Bio

I am a graduate student who has just begun my journey of becoming a counselor. I feel as though it is the greatest privilege to be able to serve my community's mental health needs. Through the last couple years, I have realized how mental health touches every part of our lives, for better or for worse. I am passionate about holistic health including physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing. I often find myself advocating for those who have experienced trauma and have served in my community as a minister and a volunteer. I am a follower of Jesus and seek to honor Him in everything I do.

    Natalie Joy Poremski Scholarship
This scholarship is very near and dear to my heart. God radically transformed my life, passions, and beliefs in 2016 when I was a sophomore in college. He saved me through the power of His Word, and I believe what His Word says, including that conception is the beginning of life. Before becoming a believer, I wasn't passionate about anything. When it comes to my future goals and career path, my faith changed everything. I was on track to becoming a pharmacist but I realized the only thing I was passionate about was Jesus Christ. That was when I felt God calling me into ministry. Over the past couple years, as God has grown and developed me, I have seen my innate gifting of empathy and listening continuously being highlighted. He has confirmed this time and time again as He has showed me the way He works through my life as a vessel for healing. It is because of this that I have decided to pursue an education and career in Christian counseling. I have been passionate about life ever since coming to faith, but have not been sure what to do with my passion until recently. It truly broke my heart when many Christians around me were disappointed by the overturning of Roe v. Wade recently. I could not believe they thought it was better for abortion to be legal. Since this was something I was passionate about, I felt God calling me to volunteer at a local Christian pregnancy clinic: Haven Health. I have been volunteering there for about 7 months now and have been trained as a client advocate. In my role I get to meet with women who come in looking for care and pray on their behalf that they would choose to carry their child. We support them through parenting classes, resources, and medical care. Although I am not yet a mother myself, it is a great honor to be able to care for these women while being psychologically and spiritually informed. It is my hope and prayer that God will use my education in counseling to provide me with unique opportunities to advocate for the protection of all stages of life. Through my experience in the pregnancy clinic, I have realized that many women who are contemplating abortion have a history of abuse. I have also seen that abortion often produces the opposite of what they hope for, and the medical education/information they receive is slim to none. Not only is it horrific for the child whose life was ended, but it's also horrific for the mothers. In order to protect the life they are carrying, I think it is of utmost importance that these vulnerable women get the help they need. I would love to be able to continue to minister to women with a history of trauma. I am very much in need of financial support in order to pursue these dreams. It would be the greatest honor to receive this scholarship in honor of Natalie. Her life is and was so precious and I am so glad her mother chose to advocate for her daughter's life.
