History has always been something I was interested in studying. Even as early as elementary school I was encaptivated by how fascinating history is, from the ancient Mayan civilizations to the colonization of the Americas and even more recent historical events - every event in history I have desired to learn about. History is how society learns from past mistakes, without learning about history, then those past mistakes are almost guaranteed to repeat themselves. Learning about history allows citizens to comprehend the issues we as a country may still have, and allows us to learn about why these issues are still happening and what we could to do fix them. History teaches comprehension skills, critical thinking and compassion for others. Events in history are usually not pleasant to study because they involve conflict and suffering of people but that does not mean we need to exclude them from education. History will also be important. One major thing that impacted my decision to pursue a degree in history was my 10th-grade history teacher at my public high school. This teacher was vibrant and engaging and most importantly, loved to share his knowledge and passion for the field of history. His passion and dedication to educating others about history was the biggest reason I decided to pursue a history degree. I want to share my love for history, whether it be through education, guiding people through battlefields, or researching historical events or sites, I just know that I want to share my passion just like my teacher had done. I am aware that I have goals for myself that may be hard to achieve, but I know that my passion for history will help me achieve them. I want to get an internship at Gettysburg in the summer of 2024, ideally, I would like to do tours or education of some sort but I would also be content with archeological research or extractions. Gettysburg and the Civil War period in history have been my favorite to study so achieving a career in Gettysburg to share my knowledge about the period and the battle would be surreal. Gettysburg holds so much American history, the energy and emotions are nearly tangible. My passion for history would be used to teach visitors about the area, the battle, and a very important yet sad conflict within American history. History is important to me, but learning about history is also crucial to America so we as a whole can learn from the past and continue working towards becoming a more United nation once again.
