Carolyn Craddock Memorial Scholarship
Living with type 1 diabetes has presented many challenges, but it has also shaped me into a stronger, more determined, and compassionate individual. Like Carolyn Craddock, I have learned to embrace adversity with resilience, kindness, and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
Being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a young age meant quickly adapting to a lifestyle that required constant monitoring of my glucose levels, administering insulin, and making critical decisions about my diet and exercise. Unlike many of my peers, I have had to balance school, sports, and extracurricular activities while ensuring my health remains a priority. Despite these challenges, I have refused to let diabetes define or limit me. Instead, I have used my experiences to educate others, advocate for awareness, and prove that those with diabetes can lead active and fulfilling lives.
One of the biggest challenges I have faced is participating in sports while managing my diabetes. I have always been passionate about athletics, but the unpredictable nature of blood sugar levels often made it difficult to compete at my best. There were times when I had to step off the field due to low blood sugar, missing crucial moments in games or events. However, rather than letting this discourage me, I learned to prepare better, monitor my glucose levels more closely, and educate my teammates and coaches about my condition. Through this process, I have built a strong support system, ensuring that I can continue to pursue my passion without compromising my health.
Beyond sports, I have also been deeply involved in volunteer work, focusing on helping younger children with type 1 diabetes understand that they are not alone. I have worked with local diabetes support groups, mentoring newly diagnosed children and their families. I share my experiences, tips for managing daily life, and encouragement that diabetes does not have to be a barrier to achieving one's dreams. Just as Carolyn was inclusive and supportive, I strive to create a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and empowered.
Academically, I have always been ambitious, taking on rigorous coursework while balancing my extracurricular activities and part-time job. Managing diabetes on top of this has required discipline and resilience. Late nights studying were often interrupted by blood sugar fluctuations, and stressful exams sometimes triggered unpredictable spikes. Through it all, I have developed strong time management and problem-solving skills that I know will serve me well in college and beyond.
Carolyn’s legacy of kindness, determination, and advocacy resonates deeply with me. Like her, I believe in standing up for others, embracing diversity, and working hard to achieve my goals. I am honored to apply for this scholarship, not just as a way to support my education, but as an opportunity to continue spreading awareness and inspiring others who face similar challenges. Diabetes may be a part of my life, but it will never define my potential or limit my aspirations.
Gregory Chase Carter Memorial Scholarship
One of my favorite community events was when we made care bags for the homeless. We packed them with snacks, soap, tissues, and other essentials to help make their days a little easier. At first, I joined just to help out, but by the end, it completely changed how I saw homeless people.
Growing up, my parents always told me that homeless people were just bums who did not work. That was what I believed for a long time. I used to think they were in that situation because they were lazy or made bad choices. I never really thought about how they got there or what they were going through. But during this event, I got to see them up close, hear their stories, and understand that many of them were not in that situation by choice. Some had lost their jobs, others had gone through tough times like medical issues or family problems, and a lot of them just needed a little support to get back on their feet. It made me realize how wrong my old perspective was.
One of the most memorable moments was when we handed out the bags and actually spoke with the people receiving them. I expected them to just take the bags and move on, but a lot of them were so grateful and wanted to talk. Some of them shared their experiences and struggles, and it made me realize how easily someone’s life can change. A few people even talked about how they used to have jobs, homes, and families, but certain things happened that put them in a bad place. It made me think about how different my life could be if I had been born into different circumstances.
Because of this experience, I would love to see more programs that do not just give out essentials but also help people rebuild their lives. Things like job training programs, access to affordable housing, or even more community events that allow people to connect and understand each other. A lot of people judge the homeless without ever talking to them or learning their stories, just like I used to. I hope events like this one help change that.
This event showed me that homelessness is not just about not working hard enough. It is something that can happen to anyone. And most importantly, it reminded me that everyone deserves kindness and dignity no matter their situation.
First-Gen Flourishing Scholarship
As I approach my graduation and prepare for college, I have spent a lot of time reflecting on the obstacles that have shaped me. I have been fortunate enough to have two parents who love and support me, but their support has been very different in nature. My father has always been there, but he is more of a “Plan B” type of person. His support is often about telling me to settle for less than what I want, especially when it comes to my college aspirations. I know his advice comes from a good place, but it is shaped by his own life experiences, where dreams were often limited by financial or personal challenges.
On the other hand, my mother has been the one to push me to aim higher and never accept anything less than my best. She has been through so much, growing up in a family where higher education was not the norm. Her parents did not have the resources or the mindset to encourage college for their children. But my mother defied those odds. She worked incredibly hard to ensure that I did not face the same limitations she did. I am so thankful for her because, despite her own challenges and the lack of encouragement she received, she chose to be different. She chose to push me and my siblings toward something better. Even when money was tight, she always found ways to make things work and reminded me that if you are determined enough, you can achieve your dreams.
Her story has had a huge impact on me. It has shaped how I see education and the role it plays in my future. Education, for me, is not just about personal success. It is about breaking cycles and creating opportunities for those who do not have access to them. I have seen so many young people in my community who face the same obstacles I have dealt with, whether it is a lack of support or not knowing how to navigate the path to college. That is why I have always tried to give back to my community—through volunteer work, mentoring, or simply being a role model. I know how much it means to have someone who believes in you, and I want to offer that support to others.
As a first-generation college student, I know that financial challenges are one of the biggest barriers I face in pursuing higher education. But I also know that education is the key to overcoming those barriers. This scholarship will help me continue my studies and pursue a career in health science, with a focus on pediatric radiology. I plan to use my education to give back to my community, especially to kids who might not otherwise have access to medical care. I want to be a role model, just like my mom was for me, and show young people that they can achieve their dreams no matter where they come from.
In the end, the challenges I have faced have driven me to work harder and push further. I am determined to break the cycle of limited opportunities and make a positive impact on my community, just as my mother did for me. This scholarship will not only help me achieve my goals, but it will also enable me to inspire others to do the same.
Empower Her Scholarship
Empowerment, to me, means having the strength and confidence to overcome obstacles, take charge of my own future, and inspire others to do the same. It is the ability to break free from the limitations imposed by society or circumstances and rise to meet challenges head-on. Empowerment is not just about individual success, but also about lifting others as you climb. Throughout my life, I’ve been motivated by the belief that empowerment is rooted in knowledge, opportunity, and the willingness to push boundaries for a better future.
As a high school senior, I have actively sought to empower myself and those around me through leadership roles. In my community, I have participated in the Interact Club, where I worked on various service projects aimed at making a difference. These experiences have taught me that leadership is not about having a title, but about taking initiative, listening to others, and being a source of support and guidance. I’ve learned that true empowerment comes from helping others realize their potential and giving them the tools they need to succeed. Whether it’s mentoring younger students or organizing events, I’ve always sought to lead by example and encourage others to pursue their goals without hesitation.
Empowerment has shaped my life in several ways, particularly when it comes to my academic journey. Growing up in a family with financial struggles, I’ve had to be resourceful and determined to overcome obstacles. My mother, a single parent, has been my greatest role model. She has taught me that, despite the challenges we face, we always have the ability to create change in our lives through hard work and persistence. Seeing her sacrifice so much to provide for me has made me deeply appreciate the importance of education and has fueled my desire to continue my studies in healthcare, specifically in pediatric radiology or OB/GYN. However, like many women, financial limitations are a barrier that I must face to achieve my academic goals. This scholarship would give me the support I need to pursue higher education and continue working toward a career where I can make a difference in the lives of others.
Empowerment has also played a crucial role in how I view the world. I believe that when women are empowered, they can make significant changes, not only in their personal lives but also in the world around them. As women continue to face barriers in many aspects of life, it is essential that we support each other and continue striving to break down those walls. I want to contribute to the ongoing fight for gender equality by empowering other young women to pursue careers in fields where they are underrepresented, such as medicine. By becoming a doctor, I hope to show young girls that their dreams are possible, no matter their background or circumstances.
In conclusion, empowerment is a driving force in my life. It means having the strength to face challenges, the confidence to lead, and the passion to help others. My goal is to use the opportunities I’ve been given to empower myself and others, particularly young women who may face the same financial and societal barriers I’ve experienced. With the support of this scholarship, I would be able to continue my education and make a positive impact on my community and beyond.
Hester Richardson Powell Memorial Service Scholarship
Throughout my life, I’ve faced several challenges that have shaped me into the resilient individual I am today. Much like Hester Richardson Powell, I have learned to overcome barriers and persevere in the face of adversity, drawing strength from my experiences to inspire others. One of the most formative challenges I encountered was growing up with a single mother who worked tirelessly to support our family. Though my father was involved in my life, his health complications, including kidney failure, limited his ability to provide financial assistance. I’ve witnessed firsthand the struggles that can arise when finances are scarce, and it was these experiences that taught me the importance of resilience.
Resilience is not just about enduring hardships—it’s about turning those challenges into opportunities for growth. I’ve always been determined to succeed academically, even when the odds seemed stacked against me. Throughout high school, I’ve worked hard to maintain a strong GPA, despite the personal and financial obstacles my family has faced. I have taken Advanced Placement courses and participated in dual enrollment classes to ensure that I am prepared for the academic demands of college. I’ve also been involved in community service through the Interact Club, where I’ve had the opportunity to help others and learn the value of giving back, just like Hester did in her own community.
What has driven me to stay focused and committed to my goals is my desire to make a difference in the lives of others. I have always been passionate about healthcare and plan to pursue a career in pediatric radiology or OB/GYN. I know that many young people, especially in underserved communities, face barriers similar to the ones I’ve encountered. It’s my hope that by pursuing a career in medicine, I can inspire others to overcome their own challenges and pursue their dreams, just as I’ve done. Hester Richardson Powell’s example of resilience and service to her community is one I deeply admire, and I hope to follow in her footsteps by making a meaningful impact in the world of healthcare.
This scholarship would allow me to further my education and continue on the path I’ve set for myself. It would relieve some of the financial burdens of college, giving me the opportunity to focus on my studies and achieve my goals without the added stress of financial hardship. I am determined to use the education I receive to give back to my community and inspire others to persevere through their own challenges, just as I have. Hester’s legacy of resilience and service is a powerful reminder of the difference one person can make, and I am committed to carrying that spirit forward in my own life and work.
Norman C. Nelson IV Memorial Scholarship
I am a high school senior passionate about healthcare, and I am determined to pursue a career in medicine, particularly in pediatric radiology or OB/GYN. Throughout my life, I have seen how impactful medical professionals can be. As a child, I observed my mother, a single parent, make incredible sacrifices to ensure I received the care I needed. Despite her best efforts, I’ve also realized how difficult it can be to navigate the healthcare system when financial barriers stand in the way. My father, although present in my life, has struggled with significant health issues, including kidney failure. He will soon need dialysis. Watching him endure these challenges has only strengthened my resolve to pursue a career where I can make a meaningful impact on others’ lives.
My desire to pursue medicine stems from a deep passion to help those who are vulnerable. I’ve always been fascinated by the human body and its intricacies, but as I’ve grown older, my interest has evolved into wanting to use that knowledge to make a real difference in others’ lives. Pediatric radiology and OB/GYN are fields I am particularly drawn to because they allow me to work with children and women, two groups who often face complex and unique medical challenges. My goal is to be part of a healthcare system that not only treats patients but also offers them care, compassion, and support during some of the most vulnerable times of their lives.
The challenges I’ve faced in my own life have shaped my desire to become a healthcare provider. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the financial struggles my mother faced while supporting our family. Although my father has always been a part of my life, his health issues have limited his ability to contribute financially. My family’s experience with healthcare has made me acutely aware of the financial burdens many families face when seeking medical treatment. This awareness has driven me to pursue a career in medicine and advocate for better healthcare accessibility, especially for underserved communities.
This scholarship would be crucial in helping me achieve my educational goals. I plan to attend California Baptist University to major in Health Science on the pre-med track. The financial assistance this scholarship offers would allow me to focus on my studies and academic success, rather than worry about the financial burden of higher education. With my family’s financial challenges, scholarships like this one are vital for me to continue my education and work toward my future career.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I have always been committed to making a positive impact on my community. I have volunteered in various community service projects and have worked with young people to raise awareness about important health issues such as bullying, mental health, and healthy living. I believe that preventing health problems before they occur is just as important as treating them, which is why I’m passionate about promoting health education. As I continue my education, I hope to become involved in initiatives that promote wellness and improve access to healthcare for underserved populations.
In conclusion, my passion for medicine is driven by a deep desire to help others, particularly those who face both financial and healthcare challenges. I am determined to make a difference by pursuing a career in pediatric radiology or OB/GYN, where I can provide specialized care for children and women in need. This scholarship would provide me with the financial support necessary to achieve my goals and further my education. I am committed to advancing in the medical field and making a positive impact on the lives of others.
Julie Adams Memorial Scholarship – Women in STEM
I am passionate about pursuing a degree in Health Science because it provides me with the opportunity to merge my interest in science with my desire to help others. Growing up, I always found myself fascinated by the human body, how it works, how it can be healed, and the many ways that medicine and science can improve people’s lives. As I’ve matured, my curiosity about healthcare has evolved into a desire to contribute to the well-being of others, particularly children and underserved populations.
From a young age, I had a unique perspective on the importance of healthcare. Growing up with a single mother, I saw firsthand the sacrifices she made to ensure I had the tools I needed to succeed. Despite her unwavering dedication, navigating the healthcare system was often challenging for our family. I remember the frustration of seeing my mother stress over medical bills, balancing work, and making sure I was well cared for despite limited resources. My father, although not absent from my life, wasn’t as involved as he could have been. His health struggles, including kidney failure, have shown me the complexities of long-term health conditions and the strain they can put on families.
My father’s health issues have been especially eye-opening. He will soon need dialysis, and watching him face this challenge has reinforced my determination to pursue a career where I can make a difference. Not only do I want to help people like my father who are facing serious health concerns, but I also want to ensure that families like mine don’t feel the burden of healthcare costs and accessibility issues. I am particularly interested in pediatric radiology and OB/GYN because these fields allow me to work with vulnerable populations. I want to combine my love for science with my drive to help children and women, two groups that often require specialized care and support.
Pursuing a degree in Health Science allows me to address a wide range of healthcare issues. The field offers a combination of scientific knowledge, technical skills, and the ability to advocate for the people who need healthcare the most. I am excited to study subjects like anatomy, physiology, and medical ethics, which will provide me with the foundation I need to work in specialized fields like pediatric radiology and OB/GYN. What excites me about the future of healthcare is the constant innovation in medicine. New technologies, treatments, and medical discoveries are always emerging, and I look forward to being part of a system that is continually evolving to meet the needs of patients.
In addition to the scientific and technical aspects, I am also deeply drawn to the human side of healthcare. I believe that providing high-quality care goes beyond just knowing the science. It requires empathy, communication, and a deep understanding of the emotional and social needs of patients. One of my goals as a healthcare provider is to be someone who not only treats patients but also listens to their concerns, understands their backgrounds, and provides them with the support they need during difficult times. Pediatric radiology and OB/GYN are fields where compassion and understanding are crucial, as they involve working with children and women, two groups that often require specialized care and support.
Another reason I am passionate about pursuing this degree is because of the opportunity it provides to combine my scientific interests with my desire to help others. I’ve always loved science, particularly biology, because it allows me to understand how the body works and how diseases and medical conditions affect it. In addition to the technical knowledge, a Health Science degree will also teach me how to communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. Communication is a critical skill in the medical field because it enables healthcare providers to explain complex medical concepts in ways that patients can understand, as well as build trust and rapport with patients. I believe that good communication is just as important as medical expertise when it comes to providing quality care, and I am eager to develop these skills further.
Beyond the technical and scientific aspects of healthcare, I also see my career in healthcare as an opportunity to make a broader impact on public health. In today’s world, healthcare is not just about treating individuals but also about improving systems and policies to ensure that everyone has access to the care they need. As someone who has seen firsthand how difficult it can be to access quality healthcare, I am passionate about addressing the disparities that exist in our healthcare system. I am particularly interested in working to improve healthcare access for underserved communities, where people may face financial, cultural, or logistical barriers to obtaining care. By studying Health Science, I hope to gain a comprehensive understanding of the ways in which healthcare systems function and how I can contribute to making those systems more inclusive and effective for all people, regardless of their background or circumstances.
One of the things I appreciate most about a Health Science degree is that it is not just about treating illnesses. It is also about promoting wellness and preventing disease. I believe that preventive care is one of the most powerful tools we have in healthcare. By focusing on prevention, we can improve quality of life, reduce healthcare costs, and address health disparities before they become more serious issues. I plan to use the knowledge I gain through this degree to advocate for public health initiatives that promote healthier lifestyles and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. I am particularly interested in working with children and families to promote healthy habits and prevent conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.
In college, I plan to take full advantage of the opportunities available to me in the Health Science program. I look forward to engaging in hands-on experiences, such as internships and clinical rotations, where I can gain practical skills and deepen my understanding of healthcare. I am also excited about the possibility of participating in research, which will allow me to explore new developments in medicine and healthcare. I plan to take part in clubs and organizations that will allow me to connect with other students who share my passion for healthcare and contribute to initiatives that support health education and awareness.
Ultimately, my goal is to use my degree in Health Science to become a healthcare provider who not only treats patients but also advocates for a more equitable healthcare system. I want to help bridge the gap between those who have access to quality care and those who don’t, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to lead a healthy life. Through my career, I hope to make a positive impact on the world by improving healthcare access, promoting wellness, and contributing to medical advancements that can save lives and improve the quality of life for countless individuals.
Ryan Stripling “Words Create Worlds” Scholarship for Young Writers
I’ve always loved writing because it allows me to express my thoughts and emotions in a way that is both personal and impactful. Whether it’s crafting an essay, writing in my journal, or even creating stories, writing gives me a space to explore my ideas and connect with others. It’s a form of creativity that feels both freeing and grounding, and it helps me process the world around me. Through writing, I’ve been able to communicate complex feelings and share my experiences with others, something I find incredibly fulfilling.
What I love most about writing is how it can serve as a bridge between my inner world and the world around me. It allows me to reflect on my experiences and use those reflections to engage with others. Writing has helped me build confidence in myself, as it allows me to articulate my thoughts clearly and organize them in a way that makes sense. It has been a way for me to understand my own perspective and also to communicate with those around me in a deeper, more meaningful way.
Currently, I’m taking AP Literature, and this class has helped me deepen my understanding of writing while improving my analytical and creative skills. Reading a variety of texts and analyzing different writing styles has broadened my perspective and given me tools to express myself more effectively. AP Literature has also taught me the importance of considering multiple viewpoints and conveying ideas with clarity and purpose, skills I plan to continue developing in college.
In college, I plan to continue writing not only as a way to complete assignments but also as a means of personal growth and expression. I am eager to take advantage of the various writing courses offered and explore different genres and styles. I also plan to join writing clubs or workshops where I can refine my skills and collaborate with other students who share my passion for writing. Additionally, I want to use writing to document my journey through college and reflect on the lessons I learn along the way. This could include journaling, blogging, or writing short stories about my experiences.
Writing will also play an important role in my future career as I pursue a degree in Health Science. Effective communication is crucial in the medical field, and I want to be able to clearly express complex ideas to patients, their families, and my colleagues. Writing will allow me to communicate my thoughts in research papers, medical documentation, and even patient care instructions. I believe that being able to write well is an essential skill that will not only help me succeed in my studies but also help me connect with others in my future career.
Overall, writing is a skill I intend to cultivate throughout my time in college. It’s not just an academic tool for me; it’s a way to understand myself and the world around me while engaging with others on a deeper level. Writing is something I plan to continue as a form of expression, communication, and personal reflection.
Valerie Rabb Academic Scholarship
My name is Saniya, and I am passionate about pursuing a career in healthcare. I plan to major in Health Science on the pre-med track at California Baptist University, with aspirations to become a pediatric radiologist or OB/GYN. I am drawn to these fields because they provide a unique opportunity to have a direct, meaningful impact on children’s lives and families. My goal is to offer compassionate care to those who need it most, particularly in underserved communities. I also aim to contribute to medical research in pediatric medicine and women’s health. I believe that medicine allows me to help people during their most vulnerable times, which is a responsibility I take seriously.
Beyond clinical care, I want to mentor the next generation of students interested in healthcare, particularly those from backgrounds like mine. I hope to inspire them to pursue their dreams, overcome challenges, and give back to their communities. I believe everyone deserves encouragement to realize their potential, regardless of circumstances.
Growing up, I faced many challenges. One of the most significant was growing up in a single-parent household. My mother worked tirelessly to support me emotionally and financially, showing me the importance of perseverance, hard work, and the value of education. Watching her navigate these challenges taught me that success requires dedication, and it continues to motivate me to pursue my goals.
Although my father was present in my life, his contributions were limited. Recently, his health has become a major concern. His kidneys are failing, and he will soon need dialysis. This has added to our already tight finances, but it has also reinforced my determination to pursue a career where I can make a difference. Watching my father handle his health challenges with grace has strengthened my resolve to support others through difficult times.
In addition to family struggles, I also faced bullying growing up, which affected my self-esteem. However, this experience taught me empathy and the importance of standing up for myself and others. I realized that many people face hidden struggles, and I became committed to helping others facing similar challenges. I have volunteered with programs like Big Brother Big Sister, where I mentored younger students and helped build their confidence. I also joined the Interact Club, focusing on community service projects. These experiences reinforced my belief in the power of kindness and the importance of creating a supportive environment.
Through these personal challenges, I have learned that resilience, empathy, and determination are essential to overcoming adversity and making a positive impact. These values have driven me to pursue a career in healthcare, where I can directly influence the lives of children and families. I want to provide care for those in need, particularly in underserved areas. My goal is to use my education to treat patients while also working to improve healthcare access for all.
I also plan to continue mentoring others, encouraging young people to pursue their dreams regardless of their challenges. I want to show them that their difficulties don’t define them, and with hard work, they can achieve anything. Through healthcare and mentorship, I hope to make a lasting difference in my community and the world.
Julius Quentin Jackson Scholarship
Throughout my life, I have faced several challenges that have shaped me into the person I am today. One of the most significant challenges I faced was growing up in a single-parent household. My mother, despite the many struggles she faced, always worked tirelessly to provide for me. She carried the weight of our family, and her dedication for us taught me not only hard work, but resilience and sacrifice. While my father was present in my life, his involvement didn’t come close to the support my mother provided. Recently, my father’s health has deteriorated his kidneys are failing, and he will soon require dialysis. This has added more stress to our family, but it has also further emphasized my mother’s strength and perseverance. Watching her continue to care for us, even in the face of such hardship, has inspired me to push through my own challenges and continue working toward my goals, no matter how difficult they may seem.
Besides my family’s struggles, I also faced bullying growing up. This experience deeply affected my self confidence, but it also taught me the importance of standing up for myself and others. It pushed me to become more empathetic and understanding, as I began to recognize the impact that kindness and support can have on people who are going through tough times. These personal experiences have shaped my desire to give back to my community, particularly by supporting youth and others who may face similar difficulties.
These challenges, though painful at times, have instilled in me a sense of determination and a commitment to helping others. They have also reinforced the value of education as a way to break the cycle of hardship. I’ve learned that setbacks do not define us, but how we respond to them does.
Financially, my family has always faced significant difficulties. As the child of a single mother, we’ve had to make do with limited resources, and the financial burden has only grown with my father’s health problems. Although my mother works hard to provide for our family, it has not been enough to cover the costs of my education. College tuition, books, and other expenses feel like insurmountable obstacles at times.
This scholarship would provide crucial financial support that would allow me to focus on my studies and my goals, rather than worrying constantly about how to pay for my education. With this scholarship, I would be able to continue pursuing my degree in health science and ultimately achieve my goal of becoming a pediatric radiologist or OB/GYN. My education is not just about personal achievement it’s about making a difference in my community, serving others, and providing medical care to those in need, particularly underserved families.
This scholarship would relieve the financial pressure on my family, giving me the opportunity to fully immerse myself in my education and future career. It would bring me one step closer to achieving my dreams and allowing me to give back to my community in a meaningful way.
Sunshine Legall Scholarship
My academic and professional goals are deeply rooted in my desire to make a tangible difference in the world, particularly in the field of healthcare. As I pursue a degree in health science on the pre-med track, my primary goal is to become a pediatric radiologist or an OB/GYN. I am drawn to these fields because of the profound impact they have on the lives of children and families, and I want to use my knowledge to provide compassionate care and support during some of the most crucial moments in people’s lives. Through my studies, I hope to gain the expertise and experience necessary to contribute to the advancement of medical care, particularly for underserved communities that often face significant barriers to access.
Alongside my professional aspirations, I have also set goals to continue engaging in research. I am particularly interested in medical research related to pediatric care, aiming to contribute to new treatments or interventions that improve health outcomes for children. By combining patient care with research, I hope to make a long-lasting impact not only through direct medical work but also through innovations that improve the quality of life for future generations.
I have been committed to giving back to my community for several years, and this commitment has played a central role in shaping my academic and professional ambitions. Through my involvement in the Big Brother Big Sister Program, I have mentored younger students, guiding them as they navigate their educational journeys and helping them build self-confidence. I’ve volunteered through my school’s Interact Club, where I have participated in numerous community service initiatives, such as organizing food drives, assisting at local shelters, and supporting charitable events aimed at improving the lives of those in need. These experiences have taught me the importance of giving back, and they have deepened my understanding of how essential it is to serve others, especially those who face challenges that I have been fortunate to avoid.
My community involvement has also inspired me to look at the broader impact I can have. It has taught me that real change happens when people come together to support one another and work toward common goals. I have witnessed firsthand the difference that a small act of kindness can make, whether it’s offering a helping hand, listening to someone in need, or simply providing encouragement. These experiences have reinforced my desire to pursue a career in healthcare where I can continue to serve and support others.
Ultimately, I am driven by the belief that we all have a role to play in making the world a better place. By pursuing my academic and professional goals in healthcare, I aim to make a lasting impact on the lives of individuals and families. Whether through direct patient care, research, or community outreach, I am committed to using my skills, knowledge, and passion to give back and create positive change in the world. My experiences in my community have shown me the power of service, and I am motivated to carry that lesson with me as I continue my journey.
Matthew E. Minor Memorial Scholarship
Throughout my life, I have been shaped by both my personal experiences and my dedication to helping others. Growing up, I faced bullying that significantly impacted my self-esteem. The words and actions of others made me feel isolated, and it was challenging to navigate those feelings. However, these experiences ultimately strengthened my resolve to advocate for others who are facing similar struggles. I have always believed that compassion can be transformative, and I aim to bring that belief into my work with children and youth.
As I’ve grown, I have become more involved in my community. I participate in the Big Brother Big Sister Program, where I mentor younger students, helping them build confidence, pursue their dreams, and develop resilience in the face of adversity. I am also a member of the Interact Club, which focuses on community service projects that support those in need. These experiences have deepened my passion for service and have reinforced the idea that small actions can have a profound impact on individuals and the community as a whole.
Despite my commitment to community involvement, I am also facing financial challenges as I pursue higher education. My family has always placed a high value on education, but with limited resources, it can be difficult to fully cover the costs of tuition, books, and other college expenses. This scholarship would alleviate a significant portion of that financial burden, allowing me to focus on my studies and community work without the constant stress of financial strain.
Recently, I had to make a difficult decisions of my life, I ended a friendship that had been an important part of my life since third grade. This friend, whom I had known for many years, became someone who, instead of offering support, had turned into a bully. Despite the years of shared history, I recognized that the relationship was unhealthy and toxic, and I knew that I had to prioritize my mental and emotional well-being. It was painful to let go of someone I had once trusted, but it taught me a vital lesson about the importance of setting boundaries and surrounding myself with people who respect and uplift me.
In addition to my personal experiences, I am passionate about keeping children and youth safe, particularly from bullying, both in-person and online. I believe that it’s crucial to create an environment where young people feel secure and supported. Through mentoring, I have spoken to students about the importance of kindness, standing up for oneself, and seeking help when they need it. I have also worked with peers to create awareness programs in schools that educate students about the harmful effects of bullying and encourage positive behaviors.
Regarding cyberbullying, I emphasize the importance of digital literacy and online safety. Teaching young people about privacy settings, the dangers of oversharing, and how to report inappropriate behavior can help them navigate the online world more safely. I encourage open communication between students, teachers, and parents so that when bullying occurs, it can be addressed swiftly and effectively.
Through my experiences, both personal and community-oriented, I have learned the importance of standing up for others, promoting kindness, and ensuring that young people are given the tools they need to thrive. My college education will provide me with the knowledge and skills to continue making a meaningful impact on my community. With this scholarship, I will be able to pursue my goals of serving others, giving back, and working to create safer spaces for children and youth in our society.

My college education will give me the knowledge, skills, and resources to make a meaningful impact on my community. As I pursue a degree in health science on the pre-med track, I am committed to using what I learn to improve the well being of those around me. Through mentorship, medical outreach, and future healthcare work, I plan to give back in ways that uplift and support others.
One way I will give back is by mentoring and encouraging younger students in my community. Many students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, may feel discouraged about pursuing higher education or careers in medicine. By sharing my journey, offering guidance, and providing support, I want to help others believe in their potential. Whether through tutoring, college preparation workshops, or mentorship programs, I will use my experiences to inspire and uplift those who come after me.
I also plan to engage in medical outreach programs that provide healthcare education and services to underserved communities. Many people in my area lack access to quality healthcare and health education. During college, I hope to volunteer at health clinics, participate in community wellness events, and educate families about preventive care. Through these efforts, I want to bridge gaps in healthcare access and make a direct impact on the well-being of my community.
In the long term, my goal is to become a pediatric radiologist or an OB GYN, careers that will allow me to serve families and children in meaningful ways. I plan to return to my community as a physician who provides compassionate care to those who need it most. Beyond treating patients, I want to be involved in medical research, particularly in areas that improve healthcare outcomes for children. By staying connected to my roots and using my education for good, I hope to improve lives and contribute to the betterment of my community.
Earning a college degree is more than just a personal achievement. It is an opportunity to gain the tools I need to serve others. Through mentorship, healthcare outreach, and my future medical career, I am dedicated to giving back and making a lasting difference in the lives of those around me.

Growing up, I watched my mother work tirelessly to provide for our family. She faced many challenges, but no matter how difficult things became, she never gave up. Seeing her strength and perseverance inspired me to push forward and help others do the same. Whether through mentorship, community service, or my future career in medicine, I want to be a positive force in society both now and in the years to come.
Right now, I strive to make a difference in my community by supporting those around me. Through programs like Big Brother Big Sister and Interact Club, I have mentored younger students, volunteered at events, and found ways to give back. These experiences have taught me that being a positive influence does not always require grand gestures. Sometimes, just showing up and offering encouragement can change someone’s life. I also take my education seriously, maintaining my grades through AP courses and dual enrollment while earning Honor Roll recognition. By staying committed to my goals, I hope to inspire others to believe in their own potential.
Looking ahead, I plan to continue making an impact through my career in medicine. Becoming a pediatric radiologist or an OB GYN will allow me to help families during some of the most important moments of their lives. Beyond diagnosing illnesses, I want to provide care, comfort, and hope to those who need it most. I am also passionate about medical research, particularly in improving treatments for children. By combining patient care with research, I hope to contribute to advancements that will benefit future generations.
The expectations and values of today’s society have shaped my understanding of what it means to make a difference. We live in a world that encourages perseverance, education, and community service. At the same time, I have seen how many people struggle due to lack of resources or support. Watching my mother’s sacrifices and resilience has shown me that true impact comes from using my own strengths to help others overcome obstacles.
In addition to my future career, I want to continue serving my community in other ways. Whether through mentorship, outreach programs, or volunteering at local clinics, I believe that small actions can add up to significant change. I also recognize the importance of representation in the medical field. As a future healthcare professional, I want to inspire young people, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to pursue careers in medicine and believe in their ability to succeed.
Being a positive force in society means uplifting others, leading by example, and using my skills for good. Through mentorship, service, and my future work in medicine, I am committed to creating a lasting impact. I believe that with compassion, dedication, and perseverance, I can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

My name is Saniya, and I am a high school senior dedicated to pursuing a career in pediatric radiology. From a young age, I have been passionate about medicine and helping children. Growing up, I saw firsthand the sacrifices my mother made to provide for me, instilling in me a strong work ethic and a desire to make a difference in the lives of others. I have always been drawn to careers that involve both science and compassion, which led me to explore the medical field.
My interest in pediatric radiology stems from the critical role imaging plays in diagnosing and treating children with various conditions, including those with special needs. Many children with disabilities require ongoing medical care, and accurate, early diagnoses can greatly improve their quality of life. As a pediatric radiologist, I will work to ensure that these children receive timely and precise imaging to guide their treatment, reducing unnecessary procedures and stress for both them and their families.
Through my volunteer work, including participation in the Big Brother Big Sister program and Interact Club, I have learned the value of patience, empathy, and adaptability. Working with individuals of different backgrounds has taught me that every child learns and experiences the world in their own unique way. I have seen how small gestures—whether it be encouragement, advocacy, or simply making someone feel heard—can have a lasting impact. This has reinforced my belief that healthcare professionals should not only provide treatment but also create a supportive and inclusive environment for their patients.
Financially, my journey to medical school will be challenging. I have worked hard to maintain my grades through AP and dual enrollment courses while balancing extracurricular commitments. However, medical education is expensive, and scholarships like this one will help lighten the financial burden, allowing me to focus on my studies and career aspirations.
In the future, I hope to contribute to the field of pediatric radiology by advocating for children with disabilities and ensuring they receive the best possible care. Whether it is by improving imaging techniques for children with sensory sensitivities or by fostering a more patient-centered approach in radiology, I want to make a difference in how children with special needs experience healthcare.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship, and I appreciate your consideration. Thank you for supporting students who are passionate about serving individuals with special needs.

From a young age, I’ve felt a deep calling to help others, especially those in vulnerable situations. A significant experience that shaped this desire occurred when my mother had a stroke. During her recovery, I became her primary caregiver, assisting her with daily activities, from getting out of bed to helping her with exercises. While challenging, this experience taught me the power of compassionate care and the importance of providing support when it’s most needed. It was through this journey that I realized my passion for helping others through the medical field, specifically pediatrics. I discovered that medicine is not just about treating illnesses but also about supporting and empowering individuals and families during their most difficult times.
As I move forward with my education and career, my goal is to become a pediatrician, providing healthcare to children in underserved communities who often lack access to essential medical services. I know firsthand how difficult it can be to navigate healthcare systems when you’re in need, and I want to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to receive quality care. By working in pediatrics, I hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children, not just through medical care but by advocating for policies that improve healthcare access and health outcomes for underserved populations.
In addition to my career goals, I’m passionate about making a positive impact through community service. My experiences volunteering with organizations such as the Interact Club have allowed me to connect with people in need and develop a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by others. These hands-on experiences have shown me how crucial it is to be actively involved in your community, whether it’s organizing food drives, helping at homeless shelters, or providing support for at-risk youth. I’ve learned that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact and that creating positive change requires collective action.
I also believe in the importance of mentorship and empowering others to follow their passions. As I continue my journey toward becoming a pediatrician, I hope to inspire future generations of healthcare professionals by mentoring students interested in pursuing careers in medicine. By sharing my story and experiences, I hope to encourage others to consider healthcare as a way to make a lasting difference in their communities.
Ultimately, my goal is to use my education and future career as a pediatrician to advocate for health equity, ensuring that children from all backgrounds have the opportunity to lead healthy, fulfilling lives. I will strive to provide the highest level of care and work tirelessly to raise awareness about the challenges facing underserved populations. Whether through direct patient care, community service, or mentorship, I am committed to making a positive impact on the world.
