I am a college freshman at 60! I was a ballroom dance instructor and business owner for 40 years! Now, I am divorced, single and clear across the country from my family starting over. My major is Entertainment Business B.S. and I’m in my 3rd month with a GPA 3. I’m attending Full Sail University in Orlando, FL.
I have had Arthritis since I was in my mid 20’s. It has progressed to RA and now my joints are affected a lot. I have been extremely physically active my whole life and now I feel like I’m walking through a heavy gel to take every step. I’m not ready to slow down, nor will I give up! I’m determined to succeed and accomplish financial freedom for myself running my own business.
I have loved being in the entertainment industry and want to continue in that industry. Event organizing and travel consulting is my passion along with fundraising. I helped raise $250,000 for big brother/big sister in Ohio by organizing and performing at a yearly fundraiser called “Dance for kids sake” for 5 years in a row.
I have applied to Full Sail Student Club Association to start a ballroom program and help other students build a better portfolio while learning how they can use the skills they’re developing to accomplish hands on experience in the industry.
I love being a great teacher and enjoy helping students become better people with upstanding social skills that help them succeed in life and business. The beauty of ballroom dance and doing it for the pleasure of performing for a good cause, brings me joy and happiness to share my passion with other people and provide quality entertainment to all ages!
I also have fibromyalgia so if I don’t stay active, I get really stiff and sore. I’ve also had a hip replacement in 2017 and had to relearn how to walk again through extensive physical therapy. I had to give up my dance career because of that and got a divorce from my husband and dance partner/business partner. I moved up to Alaska to care for my father in the last few months of his life and became his personal care assistant. After he passed away, I continued working as a PCA for 5 years. My last client passed away in August of 2022 and I decided to change my life and start over again. I got accepted to college and moved to Florida in September of 2022. I’m meeting new people with like minds and goals and have found a sponsor for my club this past week! We start collaborating after the holidays in January! I’m so excited to start teaching dancing again as I learn new business skills and strategies in technology for todays internet marketing and entrepreneurship journey. I hope to unite the ballroom dance industry globally to help get the sport accepted in the Olympics.
