I believe investing the 1000 dollars in my self-learning plan is the most rewarding way. Medical AI software can be trained to detect lesions in an extremely efficient and precise manner, and is now blazing trails in the field of clinical diagnosis. I’ve been self-learning Python programming since last year, and was planning to delve deep into developing the newest medical AI models. To replenish my arsenal of skills, on top of rigorous academic and clinical trainings in my future med school, I’ll need to learn more about AI. 1000 dollars are well enough for me to fill my off-class hours with online courses like the Coursera’s “AI for Medical Specialization” and “Deep Learning Specialization”. Once equipped with essential skills, I’ll start building my project resume in a medical AI lab. 10 years from now, I imagine myself working as an attending physician “slash” AI developer, utilizing fully my programming and clinical knowledge when cooperating with computer scientists and bridging the gap between the “medicine” and “engineering” when developing new AI models that assist physicians when deciding upon diagnosis, prescription, personalized treatment, and many more. Lesions like cancer can be detected as early and precise as possible, boosting survival rates, and doctors can spend more time on high-quality interaction with patients, conducting research or teaching future health workers. Only then can I make the biggest contribution to the society, aided by my interdisciplinary interests, with my 1000 dollars.
