My name is Samuel Olajide Arowolo . I was born on September and 19th, 2005. Born into a family of 6, I have two elder sisters and a younger brother than my parents. I grew up in Nigeria and I had my basic education there. My parents being a lover of success and education deemed it fit for me to study my higher education in the United States. Although they had limited resources given that my father, a dedicated teacher (civil servant), and my mother a hardworking entrepreneur they still strived to make sure I school in the United States.
After finishing college here in Nigeria at that time I was 17. Development started going on, on how to get the necessary documents and papers to travel to the United States. During this process, I started looking for schools I would like to enroll in and I stumbled on South Dakota State University, a prestigious school in the Upper Middle of the United States. I was also glad to know the school is also open to International students without further ado I started the necessary documentation.
Exactly August, everything was ready and I could travel to the United States to pursue my dream course ( Graphics Design) at South Dakota State University. At first, it wasn't an easy one for me having to leave those who have been familiar with me all my life but my determination my quest for knowledge, and my family's words of encouragement motivated me to focus solely on my goals.
You will be wondering why the United States? why South Dakota? I was inspired to school here because I knew I had to experience life in a different culture, and had to increase my confidence. I knew it would be a platform for me to see the world, for my academic excellence and personal development. Have also heard about the quality of education and innovative technologies I would come across here and it steered me and I became keen on pursuing my dreams.
My journey was not a smooth one. It was not without its challenges. I was faced with challenges ranging from financial strain, being homesick, feeling confused, making friends, navigating an unfamiliar environment and a different culture, and academic pressure among others. Keeping in touch with my family and friends back home through the Internet, making friends, cutting down unnecessary expenses, and studying ahead of class helped me in overcoming those challenges.
Through those experiences, I learned how to adapt to situations, how to become tolerant, I learned the importance of family support, and that one can't live in isolation. The sacrifices my parents made taught me to make the most of any opportunity that comes my way. I also learned to never stop learning and be open to life-changing opportunities. God and my parents are my biggest inspirations. My passion for graphic design and personal quest for success keeps me going also. I plan on using all the skills I will gather at this great citadel of learning to create innovative designs that inspire and make a positive impact. I also hope to support my family and community and inspire others to pursue their dreams.
