Bio

One of my future goals is to become a nurse. I love my family and I cherish all my friends. I like working with others and allowing people to get used to me. I believe I'm very caring, I love being social, even though I might seem like I am, I am always ready to start up a conversation with someone new. I know that with my caring, up-beat personality as well as my perseverance to be great, I can become a great nurse.

I remember sitting at a table around Thanksgiving eating my meal with my family. And out of the blue my uncle who was a nurse, blurted out "Today I had to dig through poop. So I was working with another nurse, a real veteran, and she called me and my coworker over to her. She had a little pile of feces on a plastic bag and told us to bend over and smell it. She said it smelled sweet, meaning he (the patient) had IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease.)" This story my uncle told me grossed me out, but also showed me the lengths nurses must go to make sure their patients feel better. Growing up I've always been surrounded by nurses. My uncle is a nurse at Boston Children's Hospital, my grandmother is a retired NICU nurse, and my aunt is a travel nurse. Ever since I was younger I always wanted to save things, whether that be people or even animals. When I was a kid I would run to the wall of snails and pick them up and help them over the moss wall that often killed many snails. Or even when walking back home from school in the rain as a kid I picked up worms in flooded waters and put them in grass. But as I got older my family members got older as well and I began to realize that they also needed my help. My grandmother has these huge Chinese pots, and often she asks me to carry them up the stairs, or if she needs something from the basement she always calls for me. And growing up with a single mother has always made me realize that people count on me for things, whether that be helping my mom or grandma up the stairs, carrying pots to the basement, or riding my bike to CVS to pick up my moms medication, my family trusts me to help take care of them. From seeing my family members being nurses, and having to help my family members with tasks that are harder for them to complete, pushed me towards the career in nursing. I know the road to this career is very difficult and coming from a little home in Boston with me and my Mom I know that going to college will be a very stark transition. I've gone to education classes to help grow my studying techniques and writing, done leadership programs, and even taken Chinese classes so I can better communicate with my older family members. All my experiences and skills I want to bring with me to nursing so I can treat others how I treat my family.
