Hi! I come from San Jose CA originally, and I currently live in a small town in CO called Durango. I moved here in 2020 because I had to escape a traumatic living situation back in California. I currently live with 4 other roommates, who are mostly in school as well, and am totally self sufficient. In my free time I can usually be found reading, designing carbon fiber parts, or soaking up the sunshine outdoors. I never fully grasped the importance of education as a young individual, which was commonly reflected in my high school academic scores. As a result of that, I surely lost a great number of opportunities along the way. Ive decided to return to school in order to rectify this, as I have recently discovered that higher education is synonymous with the purpose that I have been searching for in life lately. I found Bold after searching for scholarship opportunities to help me achieve my goals, and I truly believe it will be a stepping stone towards my future. Thanks for reading!

Chris Jackson Computer Science Education Scholarship
I became interested in pursuing a computer science degree after realizing that my life had become a monotonous dance, each day blending into the next. I was getting older and had nothing to show for it, and I knew that my capabilities were in no way being fully expressed in the mundane work I was doing. I knew I was tech savvy, I knew that I thoroughly appreciated the abilities of technology, I knew that some of the smartest individuals I have ever encountered have worked in computer science, and so I had found my calling. It was truly an epiphany, after much existential crisis and anxiety, I could finally exhale, knowing that I had discovered purpose for myself.
I have always known that I like to create things, especially functional contraptions like simple circuits or usable objects. This is something that will never change, and it was an indicator for me which helped me select my career path. I needed a way to translate this passion into a real world application that could be monetized, and so in conjunction with other aforementioned obstacles, computer science had presented itself as the doorway. It was perfect really, the ability to create in a space where materials are not needed. Whole worlds can be built at your fingertips, infinite programs and infinite possibilities to design and test, or protect against cyber threats and develop superior security in the digital space. A true opportunity to become one of the unsung hero’s of the modern world. I liked the thought of that. Computer science will not only reward me with the direction I have much needed in my life, but it will also give me the ability to be truly free in this world. With an education in this background, I can go wherever I dream of, and take my skills with me. This field will nourish my needs wherever I am, because of its flexibility as a totally remote career, if I choose that path. I would never have to tell my family and friends that I can't make it because of work, and let me digress briefly, but if there is one thing I've learned in life, it is that relationships are and always will be the most important thing to me.
My dream job would almost certainly be working for a company that has a hugely positive impact on the well being of the people, perhaps national defense. Ultimately, I would love to start my own company, and be the facilitator of its boundless progression. I believe I am the best candidate for this scholarship because I have a clear understanding of what I want from myself and my life in the pursuit of this degree, and my circumstances in life as a totally self sufficient individual mean that the reception of this grant would be significantly life changing for someone like myself. I thank you for hearing my story, and allowing me this opportunity to share my goals with you.
