Grow The Game Volleyball Scholarship
One of my favorite moments from the court was the state playoffs from my sophomore year. Boys volleyball doesn't get many spectators to our game. Most of them are parents or family of the athletes. At state, we had a packed gym. Whenever someone would get a kill, dig, block, etc. the gym would go nuts. When I was the one who got the kill, I would get the chills. Playing in front of hundreds of screaming fans was such a surreal experience that I will never forget.
Another aspect of state that I am fond of was our first round matchup. We (Castle View) upset the number two seed Cheyenne Mountain High School when we were the seventh seed. Throughout the regular season, we had played them three times. I started as a Libero, then was an outside for our second game against them. The third and fourth times we played them, I was playing middle. The satisfaction that I got from finally finding success against them after trying 3 different positions instilled a sense of perseverance in me that still sticks with me. When you add that with the fact that we got revenge after losing to them three times, you get this combination that is one of my happiest memories of my life.
One of the parent photographers was able to snap a picture of my jumping in the air celebrating after the last point. In that picture my knees are above the head of our setter. At that point, it was the highest I had ever jumped. The pure ecstasy from that moment caused me to jump that high, and it's how I measure that moment. It was an incredible experience for a 16 year-old sophomore in high school, and it is definitely one I will never forget.
