Bio

Having experienced poverty, homelessness, sexual abuse, and lack of economic opportunities throughout her youth, Ms. Garvey have been inspired and committed to correct the wrongs of society that impair the future of our youth. Though she acknowledges that this may seem to be an unrealistic goal or an impossible task, she plans to take on this endeavor with confidence and strategy. This desire has ultimately inspired her to pursue a career in judicial law. Throughout her career she has worked in several communities very similar to that which she grew up in and have volunteered countless hours as an after-school teacher, participated in various mentorship programs, and volunteered at several hospitals. Ms. Garvey left her role as the Client Implementation Specialist for AmeriHealth Administrator to pursue her passion to serve underrepresented youth. In the year of 2018 Ms. Garvey became the Massachusetts Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) Local Coordinator where her work is centered around educating system stakeholders of young people’s potential to become effective leaders, mentors, educators and advocates in their community. As the JDAI Local Coordinator, she serves as the content expert for matters related to secure detention, detention alternatives and juvenile detention reform for Suffolk and Bristol County. In this role she has written, and developed policy briefs, curriculums and trainings address racial and ethnic disparities. Ms. Garvey will be pursuing her law degree at Suffolk Law in Fall 2021.
