Clifton D. Willis Memorial Scholarship
WinnerAs a student, I know that I am suitable for this scholarship for variety of reasons. Above all, I have worked extremely hard to achieve and maintain a balanced GPA throughout my educational journey. Although school work has been hectic I’ve been responsible and motivated enough to endure in all of my extracurricular activities.
Apart from this, I have made a major impact in dwelling into my community. From donating clothes, shoes, or money, I strongly believe that it is my job as well as my community job to give back to make the world a safer and healthier place. Contributing to my community not only helps them, but it also helps me make better and brighter choices.
Being the oldest out of four other siblings , I have been able to realize that the importance of my actions were a powerful impact onto them. Whether it’s teaching them how to drive, do homework, ride bikes, fixing their hair in their own likings or even teaching them how to tie one’s shoe, each act of my service has had a significant effect upon my siblings.
Participating in Track & Field and Basketball has had an outstanding impact on my life. Being apart of the Track & Field team has allowed me to develop leadership skills, collaborate with others, and display my talents through performances. These contributions lured me into personal growth, career opportunities, and also discipline. Indulging myself within this sport has helped me become a better person.
Basketball, on the other hand, provided a different experience and perspective than Track & Field. There have been plenty of days where I wasn't in the best mood and would rely on basketball to keep me uplifted and focused on the purpose of my being. I have been able to build friendships, explore different places, and participate in many competitive events involving problem solving. My favorite basketball teams are LSU, Ohio State and Ole Miss.
Both Track & Field and basketball can familiarize someone with creativity, enhance time management, and social skills. However, they can also have minor set backs when not balanced with other aspects of life and personal issues, such as loss of sleep and/or neglecting other responsibilities.
In addition to this, Track & Field, basketball, and maintaining a high GPA taught me critical lessons about empathy, compassion and self worth. It has assist me with very essential skills I would need in the future, such as leadership, communication, confidence, teamwork, and etc.
Undoubtedly, I feel deserving of this scholarship because of my dedication to my academic success and my passion for helping others and sports. I have witnessed the impact of my actions on my peers, helping others overcome challenges and fostering positive change. By receiving this scholarship, I would be able to continue making an huge difference and inspiring others to join in the pursuit of a better society.
