Since I was a young girl, I wanted to help my community. So, I thought I would become a pediatrician, based on the suggestions of my family. I always thought I would become a doctor, but I kept changing the specialty I would do. It was not until the 11th grade that I realized I no longer wanted to be a doctor. Of course, I still wanted to help people, but I realized I wanted to do it in a different way. After watching a video in my healthcare class about regenerative medicine, I was convinced that biomedical engineering is the path of study I wanted to pursue. As a biomedical engineer, I would love to focus on regenerative medicine. When I study regenerative medicine, I would specifically explore tissue engineering to help people get off the transplant waiting list and receive life-saving treatment. I would additionally like to study prosthetics and making them safer to use when going for a biomedical engineering degree. This scholarship money would make it easier for me to pursue my dreams and it would end up helping me make great contributions to the field. Additionally, my mother will be able to focus more on paying the bills and taking care of my brother rather than worrying about how to help me with my college education cost.
