I’m a dedicated student with a passion for academics, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. At school, I strive to maintain a high academic standard while pursuing my interests in music, sports, and healthcare. I’m a member of the top orchestra at my school, where I play [instrument], and being part of this group has not only enhanced my musical skills but also taught me the value of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. Additionally, I am an active member of HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), an organization that has fueled my interest in healthcare and solidified my career goal of becoming a NICU nurse. I’m also the secretary of the Science National Honor Society, where I help organize events, foster scientific learning, and promote academic excellence within my school community. These roles have helped me develop leadership skills and a deep appreciation for both teamwork and service.
Outside of school, I work as a pharmacy technician, which has given me invaluable hands-on experience in the healthcare field. In this role, I assist pharmacists by preparing medications, interacting with patients, and managing prescriptions. I’ve learned about the importance of precision, confidentiality, and strong communication skills. Working directly with patients has allowed me to develop a better understanding of their needs and the impact of healthcare services on their lives. This experience has also deepened my commitment to pursuing a career in healthcare and strengthened my desire to provide compassionate care to those in need, especially newborns and their families in the NICU.
I am also actively involved in my community. I spend time volunteering with local organizations, coaching youth sports, and assisting with community outreach programs. Through these experiences, I’ve learned the importance of service and developed a strong sense of responsibility to give back. Whether I’m helping organize events or mentoring younger students, I’ve always felt driven to make a positive impact on the lives of others. These volunteer opportunities have allowed me to build strong leadership skills, while also reinforcing the value of teamwork and community support.
Post-high school, I plan to pursue a degree in nursing with the goal of becoming a NICU nurse. I’m passionate about caring for newborns and their families, especially during difficult and vulnerable times. Working in the NICU will allow me to combine my love for healthcare with my desire to make a meaningful impact. I know that this career will require not only technical knowledge but also compassion, emotional resilience, and the ability to make decisions under pressure—skills I’ve honed through my various roles as a leader, volunteer, and pharmacy technician.
If I could start my own charity, my mission would be to support families with newborns in the NICU. I would aim to ease the emotional, logistical, and financial burdens that families face during this challenging time. Volunteers would offer services such as childcare, meal preparation, running errands, and providing emotional support. The goal would be to create a caring, supportive community where families can feel less isolated and better equipped to navigate the difficult journey of having a child in intensive care. This charity would align closely with my goal of working in the NICU, as I want to ensure that families receive the care and support they need beyond the medical aspect of their child’s treatment.
Nickels Student Athlete Scholarship
Playing volleyball since 2017 and competing nationally as both a captain and libero has significantly shaped my personal growth, especially in terms of developing confidence. Throughout my high school journey, I have faced challenges in balancing academics with intense practice schedules, managing physical and emotional stress, and leading my team. Each of these experiences has helped me grow as an athlete and as an individual, fostering a deep sense of self-assurance that extends beyond the court and into my everyday life.
One of the most important ways I’ve built confidence is through my role as team captain. Being a captain at a young age pushed me to step outside my comfort zone. I had to learn how to motivate my teammates, maintain a positive attitude in tough situations, and communicate effectively on and off the court. As a leader, I realized that my confidence directly impacted the team’s performance and morale. If I was calm, focused, and positive, it set the tone for the rest of the team. But when I doubted myself, I saw how that could affect the energy and mindset of my teammates. Over time, I learned that confidence is not just about believing in my own abilities but also about inspiring others to believe in themselves. This realization deepened my own self-assurance, knowing that my leadership could help guide my team through challenges and improve our collective performance.
As a libero, I also had to trust my skills and instincts, especially under pressure. This position demands constant communication, quick reflexes, and a high level of consistency. At first, I struggled with self-doubt, particularly after making mistakes, such as missing a pass or misjudging a play. However, I soon realized that mistakes are part of the game and that the key to building confidence was how I responded. Instead of focusing on errors, I learned to reset quickly and move on to the next play. Each successful dig or solid pass helped me build confidence in my abilities, and gradually I became more certain in my role as the defensive anchor of the team.
Traveling nationally for tournaments also contributed to my growing confidence. Competing against teams from across the country exposed me to different playing styles and challenges, but it also showed me that I could thrive in new and unfamiliar environments. Playing in front of larger crowds and representing my team on a national stage made me realize that I was capable of adapting to any situation. With each tournament, I gained a sense of pride in my abilities and grew more confident in my role as a leader and athlete.
Finally, balancing my athletic commitments with academics has also strengthened my confidence. Managing both schoolwork and volleyball requires discipline, time management, and focus. It hasn’t always been easy, but by learning how to prioritize tasks and stay organized, I’ve developed a confidence in my ability to handle multiple responsibilities. I’ve learned that I am capable of succeeding in both areas, even when the pressure is high.
In conclusion, my journey as a volleyball player, team captain, and libero has been instrumental in helping me develop confidence. Through leadership, perseverance, and competing nationally, I’ve learned to trust my abilities and handle challenges with resilience. These experiences have shaped me into a more confident individual, not just as an athlete, but as a student, leader, and person. Confidence is a skill built over time, and I’ve learned that the more I believe in myself, the more I can inspire others to do the same.

As a lifeguard manager, volleyball coach, competitive athlete, and aspiring NICU professional, I am deeply committed to making a positive impact in my community. Each of these roles offers unique opportunities to serve others, whether through safety education, mentorship, or my passion for healthcare. The driving force behind my commitment to helping others stems from a personal experience: the loss of my older sister, who passed away at just three months old after spending much of her life on a heart transplant list in the NICU. Although I was not born at the time, her story has inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare, particularly in neonatal care, and to serve my community in ways that help others during their most difficult times.
Even though I was not alive when my sister passed, her memory has deeply influenced my life. My parents often shared how hard her time in the NICU was for our family. I was inspired by the compassion and expertise of the doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals who cared for her. This experience taught me that healthcare is not just about treating the body—it’s about providing emotional support to families who are going through traumatic situations. This lesson motivated me to pursue a career in the NICU, where I can offer both medical care and emotional comfort to families with critically ill infants. My goal is to honor my sister’s memory by helping others through their own difficult journeys in the NICU.
Outside of healthcare, my current roles as a lifeguard manager and volleyball coach allow me to contribute to my community in practical ways. As a lifeguard manager, my main responsibility is ensuring the safety of everyone using the pool. This job has taught me valuable leadership skills, and it has also provided me with the opportunity to educate the public about water safety. I plan to create water safety programs for local families, especially in underserved areas where access to swim lessons may be limited. By teaching essential skills like swimming techniques and emergency responses, I hope to prevent accidents and promote a culture of safety in the community.
In addition to my lifeguard duties, I coach a 12s youth volleyball team, where I work to help young athletes develop their skills and character. Through coaching, I teach more than just the fundamentals of volleyball—I aim to instill the values of teamwork, discipline, and resilience. I strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where every player feels valued, regardless of their skill level. I believe that sports provide an important platform for teaching life skills, and I hope to help my players build confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn how to handle setbacks in both sports and life.
Looking to the future, I am committed to gaining experience and education in healthcare to work in the NICU. I have begun volunteering at local hospitals and plan to pursue a degree in nursing or a related field. I know that the leadership skills, empathy, and communication abilities I’ve developed through coaching and lifeguarding will serve me well in the NICU, where medical expertise is coupled with emotional support for families in crisis.
Whether through my work as a lifeguard, a coach, or my future role in the NICU, my goal is to make a positive and lasting impact in my community. I hope to provide not only technical expertise but also compassion, helping those in need navigate difficult challenges. Through these efforts, I hope to create a community that feels supported, empowered, and cared for.
