest and motivation to persevere through the intensive workload. Everyday, I learned new ways to diversify my writing style, fusing nuanced ideologies I learned to devise quickly, while strongly asserting myself.
Writing became a game I played in my mind as I strived to incorporate anything to earn the coveted “sophistication point” in class. Whether it be aspects of my favorite authors’ writing styles, or tips my teacher would suggest, I never expected to learn so much; truly this started as just a mental challenge--but unexpectedly, I found a deep love for writing.
Academically, I have never pushed myself harder than in this class--and because of it, I’ve never learned more, or been more appreciative, hopeful, and excited for my future.
