In this community, I have always believed that it is important to effect positive changes in life. I believe firmly that critical small things bring out big changes, especially in helping and bringing encouragement to children and young people. In my neighborhood, I often help by babysitting for families who could always use some extra help. Babysitting can be an easy task, but such moments are the ones I usually use to instill the values of kindness, empathy, and respect in them. I also like to organize activities such as outdoor games or some creative projects to keep them interested in something funny but useful for spare time after school. Such small actions of help make a place where they feel valued, secure, and supported. Apart from my society, I have also engaged with children in assisting them in overcoming online related problems. For instance, I spoke about the dangers of cyberbullying to my younger cousins and the reason they should guard their private lives. I was teaching them about settings so that privacy could be ensured in their profiles and asked them not to disclose personal data to strangers. Not that they have been formal classes, but I do see how just simple and honest talks can make kids feel safer and confidence in what looks like a more digital world. Not really, as I prepare for college, and this has grown to be quite a challenge—my financial need. My family is working so hard, yet our budget remains very tight, and the college tuition is well beyond our reach. I've done so many petty jobs like mowing lawns, walking dogs, baby-sitting, etc., just to save something for my tuition fee, but this very effort helps only a little bit. Most of all, the scholarship itself would make a very big difference, letting me concentrate on my studies most of the time, without always worrying about money. My aspiration is to undertake an education course to become equipped with knowledge about working with children as part of my career as a teacher. I want to be able to work when I create classrooms that are safe, important, and supportive, and where people do well. In my experiences, such small things—doing real listening or advising—have great power. The scholarship would come in handy not only for the costs that college incurs but also for my aid toward people. Though all shall prove too little or too petty to some of my actions, I still hold my head high to have supported the children within my community. I want to take this opportunity to continue to pursue that path and make a decent welcoming place for children wherever life leads me.
