"The Summer I Turned Pretty" Fan Scholarship
Throughout the "The Summer I Turned Pretty" series, my opinions on each guy have fluctuated but there is one that I believe is the better option. In my opinion, I believe that Conrad is the better option for Belly. To figure this out, I put myself into her shoes and thought about who I would pick if I had to choose. Overall, I am Team Conrad for several reasons. Since Belly and Conrad were younger, Conrad has always found ways to make Belly feel special and loved. Early on in the series, Conrad has always had a soft spot for Belly and would include her with the guys, even though she was the youngest. He has always paid attention to her, while Jeremiah only began to like her when she was older and more mature. Conrad has always appreciated her, as opposed to Jeremiah who started to catch feelings for her when she was sixteen. There is a scene in the show where he explains that he started to catch feelings when he saw her the summer she was sixteen. The main difference between the two boys is that Conrad has always had feelings for her, while Jeremiah likes her for her looks. From my perspective, I see Conrad as a better fit for Belly. One thing I appreciate is when people notice the little things and details, which is what Conrad does. The infinity necklace Conrad got Belly was a perfect example of this, as it shows his feelings for her were continuous and never-ending. It shows that he really cared about her and was deeply in love with her. He knows her favorite candy, while Jerimiah does not, and also gives her his sweater when she is cold in season two. Overall, I think the little things are very important, and is why Conrad is the better choice. Another key point in understanding that Conrad is the best-fit guy for her is the music choice when they interact. I believe that music is extremely important in showing what is going on in the show. In the show, Belly and Conrad got love songs like, "Sweet Nothing", "This Love", "Lover", "False God", and "The Way I Loved You". These songs could be foreshadowing the future of their relationship and symbolize the strong love they have for one another. Although Conrad and Belly have hit a rough patch, I believe that they will make their way back to each other.
      Eras Tour Farewell Fan Scholarship
Throughout the years, my love for Taylor Swift has grown and I have gained an appreciation for her music. I have been a fan of her music since her "Speak Now" album, and grew up listening to songs like "State of Grace" and "Long Live". I have learned a lot about myself through her music and through her life. I have learned a lot about self-esteem and hard work through watching her perform all ten of her eras during "The Eras Tour". The first thing that I have learned about through her music is that I cannot please everyone, and I should just be myself. Throughout the years, Taylor Swift has gained a lot of criticism for being herself, especially through her Reputation and 1989 eras. Although she got a lot of hate, she still kept being herself and made music she loved. She is an extremely hard worker and I aspire to be more like her. In the Eras Tour, there are a few songs on this tour that especially inspire me. This includes the songs "The Man", "Shake It Off" and "Look What You Made Me Do". Watching her have fun during "Shake It Off" during the tour was inspiring as she was having a lot of fun without judgment. When I was younger, I used to have a lot of issues with self-esteem and did not have the confidence to talk to others. Thanks to Ms. Swift, I have become a lot more social and tried to be less of a people pleaser. Her music has helped me cope with the issues of separation. Through her music, she is able to put herself into other's shoes and write about not having a parent close to her. In the song "Cardigan" she says, "I knew you, leaving like a father running like water.". Through this, she has helped me learn about dealing with parental separation and that I am able to persevere through things in life. Her music also taught me that sometimes distancing from friends is important for mental health. Although the song "Clean" was not on the original setlist, it was a surprise song and it helped me get through a friendship breakup. In the song, it says, "Just because your clean don't mean you don't miss it.". This line especially affected me as it was beneficial to distance myself from her, but I still missed her. Taylor Swift's music has helped me through hard times and has helped me learn that I can persevere and deal with issues in my life. Taylor Swift has been an important part of my life and has been a major influence on me. Her music and watching her at the Eras Tour have helped me learn more about myself.Thank you!
      Once Upon a #BookTok Scholarship
Over the past three years I have become a big "bookworm". During the pandemic, I found myself getting bored just sitting at home, so when I was scrolling on TikTok, I discovered the book called "They Both Die at the End.". I read this book within 48 hours and wanted to read more. Since then, I have read over 30 books and a lot of those were BookTok recommendations. There are several titles that are must-haves, and they have all impacted the BookTok community in different ways. The first book that impacted my life and my understanding is the book "It Ends With Us" by Colleen Hoover. This is a book that caught my eye through the popularity it was gaining on TikTok. This book influenced my views on relationships, and to make sure to look for the signs of abuse. This book also helped me understand the proper way to be treated in a relationship and what to look for in a partner in the future. This book also was one of my favorites due to the main character, Lily Bloom. Lily Bloom is an extremely inspiring character as she got out of a dangerous situation for herself and for her daughter. This book got me into Colleen Hoover's books and I have read over half of her collection. This book has impacted the BookTok community as it shows real-life issues of domestic abuse and it helps others understand the perspective of the person being abused, and why they may not leave the relationship. Overall, this book was one of my favorites as it was able to bring light on a sensitive topic, domestic violence. The second book that is a considered must-have is the book "One of Us is Lying". This book created teenage characters I could relate to while adding an interesting twist to it. I found myself relating to the little details of the characters, like Bronwyn Rojas, who worked hard in school. I connected to this book due to the characters being about my age. This book got me into mystery novels and I then decided to read the second book in this series. This book impacted the BookTok community as we were able to solve the mystery of the murder with the characters, and were able to talk about our opinions on who did it. We were able to connect with each other and create a connection through problem-solving. The last book I will be talking about is "Daisy Jones and the Six" by Taylor Jenkins Reid. This book was really interesting to me due to the connection it has to one of my favorite groups of all time, Fleetwood Mac. I was able to put myself in their shoes and understand what the group was going through behind the stage. After reading this book, I read more books by Reid, this included "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo". This book impacted BookTok as it shows that everything one sees on TV may not be how it really is. It shows us that some things are not truly as perfect as they seem. These three books have heavily impacted the BookTok community in different ways, and have impacted my life and what I read. Thank you.
Ryan Yebba Memorial Mental Health Scholarship
My name is Sianna Rangel and one of my main goals in life is to be an advocate for teenagers and focus on helping the ones who are struggling with mental health. As a 17-year-old who has been in the public school system for years, I have seen several examples of bullying and harassment from a friend and have experienced it myself. My plan for the future is to work in a low-income school where I can help students feel comfortable talking to me and be comfortable enough to report bullying and dangerous situations. Since I was a child, I knew I wanted to work in a place where I could positively impact others. From firsthand experience, I have seen bullying in schools and understand the negative impact bullying can have. In middle school, I experienced bullying from several others in my class which caused my mood to change. At my school, I did not have the best resources for a psychologist and did not have the resources I needed. When this happened to me, I realized I would like to be the advocate I did not have myself. An issue in society today is that a lot of low-income schools do not have a psychologist on campus to help with serious situations. For example, my high school, Betty H. Fairfax, does not have a psychologist and I have witnessed many situations where it would be useful to have one. Another issue in school connected to mental health is stress. A lot of students, especially seniors, get overwhelmed when going through the college application process, and it would be extremely helpful to have someone we can talk to. I would like to work in a school to be a comforting place for students to be in and comfortable enough to talk to me. To advocate for students, I would like to begin a platform to try to get a psychologist into each school in the Phoenix Union District, as not all schools have one. I would like to do this sometime in the future after I get my degree in psychology, then contact each school individually to see which ones have psychological help. I would then contact the superintendent of the Phoenix Union High School District on how this issue could be solved. Hopefully, I can come back in several years and work at Fairfax as a psychologist. To be an advocate, I would like to create a non-profit organization to show the importance of mental health in schools and the issues of bullying. I would like to use this to provide methods on how we can prevent bullying as much as possible. Overall, I believe that a main priority for our future is to make schools better and more welcoming for students. I would like to make that impact, thank you.
      Fishers of Men-tal Health Scholarship
My experiences with mental health have been seen through my friends and family. With these experiences, I have formed an extremely important goal in my life. My life goal is to become a psychologist for people in low-income areas. To achieve this goal, I will be majoring in psychology at Arizona State University and eventually get my doctorate in psychology. My focus for the next 10 years of my life is to open my own psychology office and make it affordable for low-income families. The experiences I have had with mental health have fueled my ambition to help others who need it most. I have seen the way mental health affects people my age, and some of my friends may not have the right resources to get an affordable psychologist. I would like to use the education I got at Arizona State University to work in a low-income school to help students who are struggling with stress and anxiety. I have noticed this from first-hand experiences and how much my friend's mental health was affected by school, and how helpful it would be to have someone there to help. This has helped influence my beliefs on the importance of mental health in schools. Seeing the way my friends react to stress in school has affected a lot of my relationships. I have become a helping hand to my friends whenever they need it, and I have gained a lot of patience due to understanding the effects of people struggling with mental health. My perspective on mental health has changed throughout the years due to my parents. I have seen the effect that the military has on mental health and the creation of PTSD after being deployed. I have seen this through my father, as he was deployed in Iraq and struggled with PSTD. When I saw this, I knew I wanted to go into the mental health field and focus on teenagers or people who are in the military. I have also seen the way that mental health affected my mom, due to her anxiety. For these two reasons, I knew what I wanted to do with my life from a young age. Due to all of these reasons, I would like to further my education in psychology and help make an impact on other people’s lives. All in all, my experiences with mental health have helped influence my career path. Thank you.

Education is important to me for several reasons. Education has been used all throughout my life and has carried with me for the last sixteen years. There are many different examples of education, like when my mom taught me to make simple meals and when my teachers taught me how to print my name. Although these are only two examples, education is used everywhere and is extremely beneficial to me. My education is extremely important to me and will follow me through the rest of my life. I would like to further my education and become a psychologist to focus on helping young adults struggling with mental health. Education means a lot to me and will be extremely useful in the career path I am taking. I will be majoring in psychology at Arizona State University and eventually get my doctorate in psychology. My focus for the next 10 years of my life is to open my own psychology office and make it affordable for low-income families. I have seen the way mental health affects people my age, and some of my friends may not have the right resources to get an affordable psychologist. If this plan does not work, I would like to use my education to work in a low-income school to help students who are struggling with stress and anxiety. I have noticed this from first-hand experiences and how much my friend's mental health was affected by school, and how helpful it would be to have someone there to help. The right resources are especially important and having an education would help more students struggling with the same issue. I would also like to use the education I gain in college to help teach others about mental health and the importance of focusing on one's own mental health. My life goal is to open a program with affordable psychology help. I would like to stay in the Phoenix area due to there being a lot of low-income schools and low-income families in the area. All in all, my main goal is to make mental health care affordable to the people who need it most. As I have gotten older, I have learned to appreciate education and how much it has helped me. Education means using what one knows to help others. I would like to use my education to impact others in a positive way and make an impact on people’s lives.

My name is Sianna Rangel and my main goal in life is to help people around my age (seventeen) struggling with mental health and depression. My career goal is to work in a high school and be a psychologist, most likely for a low-income school. After this, I would eventually like to work in my own office and be available to provide affordable help for low-income students and make an impact on the lives of other young adults. I would also like to continue my studies and try to find the root cause of a negative mental health in schools and ways we could help. I deserve this scholarship due to my interest and focus on helping others who are my age struggling with mental health. I am a very aware person and notice people in my own friend group who are having a difficult time in school and seeing their mood shift. An example of this is I noticed when they are also unmotivated and struggling with their own mental health. I noticed one of my closest friends go from a very happy and motivated person in school to becoming very gloomy and unmotivated in school due to stress. It was very challenging for her to find a person who could help her with these obstacles till she found a psychologist. Seeing her struggle to find someone in our school has kept me motivated to continue my studies and hopefully become someone who can help others with mental health in a school environment. This scholarship would benefit me as I would like to go to Arizona State University and major in psychology to start my career in the mental health field. I would like to learn more about how school affects mental health and ways to deal with the stress and anxiety that comes from school. This scholarship would help me fund some of my schooling and help me get a better computer for when I start college. I chose this specific career field in order to help other people my age who may not have the help they need. From a first-person perspective, I have seen the amount of help we get in schools, and it is not great. So, I would like to make an impact in a school and be the resource a student needs to keep them motivated in school and to benefit their mental health. All in all, this scholarship would be extremely beneficial in helping me pursue my goal of being a psychologist for low-income students.
