I consider myself a non-traditional student because my journey to higher education has been anything but linear. Unlike the typical path straight from high school to college, my story includes twists, pauses, and moments of reevaluation that have shaped who I am and deepened my commitment to my education. Life has presented me with challenges that required resilience, adaptability, and a steadfast belief in my goals, and these experiences are what make my educational journey unique. For me, becoming a non-traditional student wasn’t a choice—it was a necessity. After high school, I had responsibilities that couldn’t wait, from supporting my family to navigating personal obstacles. Those years were a crash course in life, teaching me lessons about perseverance, hard work, and the importance of never losing sight of your dreams, even when they feel out of reach. When I finally returned to school, it was with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. I wasn’t just attending classes to earn a degree—I was there to build a future for myself and contribute meaningfully to my community. Being a non-traditional student has given me a deep appreciation for education and its power to transform lives, and I approach my studies with focus and gratitude. This scholarship would play a pivotal role in helping me achieve my educational goals. Like many non-traditional students, balancing school with financial obligations is a constant challenge. Tuition, textbooks, and other expenses add up quickly, and any support goes a long way in allowing me to focus fully on my studies. More than just financial relief, receiving this scholarship would be a validation of my hard work and perseverance, reminding me that my journey, though unconventional, is worthwhile. I am pursuing my degree in Criminal Justice: Criminalistics , and my ultimate goal is to become a crime scene investigator and a forensic pathologist. This isn’t just about building a career—it’s about using the opportunities education provides to give back. I hope to create change in areas I care deeply about, whether through advocacy, mentorship, or community service. Being a non-traditional student has taught me that education isn’t about fitting into a mold; it’s about forging your own path, no matter how unconventional it may be. This scholarship would not only help me financially but would also affirm that my journey—complete with its setbacks and restarts—is valid and meaningful. It would empower me to continue pursuing my goals and inspire others to do the same, proving that it’s never too late to chase your dreams.

I come from a family and community that have taught me the values of resilience, compassion, and service. These lessons have shaped who I am today and fuel my desire to make a positive impact on both the world and the people around me. Growing up, I learned the importance of connection and giving back. Whether it was helping my siblings with schoolwork, volunteering in local community projects, or simply listening to someone who needed support, I saw how small acts of kindness could ripple outward to create real change. My story begins with a deep-rooted desire to create opportunities not just for myself, but for my community. Growing up in a family that valued resilience and innovation, I learned to see challenges as opportunities for growth. Those values inspired my passion for entrepreneurship and my belief in its transformative potential. To me, entrepreneurship is more than starting a business—it’s about building something that can make a lasting impact. My business idea centers on providing culturally inclusive wellness services tailored to individuals in underserved communities. Throughout my journey as a student and advocate, I’ve recognized the profound need for accessible mental health resources and wellness programs that acknowledge the unique challenges faced by people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Many existing services fail to meet these needs, leaving a significant gap in care. This realization sparked the idea for my business, which aims to bridge that gap through community-focused initiatives. I became interested in entrepreneurship when I realized its ability to combine creativity with problem-solving. While serving as a peer mentor and advocate in my university’s wellness programs, I discovered how fulfilling it is to develop solutions that empower others. I saw firsthand how thoughtful programs could make people feel seen, supported, and understood. This inspired me to pursue entrepreneurship as a way to extend this impact on a larger scale. The inspiration for my business idea came from personal experiences and the stories of others. As a criminal justice student with a focus on advocacy, I’ve often encountered individuals whose well-being was overlooked due to systemic barriers. Witnessing the transformative power of supportive spaces made me want to create a business that offers holistic wellness services—combining mental health resources, cultural education, and self-care practices. I envision this business as a safe haven where people can connect, heal, and thrive. My goals as an entrepreneur are both ambitious and deeply personal. I aim to launch a sustainable business that not only offers services but also actively collaborates with schools, nonprofits, and community organizations. My dream is to normalize wellness conversations in communities that have traditionally faced stigma around mental health and self-care. I also hope to provide employment opportunities, particularly for individuals who are passionate about advocacy and wellness but face barriers to entry in these fields. Ultimately, I hope to achieve a ripple effect of positive change—empowering individuals to prioritize their well-being, fostering stronger communities, and contributing to a world where everyone has access to the support they need. By pursuing entrepreneurship, I am not just building a business; I am building a vision of equity, inclusivity, and resilience. This journey is as much about helping others as it is about realizing my own potential to make a difference.

As a proud member of the Puerto Rican community, my heritage has shaped every aspect of my identity, from my values of resilience and solidarity to my aspirations for justice and equity. Puerto Rico’s rich culture, history, and enduring struggles have instilled in me a deep sense of pride, as well as a responsibility to advocate for my community. The challenges I have faced as a Puerto Rican have fueled my passion for law and my determination to ensure that others have access to the opportunities they deserve. Growing up, I witnessed the impact of systemic inequities on the Puerto Rican community, including barriers to education, economic instability, and the lingering effects of colonialism. These experiences taught me the importance of standing together as a community and fighting for justice. My heritage has also instilled in me a strong sense of perseverance; despite facing adversity, Puerto Ricans have always demonstrated an unyielding spirit and determination to overcome. These values have guided my journey and motivated me to pursue a career in law as a way to address the systemic challenges we face. In my educational journey, I encountered barriers related to access and opportunity, including underfunded schools and limited resources. I often felt the weight of being a first-generation student, navigating academic and financial challenges with little guidance. However, these obstacles only strengthened my resolve. With the support of mentors and my community, I learned to advocate for myself and seize every opportunity to succeed. These experiences have taught me the importance of mentorship, representation, and dismantling the systemic barriers that often prevent marginalized communities from achieving their full potential. As a future legal professional, I envision myself playing a pivotal role in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion within the legal field. Representation matters, and I aim to bring the unique perspectives and experiences of my Puerto Rican heritage to a profession that often lacks cultural diversity. By mentoring aspiring lawyers from underrepresented backgrounds, advocating for equitable policies, and working to dismantle systemic injustices, I hope to contribute to a legal system that reflects the diversity of the communities it serves. Furthermore, I am committed to using my legal career to uplift the Puerto Rican community and honor the legacy of individuals like Jesus Perez, who dedicated their lives to justice and equity. Whether advocating for better access to education, addressing disparities in housing, or working to protect the rights of Puerto Rican citizens, I want to ensure that my work has a tangible impact on the lives of others. I also hope to contribute to preserving and amplifying Puerto Rican culture and history, ensuring that future generations can take pride in their heritage. In conclusion, the challenges I have faced as a member of the Puerto Rican community have shaped my identity and inspired my desire to pursue a career in law. I am committed to advancing diversity and equity within the legal field while using my career to advocate for my community and honor the legacy of those who have paved the way for justice. Through resilience, advocacy, and a steadfast commitment to service, I hope to create meaningful change and leave a lasting impact.

My desire to practice law stems from a deep commitment to justice, advocacy, and creating meaningful change in the lives of others. From a young age, I’ve been captivated by the power of the law to shape society, protect individual rights, and provide a platform for people to be heard. Over time, this fascination has evolved into a profound calling to use the law as a tool to uplift underserved communities and champion equality. One of the pivotal moments that solidified my desire to become a lawyer was witnessing how legal barriers can profoundly impact individuals and families. Whether it was seeing a friend struggle with immigration issues, observing systemic inequities in the criminal justice system, or learning about the challenges faced by marginalized communities in accessing education or healthcare, I recognized that the law is often at the heart of these struggles. These experiences ignited a desire in me to not only understand the legal system but to actively work toward dismantling the barriers that perpetuate inequality. Practicing law appeals to me because it offers the unique opportunity to merge intellectual rigor with advocacy. I am drawn to the idea of analyzing complex legal issues, crafting compelling arguments, and using those skills to fight for what is right. The law is a powerful equalizer when used ethically, and I want to be part of ensuring that power is wielded responsibly and inclusively. Whether through litigation, policy reform, or community advocacy, I envision myself using my legal expertise to address systemic challenges and improve the lives of those who are often left voiceless. Another driving factor in my decision to pursue law is my passion for storytelling and communication. I believe that at its core, law is about telling stories—stories of people, their struggles, and their triumphs—and presenting those stories in ways that resonate with others, whether in a courtroom, boardroom, or legislative setting. My background in communication has taught me how to connect with diverse audiences and distill complex information into actionable insights. These skills will be invaluable as I navigate the legal field and advocate for my clients. In addition to advocacy, I am also drawn to the idea of shaping laws and policies that create lasting change. Practicing law will allow me to address systemic issues at their root, ensuring that solutions are not just temporary fixes but meaningful reforms that benefit future generations. Whether it’s tackling disparities in education, advocating for criminal justice reform, or advancing environmental justice, I want my legal career to contribute to building a more equitable society. Ultimately, I want to practice law because I believe in its transformative potential. It is a profession that demands both intellect and heart, and I am eager to rise to that challenge. My goal is to be a lawyer who not only provides effective counsel but also serves as a source of hope and empowerment for those I represent. By practicing law, I hope to leave a lasting legacy of justice, compassion, and positive change.

My experience with my parent’s cancer journey has profoundly shaped who I am today. Watching my parent battle cancer, enduring the uncertainty, and witnessing the physical and emotional toll it took on our family has been an eye-opening and transformative experience. It tested my resilience, deepened my empathy, and taught me the importance of health, family, and perspective. In many ways, it has molded my character, strengthening my determination to help others in similar circumstances and contributing to my desire to pursue a career focused on supporting people through challenging times. The emotional impact of seeing a loved one face such a difficult and life-threatening illness was overwhelming. There were days when hope felt distant, and the stress of managing appointments, treatments, and the overwhelming fear of what might happen next created a sense of helplessness. But amidst the fear and uncertainty, I learned the importance of resilience. My parent’s ability to push through pain, maintain optimism, and fight for their health, even on the darkest days, inspired me. It taught me the power of mental fortitude and the critical role that mindset plays in overcoming challenges. This experience also deepened my empathy for others who are going through similar struggles. I saw firsthand how cancer doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed but everyone around them. It’s a journey that touches families, friends, and communities, and it created a greater sense of understanding for the emotional and psychological impact of illness. I became more attuned to the emotional needs of others, especially when it comes to grief, loss, or fear. I found myself more willing to listen, offer support, or simply be present for those in need. This empathy is something that has stayed with me and drives my desire to make a meaningful impact in the lives of others. Moreover, my parent’s cancer journey changed how I view the world. It shifted my perspective on what really matters in life. The small day-to-day stresses that once seemed significant now appear trivial in comparison to the battles many people face with their health. I learned to cherish time spent with loved ones, value my own health, and understand that life is unpredictable. I also became more passionate about helping others navigate their own journeys, especially when it comes to supporting those facing health crises. This is what inspired me to pursue a career in health services or counseling, where I can help individuals and families cope with their own struggles, particularly in the context of illness or loss. In addition, watching my parent’s journey influenced my approach to self-care. I realized the importance of maintaining balance and looking after my own well-being so that I could be there for my family. The experience also inspired me to take an active role in advocating for better healthcare resources, particularly for people facing cancer and chronic illness, as well as supporting organizations that work to provide care and comfort during these challenging times. In conclusion, my experience with my parent’s cancer journey has had a profound impact on who I am. It has strengthened my resilience, deepened my empathy, and provided me with a more meaningful perspective on life. It has also fueled my desire to help others in difficult situations, particularly those dealing with health challenges. I carry with me the lessons learned through this experience, and they continue to shape my personal and professional goals as I seek to contribute to the well-being of others.
      Black Leaders Scholarship
In honor of Black History Month, one Black leader who has profoundly inspired me is my grandmother, whose strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to family and community have left an indelible mark on my life. While she may not be a public historical figure, her impact is deeply felt by those who know her, and I consider her to be a leader in her own right. Growing up, my grandmother instilled in me the importance of perseverance and the power of self-determination. She was born and raised in a time and place where opportunities for Black women were limited, yet she never allowed those societal constraints to define her. As a young woman, she faced racial and gender-based discrimination, but she approached every challenge with grace and determination. Her story is one of constant overcoming—whether it was in her professional life as a community advocate or in her personal life as a matriarch of our family, she always prioritized the well-being of others while maintaining a sense of dignity and pride. What has inspired me most about my grandmother is her ability to lead through service. She never sought recognition for the countless hours she spent volunteering at local schools, churches, and community organizations, but the impact of her actions was felt by everyone around her. She taught me that leadership is not about titles or accolades but about the influence you have on others through your actions. Her example showed me that real leadership is rooted in service, empathy, and the willingness to uplift others, especially in times of need. Beyond her role as a community leader, my grandmother also emphasized the importance of education and continuous self-improvement. She was a lifelong learner, always encouraging me to stay curious and pursue knowledge no matter the obstacles. Even though she did not have access to the same educational opportunities as others, she valued learning and encouraged those around her, especially her grandchildren, to pursue higher education and to never let anything limit their potential. Her strength, not just in overcoming adversity but in using that strength to positively impact others, is a lesson I carry with me daily. She exemplifies the essence of Black leadership—not through grand gestures or widespread fame, but through quiet, consistent acts of courage, resilience, and love. Her influence has shaped my own goals, particularly my desire to contribute to my community and work toward a more just and equitable world. In many ways, my grandmother’s leadership mirrors the qualities of other historic Black leaders, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Maya Angelou, who understood that leadership is not just about fighting for justice but also about embodying the values of kindness, compassion, and dedication to the collective good. She may not be as well-known as these figures, but her impact has been just as profound within our family and community. This Black History Month, I reflect on my grandmother’s legacy and the powerful ways in which she, like so many others, has contributed to shaping a better future. Her example has inspired me to work toward creating positive change in my own community and to remember that every act of service, no matter how small, can make a significant difference.
      KG Aviation Scholarship
Current Certificates and Hours: I currently hold a private pilot certificate and a certified flight instructor (CFI) certificate. I have accumulated 450 flight hours so far and am working towards earning my commercial pilot certificate. Each of these milestones has brought me closer to my goal of becoming a professional pilot, and I am continuously striving to expand my skills and experience. Why I Chose a Career in Aviation: My decision to pursue a career in aviation was influenced by a lifelong fascination with flight. From a young age, I was captivated by airplanes, the science of flight, and the freedom that piloting offers. I would often watch planes take off and land, imagining what it would feel like to be in control of such a powerful machine. As I got older, my passion for aviation only deepened, and I realized that becoming a pilot would not only allow me to fulfill a childhood dream but also open up countless opportunities to explore the world and challenge myself. There’s something uniquely thrilling about the feeling of being up in the air, high above the earth, and seeing the world from a perspective that few others experience. However, it’s not just the excitement of flying that drew me to aviation; it’s the sense of responsibility and precision that comes with it. Flying requires constant learning, attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm under pressure—qualities that I admire and seek to develop in myself. This combination of adventure, technical skill, and responsibility is what ultimately made me choose aviation as my career path. What I Hope to Achieve: In my aviation career, I aim to achieve two primary goals: to become a highly skilled and respected commercial pilot and to contribute to the industry through teaching and mentoring others. I believe that the more experienced pilots are, the more they can give back to the aviation community by fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous learning. As I progress in my career, I hope to take on leadership roles where I can help shape the future of aviation, especially in areas like sustainability and pilot training. Additionally, I want to explore the various facets of aviation, from commercial airline flying to corporate aviation and even flight instruction. By gaining a wide range of experiences, I can better understand the nuances of the industry and determine where my true passions lie. Whether I’m piloting large passenger planes or instructing future pilots, I want to use my career to inspire others and share the joy of flight. Why Aviation is Important to Me: Aviation holds a special place in my heart because it combines my love for science, adventure, and helping others. It’s a field where the possibilities are endless, and each day brings new challenges and opportunities. Aviation has the power to connect people and cultures, and I see it as a gateway to exploring the world while contributing to global progress. Whether it’s flying to remote locations or providing services to people in need, aviation has the unique ability to make a significant impact. In addition, aviation represents a pursuit of excellence and precision, and I take great pride in being part of an industry that prioritizes safety and innovation. As aviation continues to evolve with new technologies, I’m excited to be part of that change, learning and growing along the way. Ultimately, aviation is more than just a career for me; it’s a lifelong passion that gives me purpose and motivates me to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
      GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
A lyric from Olivia Rodrigo’s GUTS that resonates deeply with my own teenage experience is from the song “The Grudge,” where she sings: “I think I’ll always have a grudge / I think I’ll always have a grudge / And I’ll carry it with me like a badge of honor.” This lyric captures the complexity and intensity of adolescence in a way that feels raw and real. Teenagers are often navigating a time of heightened emotions and personal growth, and Rodrigo’s line speaks to how, during these years, conflicts, disappointments, and even mistakes can feel like monumental, unforgettable events. There’s a tendency to carry grudges or negative experiences with us, whether they’re from friendships, romantic relationships, or family dynamics. These moments often feel bigger than they really are and can leave lasting impressions on our identities, sometimes for years to come. For me, this lyric perfectly encapsulates the emotional baggage that comes with growing up; especially as a teenager. I’ve experienced moments where I’ve held onto grievances, feeling like they defined me. Whether it was dealing with misunderstandings or feeling like I wasn’t being understood by those closest to me, there’s a part of adolescence that involves trying to find balance between holding onto your emotions and learning to let go. Rodrigo’s line reflects that struggle. She doesn’t just mention carrying a grudge. She emphasizes that it’s something that stays with you, almost as if it becomes a part of who you are. What stands out is how the lyric expresses that feeling of being stuck, and the way that unresolved issues can fester and shape the way you view the world. The adolescent years are filled with moments of self-discovery, but they can also be marked by frustration, insecurity, and unresolved emotional tension. It’s a period where things can feel incredibly personal, and it’s hard to separate your own growth from the things you’re going through. Rodrigo’s music, particularly “The Grudge,” highlights how those emotions, even the negative ones, can become a significant part of your identity, even if they aren’t always healthy. At the same time, the lyric speaks to the power of processing these feelings. While Rodrigo mentions carrying the grudge like a “badge of honor,” the song’s overall theme hints at the complexity of carrying emotional weight while still trying to understand who you are. It’s a reminder that, as painful as it can be, the process of learning, growing, and confronting these emotions is just as important as the resolution. It shows how the challenges of adolescence aren’t just about experiencing difficult things, but about learning to navigate, carry, and eventually release them to make room for personal growth. In conclusion, Olivia Rodrigo’s “The Grudge” lyric encapsulates the feeling of adolescence with its intensity, contradictions, and emotional weight. It mirrors the complex relationship teens have with their feelings and the process of growing into who we’re meant to be. The line captures how, as teenagers, we often struggle to let go of past pain, but in doing so, we ultimately learn more about ourselves and the value of emotional resilience.
      LeBron James Fan Scholarship
I’m a huge fan of LeBron James for several reasons, both on and off the basketball court. His incredible talent, unmatched versatility, and leadership have made him one of the greatest players to ever play the game, but it’s his character and commitment to making a positive impact that really sets him apart in my eyes. On the court, LeBron’s career has been nothing short of legendary. His ability to excel in virtually every aspect of the game by scoring, passing, rebounding, and defending that makes him an all-around player like no other. He can play multiple positions at an elite level, and his basketball IQ is second to none. His performances in the NBA Finals, especially his iconic block against Andre Iguodala in Game 7 of the 2016 Finals, demonstrate his ability to rise to the occasion in high-pressure moments. Beyond statistics, LeBron’s longevity is also remarkable; he’s maintained an elite level of play for over 20 seasons, which is rare in professional sports. His consistency and ability to adapt his game over time show his deep understanding of the game and his work ethic. While there are debates over whether LeBron is the greatest of all time (GOAT) or if Michael Jordan holds that title, I believe that LeBron has a legitimate case for being the greatest. His all-around game and ability to impact every facet of a match give him a distinct edge over other legends like Jordan, who, while undeniably a fierce competitor and scorer, was more specialized in his role. LeBron has proven that he can dominate both ends of the floor and has shown remarkable adaptability, playing alongside multiple star teammates and excelling in different team dynamics. What also makes LeBron stand out is his ability to lead off the court. His activism and philanthropy have made a lasting impact. LeBron’s decision to open the “I PROMISE School” in his hometown of Akron, Ohio, demonstrates his commitment to education and empowering future generations. His advocacy for social justice, especially in speaking out on issues such as racial inequality, police brutality, and voting rights, shows that he uses his platform for positive change. LeBron understands the weight of his influence and the importance of using it to make the world a better place. In conclusion, LeBron James is more than just a basketball player; he’s a leader, role model, and advocate who has transcended the game in ways that few athletes have. Whether or not he’s the greatest of all time may be up for debate, but his combination of on-court excellence and off-court impact is undeniable. I admire LeBron not only for his talent but for his dedication to making the world a better place, which is why I’m such a big fan of his.

The perfect ending to a series, for me, would be one that ties up character arcs in a meaningful and satisfying way while also leaving room for growth and future possibilities. It’s a balance of closure and open-ended hope that reflects the complexity of life itself. Here’s how I imagine the perfect ending for a series: In the final moments, all the main characters have gone through their individual journeys, overcoming personal struggles, reconciling past conflicts, and achieving their goals—some in ways they never expected. The series focuses on the value of human connection and personal growth, and as the ending unfolds, it’s clear that the characters are in a better place, both emotionally and in terms of their relationships with one another. The main protagonist, who started the journey uncertain and perhaps lost, has found their purpose. They’ve matured, gaining clarity on what truly matters in life—whether it’s career success, a romantic relationship, or simply understanding themselves better. They’ve forged deep bonds with their friends, their family, and maybe even someone they love. The journey has been about healing, not just from external obstacles, but from internal ones too. For other key characters, they have come to terms with their flaws and struggles, like overcoming fear, letting go of past trauma, or reconciling with estranged loved ones. The side characters also find their own paths to happiness or fulfillment—some might embark on new adventures, while others find peace in simple contentment. Maybe one character finally embraces their true identity, or another gets the career breakthrough they’ve always dreamed of. The setting of the final scene is symbolic. It could take place in a place that has been significant throughout the series, like a café where the characters often met, a familiar cityscape, or even a serene natural landscape that represents growth and renewal. The characters come together one last time, not for a grand event, but just to be with each other—no big speeches, just genuine interaction that shows how far they’ve come. The final lines are meaningful, not necessarily perfect, but reflective of how they’ve all changed. There’s a sense of peace, but also excitement for what lies ahead for each of them. Ultimately, the perfect ending is one that feels earned. It’s not about everything being perfect or without conflict, but about the characters achieving a level of peace with themselves and their world. It’s an ending that reflects the ongoing nature of life—acknowledging that their journey doesn’t end here, but that they’re now ready to face whatever comes next with a sense of hope, strength, and unity.
      Elizabeth Schalk Memorial Scholarship
Mental illness has affected my life and my family in ways that have shaped my understanding of the world and my perspective on personal growth. Growing up, I witnessed family members struggle with different mental health challenges, from anxiety and depression to more severe issues like bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These experiences have had a profound impact on me, both in terms of how I view mental health and how I navigate my own life and relationships. For many years, mental illness was something that was not openly discussed in my family. There was a lot of shame associated with seeking help, and as a result, it often led to feelings of isolation and misunderstanding. As a child, I didn’t fully grasp the complexities of mental health; I just knew that certain members of my family were struggling in ways that felt invisible to others. I remember watching a close family member go through intense emotional highs and lows, and it was confusing to see them change so dramatically. At times, it felt like there was a wall between us because their behavior was unpredictable, and I didn’t know how to support them. As I grew older, I began to realize the importance of addressing mental health openly and seeking help when needed. I started to educate myself about the various mental health conditions that had affected my family, and it became clear that mental illness is not something to be ashamed of—it’s a medical issue that requires understanding and compassion. I also began to recognize that mental illness doesn’t just affect the individual; it affects the entire family. My family and I had to learn how to adapt, how to communicate better, and how to support each other through difficult times. It wasn’t always easy, but these experiences taught me the value of patience, empathy, and the importance of seeking professional help when necessary. Mental illness has also shaped my own journey. While I haven’t personally faced the same level of struggle as some of my family members, I have dealt with my own mental health challenges, including anxiety. At times, I’ve found it difficult to manage the pressures of school, work, and personal relationships. However, I’ve learned how important it is to recognize when I’m overwhelmed and to take steps to care for myself—whether that means talking to a therapist, practicing mindfulness, or simply taking a break from my routine. These lessons have not only helped me manage my own mental health but have also given me a deeper understanding of the struggles others face. I’ve seen firsthand the impact that mental illness can have on a family’s dynamics, but I’ve also seen the strength and resilience that can come from it. It has taught me that mental health is just as important as physical health and that everyone deserves to receive support and care. It’s something I’m passionate about advocating for; breaking the stigma, providing education, and creating more open, supportive environments for those who are struggling. In my future, I want to continue to raise awareness and work toward creating more resources for mental health support, so others don’t have to feel as though they are facing it alone.
      Wicked Fan Scholarship
I’m a fan of Wicked because it tells a story that is both heart-wrenching and empowering, with themes that resonate deeply with me. The musical, based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, offers a fresh perspective on a well-known tale, exploring the lives of the witches of Oz long before Dorothy ever arrived. What draws me to Wicked is its exploration of identity, friendship, and the complexities of good and evil. It’s a story that challenges the traditional notion of what it means to be “good” or “bad” and encourages viewers to question societal labels. The character of Elphaba, the misunderstood “Wicked Witch of the West,” is one of the most compelling aspects of the show. Her journey from a young, idealistic girl to an outcast who is villainized for her differences is incredibly moving. I admire her resilience and her refusal to conform to others’ expectations. She is a character who embraces her uniqueness, despite facing constant criticism and prejudice. Her relationship with Glinda is also a highlight of the musical. The evolution of their friendship—moving from rivalry to mutual respect—is a powerful reminder of the importance of connection and understanding in a world that often divides people based on superficial differences. The music in Wicked is another reason I’m such a fan. Songs like “Defying Gravity” and “For Good” are not only memorable but also emotionally charged. “Defying Gravity” represents Elphaba’s moment of liberation, as she chooses to live on her own terms despite the consequences. The song’s soaring melody and powerful lyrics inspire me every time I hear it. “For Good” captures the depth of Elphaba and Glinda’s bond, and it’s a song that reminds me of the lasting impact that friendships and relationships can have on our lives. The music, combined with the stunning performances, creates an unforgettable experience that stays with you long after the show ends. I also love how Wicked touches on broader themes of societal expectations, power, and the consequences of prejudice. It speaks to the importance of standing up for what is right, even when it feels like the world is against you. It challenges the conventional notion of “villains” and shows that everyone has a story and motivations that may not be immediately understood. It reminds me that people are complex, and their actions are often driven by circumstances beyond their control. Ultimately, Wicked is a musical that celebrates individuality, friendship, and the courage to be yourself in a world that often tries to define you. It’s a story that encourages us to look beyond labels, embrace our differences, and recognize the power we all have to make a difference in the world. That’s why I’m such a fan—it’s not just a musical, but a reminder of the importance of standing up for who you are and the people who matter most.
Dreamer Scholarship by Lolah Alva Boutique
Growing up undocumented has shaped much of my life in ways that I’m still processing, and it has been a constant source of both challenges and motivation. From a young age, I was acutely aware of the barriers that come with not having legal status—being ineligible for certain opportunities, feeling like an outsider in my own community, and living with the fear of being separated from my family. My parents instilled in me the importance of working hard and staying focused, but there were always limitations because of our immigration status. For many years, the uncertainty surrounding our situation made me cautious, always trying to stay under the radar while aspiring to achieve my dreams. Despite these challenges, I’ve learned to be resourceful and resilient. I’ve found ways to succeed academically by seeking out programs and mentors who supported me, and I’ve worked tirelessly to ensure that my personal and educational goals remain intact. These experiences have shaped me into someone who understands the value of perseverance and hard work, even when the odds seem stacked against me. Being undocumented has taught me to appreciate the opportunities I do have and to make the most of them, knowing that I might not have access to certain privileges others take for granted. I want to go to college because I believe education is the key to creating a better future, not only for myself but also for my family and my community. I’m passionate about pursuing a degree in criminal justice, as I want to advocate for the rights of undocumented individuals and contribute to making the legal system more fair and inclusive. I am particularly drawn to universities that offer supportive programs for undocumented students, where I can find a community that understands my experiences and provides the tools to navigate the challenges of higher education. Winning this scholarship would mean the world to me. It would not only alleviate the financial burdens that come with paying for college as an undocumented student but would also give me the confidence to continue pursuing my dreams without constantly worrying about the cost. With this scholarship, I would have the opportunity to focus on my studies, engage with professors and peers who inspire me, and eventually give back to my community by becoming an advocate for those who are often overlooked or marginalized. This scholarship would be a stepping stone to making my goals a reality, and I’m determined to make the most of this opportunity to change my life and the lives of others.

From her powerful voice to her deeply personal songwriting, Chappell has created a sound that resonates with me in a way few artists have. She blends pop, indie, and country influences, all while addressing complex emotions and experiences, making her music feel deeply personal and universally relatable. One of the things that draws me to Chappell Roan’s music is her fearless approach to addressing topics like identity, heartbreak, and societal pressures. Her songs don’t shy away from vulnerability, and they speak to a wide range of listeners who may be navigating similar challenges. For example, tracks like “Pink Pony Club” and “Casual” dive into themes of self-discovery and the complexities of relationships, all while exploring the intersection of gender, sexuality, and emotional growth. As someone who values authenticity, I admire her willingness to share these intimate aspects of herself through her music. It’s rare to hear an artist who is both raw and unapologetically true to themselves, and Chappell Roan does this with incredible grace. Her music also gives me a sense of solidarity. Charli XCX brat Fan Scholarship
One of my favorite songs on Charli XCX’s BRAT album is “Apple.” It stands out to me not only for its catchy beat but also for its blend of vulnerability and empowerment, which is characteristic of Charli’s artistry. “Apple” is a track that feels both personal and anthemic, combining introspection with a powerful, fun energy that makes it so easy to listen to on repeat. The song has a playful, almost cheeky vibe, with its light, bouncy production and infectious melody. There’s an undeniable pop quality to it that makes it accessible, but Charli’s unique style shines through with its quirky, almost avant-garde touches. The upbeat tempo contrasts with some of the deeper emotional themes explored in the lyrics, creating an interesting dynamic that makes the song both lighthearted and thought-provoking. Lyrically, “Apple” is about self-assurance, embracing one’s own individuality, and rejecting societal pressures. Charli sings about feeling like the “apple of someone’s eye,” symbolizing confidence and desirability, while also confronting the idea of being misunderstood or misinterpreted. It’s a celebration of owning who you are, flaws and all, and feeling empowered in your own skin. This idea of self-love and acceptance resonates with me deeply, especially in a world where people often struggle with comparison and self-doubt. The song is a reminder to take pride in one’s uniqueness and embrace those qualities that set you apart. What I find especially compelling about “Apple” is Charli XCX’s ability to infuse a sense of playful rebellion with an underlying message of empowerment. She’s unapologetic in her expression, and that attitude is contagious. It’s a song that feels like both a self-empowerment anthem and a personal reflection, making it easy for listeners to relate to and connect with. The balance of fun and meaning is part of what makes “Apple” so engaging, and it’s why it’s my favorite track on BRAT. Overall, “Apple” encapsulates Charli’s evolution as an artist—embracing bold, experimental sounds while remaining true to her roots in pop. It’s an upbeat, catchy song with a deeper message that sticks with you long after the music ends, making it a standout track in the album and a song that I continue to revisit.

Challenge Name: “Coupled Up Cook-Off” The “Coupled Up Cook-Off” is a fun and chaotic culinary challenge designed to test communication, teamwork, and compatibility among the Islanders. With a mix of strategy, humor, and a touch of romance, this challenge is sure to spice things up in the villa—literally! Challenge Overview Islanders pair up with their current partners and are tasked with creating a three-course meal for the judges (other Islanders not participating in the challenge). However, there’s a twist: only one partner can see the recipe, while the other is the chef. The partner reading the recipe must guide the chef step-by-step without physically helping or seeing what’s happening in the kitchen. Setup • A colorful outdoor kitchen station is set up for each couple, complete with all the necessary ingredients and tools. • Each station includes headphones, which the chef must wear, playing music to create a fun distraction. • The judging Islanders are seated nearby, ready to taste and critique the final dishes. Rules 1. Each couple is given 45 minutes to prepare a starter, main course, and dessert. 2. The partner with the recipe cannot physically assist; they can only give verbal instructions. 3. Chefs must wear their headphones and cannot hear anything but their partner’s voice over the music. 4. Bonus Twist: Halfway through, a surprise ingredient is added to each dish, and the couple must figure out how to incorporate it creatively. Judging Criteria • Taste: How delicious is the final dish? • Presentation: How visually appealing is the plate? • Teamwork: How well did the couple communicate and work together? Entertainment Factor The challenge is designed to create hilarious moments as Islanders try to decode instructions or mishear their partners over loud music. Miscommunication leads to kitchen chaos, unusual dishes, and lots of laughs. For instance, someone might hear “sauté the onions” as “spray the lemons,” resulting in hilarious culinary disasters. Outcome The judging Islanders taste each dish and score them. The winning couple earns a romantic dinner for two, cooked by a professional chef, in an exclusive villa setting. The losing couple gets kitchen cleanup duty for the evening. Team USA Fan Scholarship
My favorite athlete to cheer for on Team USA is Simone Biles. She is more than just a gymnast; she is a symbol of resilience, excellence, and authenticity. Watching her perform is an awe-inspiring experience. Her incredible skill, creativity, and mastery of gymnastics have set a new standard for the sport, earning her the title of the most decorated gymnast in history. Simone’s athletic achievements are remarkable, but what truly sets her apart is her courage and advocacy for mental health. During the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, she made the brave decision to prioritize her well-being by withdrawing from several events. While this choice surprised many, it demonstrated an invaluable lesson: even the most elite athletes are human and must prioritize their health. This moment resonated with me deeply, as it reinforced the importance of self-care and recognizing personal limits, even in the face of immense pressure. Additionally, Simone’s advocacy for survivors of abuse and her willingness to use her platform to speak out against injustice have further solidified her as a role model. She inspires me to stand up for what I believe in and to support causes that promote fairness and equality. Cheering for Simone Biles goes beyond her athletic performances. It’s about celebrating someone who embodies strength, grace, and integrity. To encourage young people to pursue philately, I would highlight its educational and creative aspects while making it accessible and engaging. One way to inspire interest is by integrating stamp collecting into school curriculums or after-school programs. For example, educators could use stamps to teach history, geography, or cultural studies, showcasing how stamps reflect pivotal events, iconic figures, and global diversity. Additionally, I would use social media to promote philately, sharing captivating stories about rare or historic stamps and encouraging young collectors to share their collections. Hosting interactive events, like stamp-trading fairs or workshops, would also create a sense of community and excitement around the hobby. By connecting philately to personal interests—such as a love for art, travel, or storytelling. I believe young people would see its value and embrace it as a rewarding and creative pastime.
      Pro-Life Advocates Scholarship
My experiences have profoundly shaped my pro-life position, instilling in me a deep belief in the intrinsic value and dignity of every human life. This perspective is rooted in my upbringing, education, and interactions with diverse communities, which have reinforced the importance of compassion, respect, and advocacy for the most vulnerable among us. Growing up in a close-knit community, I learned early on the significance of supporting one another during times of hardship. I saw how acts of kindness and solidarity could uplift people in moments of vulnerability, teaching me that every life has unique value and deserves protection. These lessons became even more personal as I engaged in advocacy work as a Peer Educator and through leadership roles in various campus organizations. While these roles focused on issues like mental health and wellness, they also reinforced my belief in fostering environments where everyone, especially those who may not have a voice, is valued and supported. My education in Criminal Justice has further solidified my pro-life stance by highlighting the importance of equity and justice for all individuals. I have studied how systemic inequalities often place vulnerable populations, including women and children, at a disadvantage. This understanding has strengthened my commitment to addressing the root causes that lead people to feel unsupported in choosing life, such as poverty, lack of access to education, and inadequate healthcare resources. To promote the value and dignity of all human beings, especially the unborn, I take several intentional actions: 1. Advocacy and Awareness: I participate in discussions and initiatives that raise awareness about the sanctity of life and the importance of supporting women facing unplanned pregnancies. By fostering open, respectful conversations, I aim to create understanding and empathy for both the unborn and the mothers who carry them. 2. Community Support: I volunteer with organizations that provide resources and assistance to women and families in need. This includes supporting programs that offer prenatal care, counseling, and practical resources like diapers, clothing, and housing for mothers who might otherwise feel overwhelmed. 3. Mentorship and Education: Through my role as a peer mentor and advocate, I educate others about the value of life and the resources available to support women and children. By empowering women with knowledge and resources, I hope to create a culture where they feel confident and supported in choosing life. 4. Promoting Policy Change: I am committed to advocating for policies that ensure access to healthcare, affordable childcare, and parental leave. These systemic supports can make a significant difference in helping families thrive and removing barriers to life-affirming choices. Ultimately, my pro-life position is not just about defending the unborn—it is about upholding the dignity and worth of all human beings. It is about creating a world where every person, regardless of their circumstances, is valued and supported. My experiences have taught me that compassion, advocacy, and action are essential in this effort, and I am dedicated to continuing this work in every area of my life.
      Dr. Samuel Attoh Legacy Scholarship
To me, legacy is the lasting impact we leave on the world and the people around us. It’s about more than material possessions or accolades; it’s the values we uphold, the lives we touch, and the positive changes we inspire. Legacy is rooted in the idea of creating something meaningful that outlives us—whether it’s a tradition of service, a contribution to knowledge, or a ripple of kindness that shapes someone else’s future. Legacy, for me, is tied closely to the idea of responsibility. It’s about recognizing the shoulders we stand on—the sacrifices, wisdom, and strength of those who came before us—and deciding how we will use our own lives to build on that foundation. It’s also about breaking cycles of harm or stagnation to pave the way for a better, brighter future. Growing up in Grand Bahama, The Bahamas, my upbringing has been a story of resilience, community, and aspiration. I come from a family that values hard work, kindness, and perseverance, even in the face of adversity. Living in a small island community, I witnessed firsthand how people came together to support one another, especially during challenging times like hurricanes or economic struggles. These experiences instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility toward others and a desire to give back to the communities I’m a part of. At the same time, I’ve also seen the challenges that can arise from systemic inequalities, limited opportunities, and the lasting impacts of colonial history. These realities have shaped my understanding of the world and fueled my desire to pursue a career that addresses these issues head-on. My upbringing taught me to be resourceful and determined, but it also made me deeply aware of the cycles—like poverty, lack of access to education, and inequities in justice—that hold communities back. As I move forward, I plan to continue the positive cycles I’ve inherited—like the values of perseverance, compassion, and community support. These are the legacies I cherish and want to pass on to future generations. I also want to be intentional about breaking cycles of systemic inequity and limited opportunity that I’ve seen around me. In my career in criminal justice and my passion for urban planning, I aim to focus on creating systems that are fairer, more inclusive, and sustainable. Whether through advocating for affordable housing, addressing homelessness, or working to reform inequities in the justice system, I want to be part of solutions that ensure people have the resources and opportunities to thrive. In my personal life, I also strive to break cycles of overwork and neglecting self-care, recognizing the importance of balance and mental health in leaving a legacy of joy and well-being. I want to show others that we can pursue our goals while also prioritizing our well-being, creating a more sustainable path for ourselves and those who look up to us. Legacy, to me, is about the impact we create and the cycles we choose to continue or break. My upbringing has shaped my values and aspirations, giving me the strength to face challenges and the determination to contribute to meaningful change. By carrying forward the lessons I’ve learned and challenging the inequities I’ve observed, I hope to leave a legacy of justice, opportunity, and compassion for others to build upon.
Scholarship for US/Algerian and US/Palestinian Community Members
I am Shania Cartwright, a senior majoring in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Criminalistics. My career goal is to contribute to a world where justice, peace, prosperity, and dignity are not privileges for some but rights for all. I am driven by a commitment to equity, fairness, and inclusion, and I plan to channel my education and experiences into addressing systemic issues that disproportionately affect marginalized communities. Although I am not of Algerian or Palestinian descent, I deeply admire the resilience and contributions of these communities and draw inspiration from their rich histories and ongoing struggles. Algeria and Palestine have both endured colonization, occupation, and struggles for sovereignty, which highlight the importance of justice and dignity for all. These histories resonate with my belief in the power of advocacy and systemic reform to create positive change. How My Personal Experiences Shape My Career Aspirations My upbringing in the Bahamas, a nation with its own colonial past, has helped me empathize with those who have faced historical and systemic oppression. It has shaped my understanding of how the past informs the present and why it’s critical to work toward systems that promote justice and equity. My experiences as a Peer Educator and a leader in campus organizations have reinforced my commitment to serving others and advocating for those whose voices are often overlooked. Making a Positive Impact Toward Justice, Peace, Prosperity, and Dignity Through my career in criminal justice, I plan to address systemic inequities in legal and social structures. My focus is on creating programs and policies that prioritize restorative justice and community empowerment, especially in urban planning and criminal justice reform. Whether working to improve access to affordable housing, addressing homelessness, or reducing recidivism rates, I aim to foster dignity and opportunity for those impacted by injustice. Major Historical and Cultural Influences of Algeria and Palestine Algeria’s independence from French colonial rule in 1962 stands as a testament to resilience and determination in the face of oppression. The Algerian War of Independence was one of the most significant anti-colonial struggles of the 20th century and has inspired countless movements for self-determination. Culturally, Algeria has contributed to literature, with authors like Assia Djebar highlighting the complexities of identity, gender, and resistance. Palestine’s history is marked by the ongoing struggle for statehood and the preservation of cultural identity amidst displacement and occupation. Palestinian literature, such as the works of Mahmoud Darwish, captures the deep yearning for freedom and dignity. In sports, Palestine’s participation in international competitions symbolizes perseverance, while Palestinian cuisine, music, and art have become mediums of cultural expression and resistance. Why These Histories Inspire Me The stories of Algeria and Palestine inspire my belief that justice and dignity are universal rights worth fighting for. Their resilience teaches me that progress requires courage, and their cultural contributions remind me of the richness and beauty that come from preserving identity and advocating for equity. In my career, I aim to honor these lessons by advocating for systems and policies that uphold justice, foster peace, and ensure dignity for all, creating a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
      Charles B. Brazelton Memorial Scholarship
As a child, I always found myself drawn to the idea of helping people, whether through direct support or by solving problems. I didn’t have a clear-cut career goal in mind, but I knew that whatever I did, I wanted it to make a difference. Early on, I was fascinated by the idea of being a detective. I loved watching crime shows with my family and trying to figure out who committed the crime before the characters did. This interest in solving puzzles and mysteries gradually shaped my academic interests and career aspirations. As I got older, my understanding of the world around me deepened, and I became more attuned to social issues. I began to notice the disparities in communities and how the justice system, along with social structures, impacted individuals in different ways. I started considering how I could contribute not only to solving problems but also to making systems fairer and more equitable. This led me to my current path in Criminal Justice, focusing on Criminalistics, where I study the science behind crime scene investigation and evidence analysis. I’ve learned that my childhood fascination with solving mysteries can be combined with my desire to make a real, positive impact on society. While my childhood dreams of being a detective still influence my academic pursuits, my goals have evolved significantly. Initially, I thought the only way to help others in a meaningful way was through law enforcement or criminal investigations. However, as I’ve gained more experience and knowledge, especially through my work as a Peer Educator and in various leadership roles, I’ve realized that there are many different ways to contribute to justice and equity. My work in leadership and advocacy, particularly with the PAWS (Peer Advocacy Wellness and Support) club, has made me passionate about wellness, mental health, and creating inclusive communities. These interests have deepened my commitment to promoting social justice in ways that go beyond just solving crimes. My current focus in criminal justice has expanded into areas of systemic reform, such as addressing issues like homelessness, affordable housing, and the impacts of gentrification—issues I’m passionate about as I seek to create a fairer society. While I may not have imagined working in urban planning or economics when I was younger, I now see these fields as interconnected with criminal justice, especially when considering how systemic issues affect vulnerable communities. This shift in focus shows me that while I’m not pursuing the exact career I imagined as a child, my goals are still rooted in helping people and improving the systems that shape their lives. In many ways, my career path has evolved as I’ve grown and learned more about the world, but the core of my childhood dream—helping people and making a positive impact on society—remains the same. I still want to solve problems and advocate for those who are often overlooked or marginalized. My current focus on criminal justice, combined with my interest in urban planning and social reform, reflects how my childhood dream of making a difference has expanded into a more comprehensive and impactful career goal.
      BIPOC Urban Innovators Scholarship
My name is Shania Cartwright, and I am currently a senior studying Criminal Justice with a focus on Criminalistics. While my academic background has been rooted in justice and forensic science, my passion for creating equitable and sustainable urban environments has grown from my personal experiences and deep interest in social issues like homelessness, gentrification, and affordable housing. Originally from Grand Bahama, Bahamas, I have always been aware of the ways communities are shaped by systemic issues. Growing up, I witnessed the effects of inequality and lack of resources, which inspired me to pursue a career where I could actively contribute to positive change. Throughout my time in college, I have been involved in various leadership roles and community-based initiatives, including my work with the PAWS (Peer Advocacy Wellness and Support) club, where I advocated for mental health awareness and wellness. These experiences have honed my leadership skills and my commitment to social justice. Although my current academic path is centered on criminal justice, I’ve developed a growing interest in urban planning and economics, particularly because of the interconnectedness between justice, housing, and urban development. I have seen firsthand how gentrification displaces vulnerable communities and how inadequate housing options contribute to homelessness. These issues are deeply personal to me, as I believe that everyone deserves access to safe, affordable housing and an environment where they can thrive. In the future, I plan to make a positive impact in urban planning and economics by focusing on creating policies and urban designs that address homelessness, promote affordable housing, and prevent harmful gentrification. By working with local governments, urban developers, and advocacy groups, I aim to create cities that are sustainable, equitable, and inclusive. This might involve advocating for mixed-use zoning, developing affordable housing initiatives, or designing sustainable infrastructure that caters to the needs of marginalized communities. What drives me to pursue this path is the belief that cities should be spaces where all residents can live with dignity and opportunity. I am passionate about finding solutions that balance development with social responsibility. By addressing homelessness, ensuring affordable housing, and promoting sustainability, I hope to contribute to a future where urban spaces foster equality, environmental stewardship, and a high quality of life for all residents. My goal is to combine my academic foundation in justice with my growing interest in urban planning to make cities more inclusive and sustainable. I am motivated by the belief that positive urban transformation can reduce inequality and create spaces where communities can flourish together.
      Black Excellence Scholarship
      1. Embodying the Attribute: Thrive with an Indomitable Will The attribute I most strongly embody is “Thrive with an Indomitable Will.” This quality resonates deeply with me because it has been a driving force throughout my academic and personal journey. Growing up in Grand Bahama, Bahamas, I faced challenges that made me realize early on the importance of resilience and perseverance. Life isn’t always straightforward, and there have been moments when I’ve felt overwhelmed by obstacles. However, it’s in those moments that my indomitable will has kept me going, pushing me to continue working toward my goals despite setbacks. For example, during my time in college, balancing rigorous coursework, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments often felt like an uphill battle. There were times when I doubted my abilities or wondered if I could keep up with the demands. But each time I encountered difficulty, I reminded myself of my purpose and my ultimate goal: to contribute meaningfully to my community and the field of criminal justice. My determination has been reinforced by my experiences as a Peer Educator for the Violence Education Prevention Program, where I’ve seen how persistence can inspire change in others. My ability to thrive through adversity has also been reflected in my involvement with the PAWS (Peer Advocacy Wellness and Support) club. As I’ve worked to create supportive environments for others while managing my own challenges, I’ve learned the value of tenacity. I understand that resilience isn’t about avoiding failure but about embracing setbacks as opportunities to learn, adapt, and grow. This mentality has shaped my approach to both my personal and academic life. Whether I’m preparing for a challenging exam or mentoring a peer, I approach everything with the mindset that success comes not from avoiding hardship but from facing it head-on. I believe that by maintaining an unwavering belief in my ability to overcome obstacles, I can inspire others to do the same. Thriving with an indomitable will is not just a mindset for me; it’s a way of life that I practice every day. 2. Plan for Improvement: Prioritize and Manage Time While I feel confident in many of the attributes of Black Excellence, the one area I recognize as my greatest opportunity for growth is “Prioritize and Manage Time.” As a student, I juggle many responsibilities, including academics, extracurricular activities, and personal commitments. There are times when I find myself struggling to balance everything effectively, which can lead to stress and last-minute cramming for exams or rushing to complete assignments. To improve in this area, I’ve developed a plan that focuses on three key strategies: better organization, setting clear goals, and incorporating self-care into my schedule. First, I will focus on becoming more organized. Currently, I use a basic planner, but I plan to switch to a more detailed system that includes weekly and monthly overviews, where I can break down my tasks into smaller, manageable steps. This will help me see my schedule at a glance and prevent me from overlooking important deadlines. Second, I will work on setting clearer, more realistic goals. By breaking my long-term goals into smaller, more achievable steps, I can ensure that I am consistently making progress without feeling overwhelmed. I’ll also incorporate a system of prioritizing my tasks based on urgency and importance, allowing me to focus on what needs attention first. This will help me tackle my responsibilities more strategically rather than reacting to them last-minute. Finally, I will commit to incorporating self-care into my time management plan. It’s easy for me to fall into the trap of overworking myself, but I’ve realized that balance is key to maintaining long-term productivity. Scheduling regular breaks, practicing mindfulness, and ensuring I get enough rest will improve my ability to manage time effectively. By taking these steps, I plan to become more proactive in managing my time, which will not only reduce stress but also enhance my overall performance in both academic and personal areas. I am confident that improving my time management skills will help me achieve my goals more efficiently and lead to a more balanced, fulfilling life.
      Emma Jane Hastie Scholarship
My name is Shania Cartwright, and I’m from the beautiful island of Grand Bahama, Bahamas. I’m currently a senior majoring in Criminal Justice with a focus on Criminalistics, and I’m passionate about creating positive change in my community. Over the years, I’ve learned that service is not just about giving back but about building connections, fostering understanding, and uplifting those around me. One of the most meaningful times I made a positive impact on my community was during my role as a Peer Educator for the Violence Education Prevention Program. This program focused on raising awareness about issues like domestic violence, consent, and healthy relationships, which are often difficult but necessary conversations to have. My role involved organizing workshops, facilitating discussions, and supporting peers who needed a safe space to share their experiences. I remember one particular workshop where we discussed the signs of unhealthy relationships. A participant approached me afterward and shared that they recognized some of the warning signs in their own relationship. They felt unsure about what to do next but were grateful for the resources and support the program provided. This interaction reminded me why I chose to get involved in this work—it’s about empowering people with knowledge and giving them the tools to make informed decisions for their well-being. Beyond the immediate impact, this experience taught me the power of listening and empathy. It wasn’t just about delivering information; it was about creating an environment where people felt heard and valued. I saw firsthand how small acts of service, like lending an ear or offering guidance, could ripple outward and make a lasting difference in someone’s life. Serving my community in this way has shaped how I view leadership and responsibility. It reinforced my belief that creating change doesn’t always require grand gestures—it starts with a willingness to show up, engage, and care. This mindset has carried over into other areas of my life, from mentoring new students as an Orientation Leader to advocating for wellness and support through the PAWS club. Service has become a core part of who I am, and it continues to inspire me to seek out opportunities to make a difference. Whether through education, advocacy, or simply being there for someone in need, I believe that serving others is one of the most impactful ways we can contribute to our communities. Looking back on these experiences, I’m proud of the positive impact I’ve made, but I’m also deeply humbled by the lessons I’ve learned. They’ve shaped me into a person who values connection, compassion, and the power of giving back—and I’m committed to carrying those values with me as I continue to grow and serve.

      Concrete Rose Scholarship Award
My story begins in Grand Bahama, Bahamas, a place where resilience is a way of life. Growing up, I was surrounded by the vibrant culture and strength of my community, but I also witnessed the challenges that come with limited resources and opportunities. These experiences shaped my determination to pursue education as a pathway to creating a better future—not just for myself, but for others as well. As a first-generation college student, navigating higher education has been both exciting and overwhelming. I’m currently a senior majoring in Criminal Justice with a focus on Criminalistics. My passion lies in understanding the science behind justice—evidence collection, preservation, and documentation—and using this knowledge to ensure fairness and accountability in our legal systems. However, pursuing this dream has not been without its hurdles. Like the inspiration behind the Concrete Rose Scholarship, I’ve faced my share of challenges. Transitioning to college life meant learning to balance academics, work, and leadership roles, often without a roadmap. Financial struggles have added to the pressure, making it difficult to focus entirely on my studies. Despite these obstacles, I’ve leaned on my resilience and commitment to push forward. The Concrete Rose Scholarship would be transformative for my journey. Beyond easing the financial burden, it represents something even greater: a vote of confidence in my potential. With this support, I would be able to dedicate more time to excelling in my coursework, gaining hands-on experience, and pursuing opportunities that enhance my understanding of criminal justice. My ultimate goal is to make a meaningful impact in the field of forensic science, contributing to a justice system that is equitable and transparent. I also aim to mentor and inspire young women of color who, like me, may not always see themselves represented in this field. This scholarship would not only bring me closer to achieving these goals but would also remind me of the power of community and the importance of paying it forward. The Concrete Rose Scholarship’s mission aligns perfectly with my vision. It symbolizes the belief that, with the right resources and encouragement, women of color can flourish and create ripples of change. For me, this scholarship is more than financial assistance—it’s a reminder that my story matters and that my dreams are worth pursuing. In many ways, I see myself as a concrete rose, growing through challenges and finding strength in the cracks. With the support of this scholarship, I am confident that I can continue to bloom and, in turn, help others do the same. Together, we can create a world where stories like ours inspire generations to come.
      Maggie's Way- International Woman’s Scholarship
Reading about Malgorzata’s challenges feels like looking into a mirror in many ways. Her experiences resonate deeply because they reflect struggles that I, too, have faced. Whether it’s balancing responsibilities, navigating self-doubt, or finding strength in the face of adversity, Malgorzata’s story is one of perseverance, which makes her someone I can truly relate to. One way I connect with Malgorzata is through her determination to succeed despite the odds. Life has a way of throwing challenges our way, whether it’s academic pressure, personal setbacks, or the weight of expectations. Like her, I’ve had moments where I’ve questioned my abilities or felt overwhelmed by the tasks in front of me. Yet, much like Malgorzata, I’ve learned that pushing through those moments—not perfectly, but with resilience—can lead to growth and self-discovery. Malgorzata’s struggle to balance multiple roles is another area where I see myself in her story. As a student, I often juggle academics, extracurricular activities, and personal relationships. Add in the desire to take care of my mental health, and it’s easy to feel stretched thin. I imagine Malgorzata felt the same way as she worked to manage her challenges. Her story reminds me that it’s okay to take things one step at a time and that asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness but a sign of strength. Another way I relate to Malgorzata is her drive to make an impact on her community. She seems to carry a sense of responsibility to not only better herself but also contribute to the lives of others. This aligns closely with my values, as I’ve always believed in using my skills and experiences to uplift those around me. Whether it’s mentoring others, advocating for wellness, or creating inclusive spaces, I see parallels between her story and my own aspirations. Of course, there are ways I differ from Malgorzata as well. Her circumstances might be unique, or her responses to challenges may reflect a personality trait or strength that I admire but am still working on developing. For example, she might approach adversity with a kind of grace or patience that I sometimes struggle to find in myself. These differences, though, only deepen my respect for her and motivate me to continue learning and growing. Ultimately, Malgorzata’s challenges serve as a reminder that we are never alone in what we face. Her story inspires me to keep striving, even when the path is difficult, and to recognize the shared humanity in our struggles. Like her, I aim to find resilience within myself and to channel that resilience into becoming the best version of myself—not just for me, but for those around me. Thank you for considering me as a potential recipient!
Online ADHD Diagnosis Mental Health Scholarship for Women
Mental health is a cornerstone of every aspect of life, and as a student, its effects on my academic performance and personal life are undeniable. The pressure to excel in classes, participate in extracurricular activities, and maintain relationships can feel overwhelming at times. When my mental health is stable, I’m able to meet these demands with energy, focus, and a sense of purpose. However, when it’s not, even the simplest tasks can feel insurmountable. Recognizing this has been a journey of self-awareness and learning how to prioritize my well-being. Academically, mental health plays a direct role in how I perform. On days when I feel stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed, my ability to concentrate diminishes. It’s hard to retain information or even feel motivated to start assignments when my mind is preoccupied with worries or self-doubt. During particularly tough times, I’ve noticed how easy it is to fall into a cycle of procrastination, which only adds to the stress. However, when I actively manage my mental health, I can approach my studies with a clear mind and a proactive attitude. For me, balance is key: knowing when to push myself and when to take a step back has been vital to maintaining academic success. In my personal life, mental health affects how I connect with others. When I’m feeling mentally strong, I’m more patient, open, and able to nurture my relationships. I can contribute to conversations and genuinely enjoy spending time with friends and family. On the other hand, when I’m feeling low, I tend to isolate myself, which can unintentionally strain those relationships. Over time, I’ve learned to communicate honestly about how I’m feeling, which has helped me strengthen my connections instead of letting them suffer in silence. So, what steps do I take to make my mental health a priority? It starts with self-awareness—being able to recognize when I’m not feeling like myself. When I notice signs of stress or burnout, I make a conscious effort to take small but meaningful actions. For example, I carve out time for activities that bring me joy, like dancing, listening to music, or simply taking a walk. These moments of calm help me recharge and refocus. I also lean on the support systems available to me. Whether it’s talking to a trusted friend, seeking guidance from a mentor, or using resources like counseling services, I’ve found that sharing what I’m going through helps lighten the load. Additionally, I practice setting boundaries, both academically and socially. Learning to say “no” when I need time for myself has been empowering and has helped me avoid overcommitting. One of the most transformative steps I’ve taken is integrating mindfulness into my routine. Whether it’s journaling, meditating, or even practicing gratitude, these small habits ground me in the present moment and help me let go of the pressure to be perfect. Ultimately, prioritizing my mental health is an ongoing process, not a one-time solution. It requires intentional effort, self-compassion, and a willingness to adapt as my needs change. By making my mental health a priority, I’ve learned how to navigate the challenges of school while maintaining a sense of balance and authenticity in my life. This journey has taught me that success is not just about grades or accomplishments—it’s also about feeling fulfilled, connected, and at peace with myself. Thank you for considering me!
